| I used the thing for the first time in early May of 2009 in the Salt River Range in Wyoming. Springtime was just getting underway. The tent stood up to rain, sharp microbursts of wind, sleet, and snow - all in less than 24 hours. The vestibule even hung in there. I slept on a cot with two Labrador Retrievers on their pads underneath. Now, I've been pitching tents for over 50 years, everything from war surplus shelter halves, to various Alp Sport, Kelty, North Face, and Sierra Design tents I've personally owned (and still do). This unit was easily the most complex to pitch, but it went up with logic and grace - and I was setting it up alone. But the the constant "slip this pole in here," "clip this there," "wrap this," "roll this," etc., almost had me laughing. 'Twas an interesting puzzle (I never looked at the instructions). But then I work crosswords with a fountain pen ... If your idea of pitching a tent is two three minutes of slipping and clipping two or three poles, this may not be the tent for you. However, the architecture of this tent really works to provide maximum interior space and security from the weather. I'm a very active Boy Scouts of America leader with a need for a comfortable tent for many camping nights a year helping young people recover from nature deficit disorder. This one will do fine when we're not backpacking. | |

| As an avid camper I have used many a tent. This one is about as good as it gets. First, I love the use of space. No awkward angles or unusable corners. There are also pockets in every corner and plenty of them to store your essentials for easy access. Second, quality construction. After five outings there are no signs of wear. Poles, zippers, clasps all continue to work perfectly. Third, one handed unzipping of the door. That is a big one. Fourth, excellent during inclimate weather. Heavy winds and rain are not an issue for this tent. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because it takes two people to put it up. It is a four person tent so finding another person to help you is probably not a problem. But, hey, it can't be perfect. | |

| This tent has plenty room for 2-3, 4 people can be a little cramped. The height all the way around the inside of the tent is what I like most. A couple people that are 6' tall can stand in here at the same time. The only thing I do not like about it is the difficulty of setup. I think it is because of the shape of the tent to make it tall in the entire inside. It is just hard to set up the first few times you use it. I have had my tent for over a couple years. It is now easy for me to set up and the tent itself is holding up very well. | |

| This tent is great. I am 6ft tall and I have no problem standing in this tent with a queen size double high air mattress in it. However, my only issue with the tent is the rainfly. It connects over the door and window via velcro. Personally I don't like the design of the velcro strap but it still does the job. I am just curious to see how long the velcro will last until it no longer does its job. | |

| We have had this tent in a variety of warm to hot southern campsites, and the ventilation is excellent. On the beach at Padre Island, the constant wind required lashing the upper poles to a Suburban, but if you can adjust to the high wind profile, then the stand-up comfort, ventilation, and spaciousness of this tent will have you camping more often! | |

| I had the older model and it worked great I loved it in the summer due to the open fly design. It performed very well. I decided to replace it because a pole was damaged. The new model is not very well suited for hotter climates and the ventilation is not very good. It is a shame this product went from good to bad... It is time to replace this one due to lack of performance... | |

| It would not have been so bad had we been camping only in warmer climes, but the mesh is too open at the bottom. While this benefits those camping in the humid south, forget nights in the Intermountain West. Also, the fly was too finicky, and finally started ripping from the seam. Like all REI tents,[...], so forget trying to feel good about stimulating the economy by buying American. | |

| I just pitched our new Hobitat 4 in the back yard. Set-up was not nearly as difficult as described in prior reviews - perhaps I was lucky the first time through. It took me 15 minutes, without help, to complete the project - without instructions! The wife loves the spaciousness for car camping. The well-designed carry bag is neat -the shoulder straps accommodate moving a little further from the car! The only major disappointment is with the fly. It does not provide full coverage on the back of the tent (photos on website do not show this view). It forms only a small awning, similar to the front side without the vestibule. Any blowing rain at all, and you're wet! On a positive note, the fly design will benefit ventilation when no precipitation is encountered. All in all, a nice, affordable, fair-weather, family car-camping tent. | |

Great Head Room but zipper makes me nuts | |

| This tent has great head room and all the space is usable, not like other tents with sharp corners. It fared great during a rainstorm, and the four windows/doors made it extremely airy and easy to see the stars. On the downside, one of the corner pockets ripped on the first use. Also, the zipper requires two hands (one to ground the tent), which is tricky when your hands are full (which mine always are!). We held two adults, a full size dog, alot of gear, and still had plenty of room. Finally, two poles bent on the set up and need to be replaced. | |
