What a great find!

Rating:****
These used to be found in every gas station & convenience store in the country - and I've looked for some for years. Imagine my surprise to see 'em on the shelf at REI Portland and REI Eugene - I thought Aladdin had stopped making them.Super mug for indoors or out, hot or cold. The handle clips easily onto just about anything with a cheap aluminum 'biner, it washes well (though you will get a vaguely coffee-colored interior), keeps hot stuff hot & cold stuff cool, makes a great soup or dessert bowl (or both). I use artificial sinew to tie the lid to the handle, although just about anything from dental floss to a cable-tie will do.The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that it WILL melt if you use it to cook over a fire.I like these better than any [$] substitute.

Twenty years of campfire coffee

Purchased my first mug back in the mid 80's and it has stood the test of time. Keeps hot liquids hot and doubles as soup bowl, wine glass, etc. I typically attach the snap-on-top to the handle with some parachute cord and store top when in use by sandwiching it between the handle and body of the mug. These tops use to fit within the handle this way but the specs/plastic may have changed as the handle on my latest mug broke when used this way. Could have been operator error.Suffice it to say, this mug is one of the most useful items in my backpack. While light, a thermal mug may still seem like an extravagance to die-hards, but with all the use it gets, I never hit the trail without it. At about [$] bucks it's a bargain too.Enjoy!

Good Bang for the Buck

Rating:****
All around good mug.

-16 oz would be better.

-Have had several over the years and only 1 broke after falling from top of moving vehicle onto parking lot (my fault).

-Measuring marks on outside of an opaque cup are not ideal, but you can still guestimate pretty closely on the amounts anyway.

-Handle extends from top to bottom so it won't fit in a cupholder unless there is slot for a handle.

-REI used to sell the lid for $1.00 but they evidently don't anymore so you have to buy a whole new cup now if you lose the lid or it melts on the dishwasher heating element after falling through the rack (yes, my fault again).

Best mug ever in history

Rating:*****
This is the only mug that I have in my kitchen. I have seven, one for every morning of the week. I've used them everywhere, from at home and at school to sea kayaking and mountaineering in chile and oregon. These mugs keep warm drinks warm for a very long time and they're awesome looking and they dont retain flavors as far as I can tell. Over mardi gras I had rum and whiskey in mine for a day and a half and then the morning after swished some soap and water in it and filled it with coffee and couldn't taste any of the hair of the dog.
THE ONLY MUG I WILL EVER USE. I LOVE IT.

Buy a dozen

Rating:****
It is rare to see me without one of these in my hand....home, work, car, kid activities, grocery store, etc. Light, durable, and they keep the coffee pretty hot. I also don't cry too much when I lose one (which happens too often so I usually buy 6 at a time). The measurement marks are pretty much useless, but it reminds you its a 12oz cup. The handle does present problems with some cupholders. Surprisingly few problems with leaks between the cup and lid (One lid melted/warped a little and I had to pitch it).
Wish they had a 16oz. and preferred the old gray mug with green lid and markings, but still love this mug.

the bodhisattva mug

Rating:*****
I've used this mug, and it's cousins, for about fifteen years. Combined with a modified GSI moka pot, we have come to realize it is a Bodhisattva. A mug so perfect, it has stayed on earth to help the rest of us realize satori. I've used it on surf safaris, backpacking, road trips and at work. Simple and light, this mug is great.

get for the money

Rating:****
On me way to a camping trip with my boy scout troop and forgot my coffee cup, usually take a [$] Bass Pro Shop mug for coffee. Stopped @ REI in Round Rock,Tx and found this one. Smaller then the one I'm use to, but have no problems with that. Planning on buying more next time I get back to a REI.

Whats not to like?

Rating:*****
I don't know what to say! This mug works great and doesn't cost lots of $$. This is a classic. I lost the lid, but it isn't really neccesesary. I cut the handle off because it took up a lot of space.

Loved the mug, but then...

This mug is advertised on the site as BPA free, yet it is plastic #7, which is on the avoid list. It really is a perfect mug, I just wonder if it really is BPA free.

The actual manufacturer's site doesn't say a word about it. (Thermoserv)

Picked it up on a whim, and am pretty happy about it. Its mainly used in the office to keep my oatmeal warm, and it does its job perfectly.
