Buy this jacket!!
My boyfriend bought a lightweight Mountain Hardwear Primaloft jacket (We both love it!) I "borrowed" it everytime we went camping/hiking; had to get my own! I read all the reviews and loved the colorful Patagonias but...this one has a removable hood and-yes-hoods are goofy but not when the wind and rain pick up and you can take it off!...the sleeves are removable: I wore the vest over a tech shirt for a rainy, chilly MTB ride in Moab...they stash in the pocket, inside lower back AND the whole jacket fits in there as well; AND there are soft fleece cuffs sewn inside the sleeves. I've already worn it hiking, biking, camping; next to the fire when it gets chilly. Super light and fits perfect; I'm tall and thin-got a medium. The black has a steel grey lining and looks great. This jacket has so many good extra features-and-yes-it kept me warm!

Excellent, Warm, Comfortable
I bought this jacket specifically to take to Berlin, when I knew it would be cold, rainy and snowing. This is the perfect jacket with which to travel - it is compact and rolls up nicely. The ability to remove the sleeves definitely counters the lack of breathability, so no real issues for me there. It's nice to be able to remove the hood as well if need be. The toggles helped me adjust the hood to stay on in the wind since I have a small head. I love all of the pockets and how deep they are, and I felt safe having the zippers on them.
This is the perfect, casual, comfortable, cold/wet/snowy weather jacket :)

Kept me warm at 5100 meters
I purchased this jacket in advance of a trip to the Atacama desert. Our target destinations included a number of sites above 4400 meters (roughly 14,000 ft) known to be both cold and windy. The sites did not disappoint (they were indeed cold and windy), but the Nevis jacket provided more than ample protection. Moreover, the ability to disassemble the jacket (hood; sleeves) enabled me to pack the jacket in my carry on luggage (I firmly believe that there are 2 kinds of luggage: carry on and lost!). The only negative I might mention is the length of the sleeves: too long for my unusually short arms. However, a simple rollup of a few inches solved the 'problem'.

So versatile!
I initially planned on wearing the Nevis as a midlayer with my REI Centre Peak jacket for skiing and especially cold days, but I can see it becoming my go-to dry-weather winter coat. It's light, snuggly warm, and fits perfectly over a t-shirt and sweater without feeling bulky or baggy. Because it's not down, I don't feel like I have to worry about getting it wet if the weather turns while I'm out. I also love that the hood fits over my ski helmet, and that I can zip off (and stow!) the sleeves if I start getting too warm but still need a little heat around my core.

Great all-purpose jacket
I had originally purchased a down "sweater" from Merril and was really disappointed in the quality, warmth and fit. I returned it and spent a bit more on this jacket and couldn't be more pleased. Not only is this jacket warmer, better-made and a better fit, but it has many more uses... waterproof, vest option and hood option. I am very pleased with this jacket. Superlative purchase! Thanks, REI! This versatile jacket looks great and feels great... highly recommended for uses from casual wear on cold days to hiking/camping excursions.

Love it!
Because of the ability to remove the sleeves I bought this jacket for hiking, but I like it so much I am wearing it everywhere. I really like its versatility--I've had the sleeves off and I've used the hood. Yes, the sleeves are a bit long but I like it that way. I can pull my hands up into the sleeves for warmth if I need it and when my arms are stretched out the length is perfect.

more flattering than most down jackets
Great fit- and love the versatility in removing the sleeves to make a vest, or the hood. Also, it packs down into a pouch for easy travel!
Slimming fit, even through the arms- much more flattering on me than the Marmot Venus or the Patagonia down jacket :)
I wish it was made out of down, but the polyfill insulation will dry quicker and will probably be more practical.

A Jacket That Transforms!
I spent a long time on a search for the perfect synthetic jacket that would fit my petite 5'0" frame. Not only do I love the vibrant blue, I love how I can choose to wear Nevis as a jacket or vest and wear it hooded or hoodless. While on a hike, my friend was wow-ed by how the jacket transforms! It is surprisingly warm... even if it gets wet!

Great jacket
I will be going to California in spring and the weather will be warm one minute and cold the next. I need something that could be a jacket one minute and a vest next. This jacket made it so I will not have to carry more items plus it is very comfortable and warm.

love the dual use
I have only had this jacket for a little while and haven't used it in winter weather, but I SO dig the vest part for fall weather. It is NOT bulky at all. I am anxious to see how warm it gets for winter.
