Rei Peak UL Trekking Poles - Pair

Hiking & Camping > Trekking PolesRated: ***** by 1 review.

REI

The REI Peak UL women's poles are some of the lightest, strongest trekking poles out there! They're made for minimalist backpackers and adventure racers.

  • Upper and middle sections are small-diameter carbon fiber, creating ultralight poles that damp vibration and retain strength over a wide temperature range
  • Titanal aluminum lower section adds durability; Titanal aluminum is one of the strongest aluminum alloys around and offers mechanical properties comparable to steel
  • With the new Stop Lock system, poles won't come apart; system makes the pole sections into 1 unit for security and stability
  • DuoLockâ„¢ extra-strong internal locking mechanisms apply a wide area of pressure against pole walls to lock in length adjustment
  • Reliable DuoLocks enhance stability and make length adjustments easy
  • 3-section telescoping poles extend to a maximum length of 49 in. and compact to 23 in. for easy storage and transport
  • Ergonomic and contoured women's ultralight EVA foam grips have a smaller and shorter grip than the men's version; adjustable padded neoprene wrist straps provide comfort
  • Fitted with trekking discs and extra-durable tungsten carbide tips; included tip protectors are strictly for travel/packing protection, not intended for hiking

Duo Locks

Rating:*****
I wanted to comment about Duo Locks. I love my Duo Lock poles, but they are tricky to use---trickier than I think they should be for the amount of instructions included with them. They will consistently lock every time if you first extend the sections all the way out to the stopping point. Then in the extended position twist the top section till you just feel a bit of drag. Stop there and twist the bottom section till you feel a bit of drag. Untwist as little as you can and move the bottom section to the position you want, then twist it till it's tight. Then do the same with the top section. When you stop for a breather give each pole a quick twist to be sure they are still snug. If you forget and one gives out it doesn't give out suddenly, sending you on your face. It slides together slowly when you put weight on it. Check them before you start downhill. Usually if they loosen it's because the baskets are brushing the walking surface, like when on snow. Otherwise they tend to stay tight for a long time. Wish they were easier, but I wouldn't trade them either. They are keepers! I was also told to wipe them with my bandana before putting them away and I think that is good advice. Don't pass on quality light weight poles because of the locks. Light weight is great!
