The only pants you need

Rating:*****
For the past 4 years (?) these are basically the only pants I buy. I have about 10 pairs in black, beige, bark, and I will buy the new brown available now at REI.

These pants fit beautifully. Though I think they look best on women who have a waist and a round derriere rather than a flat one. The stitching on the side is very flattering to this type of figure.

I wear these pants every single day for all my activities: pottery (the clay dust does not stick on the material), hiking, biking, going out with a casual or more dressy top.

They are ideal in hot and cold weather - I wore them in super hot super humid Costa Rica and even swam in them while my fellow hikers stripped to their underwear. They kept me cool after the dip and dried on me even with the high humidity. In the winter (in California or going to Europe) and sometimes in the evenings I wear long johns (from REi) underneath and voila - instant coziness.

They are of course perfect for traveling - no wrinkling, comfort making waist (wide setting in plane) and those useful ankle closures that prevent your pants from skimming the floor in airplane toilets.

They look good even after numerous wash but they will look even better if they are washed inside out at 30 degree and folded over a clothe hanger to dry (so that they do not stretch.).

Notice that there is a Regular and a Tall size.

These pants are the answer to smart packing, and to stress free dressing with style.

I hope they never stop making them.

Great travel pants! Just wore these on a trip to the California coast. They were very comfortable and versatile. Anything that I got on them from dirt to food to sunscreen wiped right off with a baby wipe or wet wash cloth. I was in the sun a lot and never once got sunburned while wearing these pants. I got the black ones and was able to wear them hiking, sailing and then out to a nice dinner and felt I still looked presentable. They do run true to size. I'm 5' 2" / 105 pounds and I have both the size 4 which looks best on me but the size 6 is more comfy. I choose the size 6 most often. The adjustable waist buttons are great to change the waist size. The pants were too long for me, but worth the effort to hem. I'm going to Italy for 25 days soon and only plan on taking 2 pairs of pants. These pants have just earned a place in my small suitcase. Highly recommended!

May be the best I've found so far

I've bought two pairs (black and the chicory) for an upcoming trip. Both are size 14 with regular inseam but they do fit slightly differently; the black seems somewhat larger overall while the chicory is more true to size. The 14 black also seems to have an inseam that is a tad longer than the chicory. Both are clearly & consistently labelled as Size 14 so I don't know what happened. I like the general appearance & fabric, though, so I'll keep both and see how they perform on this 3-week trip.

Also, thank you Royal Robbins: With this item I have once again found pants for the woman who is NOT interested in wearing belly pants. They are great and a godsend to someone who has been very, very frustrated with the vast majority of labels when it comes to women's pants. Not all of us want to look like 17-year-olds.

My Only Pants!

Rating:*****
I wear these pants every day all year round--wish there were more colors. I used to wear the convertible-various brands-but I've switched. I camp in the winter and wear long underwear underneath them. Having a yellow and black lab, the "teflon" quality allows me to play with them without being covered in hair. Perfect for travel and camping. They are comfortable, neat, and they don't wrinkle. I've washed them by hand at camp site and they dry quickly. MORE COLORS please! I hate to shop so it's great to order from the web and know I'm getting a quality product--but then, I've never experienced otherwise from REI in a store or on their site!

Royal Robbins Cardiff Stretch Travel Pants - I am a world traveler that likes to be stylish, comfortable and carry few clothes. I find these to be the perfect pants. Dress them up, dress them down, the looks are numerous. They are very easy to hand wash and dry overnight, Also I find the fit to be the best I've found. I have two pair in black and two in khaki, but one of each takes care of the pants situation on any trip. The extras are for when the others start to wear or look less crisp. Can you tell I love them!

Not just travel pants - These pants ended my search for a nice fitting pair of neat khakis. In fact, they fit like a dream, even down to the length. I'm 5'5" and size 4, so if you are tall, they may be too short. My thighs are not as slim as I'd like and these pants fit well without pulling. They stretch a little as you wear them, so a snug fit works well. The cut is very conservative, but adaptable. I like these pants so well that I am considering buying another color.

VERY Nice!! Love these pants! Got them for a trip to Alaska coming up soon. Expect to wear them sea-kayaking among other things. Comfy w/flattering fit. The only complaint I have is that they are too long for my 5' frame. I'll have to shorten them before we go, which means the little button on the bottom - such a neat feature will be inside the hem, so no use to me. Got the khaki - which I love! May get the black, too, but if brown or moss green were available, I'd choose those.

As comfortable as lounge pants! I bought two pairs of these (one in black and one in khaki) for a recent trip to Europe. They looked great with multiple wearings, and did not wrinkle at all. The pockets are numerous and the zippers make the pockets very secure. The inseam is about a 31 1/2 on the size 8. The waistline hits an inch below the navel on me and I would have liked the rise to be just a tad lower, but overall the pants are very comfortable and extremely lightweight.

I love these pants. They are comfortable, functional (so many pockets), very easy care, and flattering to my (middle-age) body. They are very versatile, and can be dressed up or worn casually. I wear them almost daily for work with a nice top and flats. I can stuff the pockets with phone, pocket camera, whatever, and be hands-free. I own a pair in all 3 colors and would purchase more colors if they had them. And one more thing, I am never too hot or too cold in them.

Wonderful!!!

I bought these pants for hiking when I wanted to look a little better than being in remote areas and found they looked so good I used them on seveal long flights and found them to be VERY comfortable and still looking good at the end of the trip. They are now known as my airplane pants. I have recommended them to friends and they have been equally impressed. Cool, comfotable, dry quickly great casual travel pants.

Maybe if I was older... I am in my upper 20s, and I found these pants to be severely unflattering. They almost had a tapered leg, and were poofy in the thigh/butt area, with a very high waist. They also bunched in the crotch area. Maybe this is the fit others are looking for, but it made me feel much older than I am. These are going straight back to Zappos!

Not 'Columbia' good - but serviceable - I'm a huge fan of high-tech fabrics and sport styling; these pants are OK although not great. They look and feel a little too 'polyester' compared to others than I have known and loved (but, alas, were discontinued). The fit is very good, but the fabric lacks the soft feel and mega-stretch I have seen elsewhere. Also, the seam stitching is a bit too large and not sewn-down so it makes the product appear cheaper than the actual price indicates. I kept the pants out of desperate need, but really would prefer something better. Columbia, are you listening?!?!

Fit not for me

Rating:***
I had hoped to use these pants while on a month long trip in Europe, as well as at home. But the fit was not for me - too snug at the waist, too short of a rise, and a little too short for my legs. They fit but I looked stuffed, not sleek. Wish they would have worked as the fabric is great and would have been terrific for travel. Workmanship was nice.

comfy but not the most attractive

I like the fit the fabric was a little different I didn't care for the sheen it had. So I sent them back.
