great skirt for many occasions

I bought two of these skirts in black and chocolate brown for a trip to Italy last summer. I wore them constantly. I don't wear shorts, but wanted something comfortable but not too "touristy" and sloppy, and versatile for any formal situation, and easy to pack/clean. This skirt fit the bill and I am now considering a third one in another color. I had to go down at least one size from usual, so I think the waist-less design, while very flattering and accommodating for large meals/bloat, etc., (the waist "floats" and falls a bit below the navel) does run a bit large, so order with that in mind. I think the fabric gets a tiny bit stretched while wearing, so the skirt sits slightly lower on hips at the end of the day, esp if you've filled the pockets with weighty items.

L-o-v-e the 3 different pocket styles! One for slim cards, a folded tissue, paper money bills, c/c; one near the hem securely hides things like your passport, and one expands for keys, etc.; all are secure with zips and/or fasteners. Like another commenter said, almost possible to go empty handed if all you need is a bit of folding money, a c/c or card key, a tissue, a regular key or two, and perhaps even a slim cell phone.

Great skirt cut! Floats on the upper hips without being too tight or loose (very slimming) without bumps and bulges showing, and the stylish flare at the bottom hem allows for larger strides with light hiking, steps, getting in and out of taxis and busses. Suitable style for younger women as well as older (I'm 47). The hem hit at the bottom of the knee on me, so a good compromise between short and longer.

Packs very flat and compactly without much wrinkling (hang up and any wrinkles will fall out overnight). Super light fabric is easy to wash and hang to dry, and is comfortable in warm weather. I didn't even wear a slip; they wern't see-thru. In hot humid weather, boy-cut or thin "cycling" underpants are more comfortable to avoid thigh rubbing/chafing. Would look nice with tights in cooler climates, but the synthetic fabric might create static cling issues (I've noticed that as a problem with other synthetic fabric travel clothes).

Even thought I bought these skirts for travel, I wear them frequently around town at home with a women's cut t-shirt or casual blouse and flat or low wedge sandals, even "bike sport" style casual shoes. Looks nice without being too dressed up or too casual. I get LOTS of compliments on these skirts or my appearance every time I wear them. Wish the skirt came in more color options, I'd buy one to coordinate with more tops, though the basic options do suffice for travel.

Love this skirt!!

I dont know where to start with this review! First out let me say I don't usually bother to submit reviews but just had to for this one. I'm also not normally a skirt wearer, until now that is.

Recently I was going on a brief trip for work and wanted some shorts for hiking and casual traveling. I have a difficult time finding suitable shorts at the best of times and this time was no different. So when a friend suggested I try this this skirt instead I was not completely convinced. But I was getting desperate and purchases one in the Desert.

My first impressions suprisingly were that I liked it and looked really good on me. However, in use it was even better. What I especially liked about it was that was as comfortable and practical as any shorts I have EVER owned on the hiking trail, maybe even more so. But it was also so practical for sitting on a longer bus/train journeys and with some smarter shoes and hose looked great for going out in evenings too.

The length is perfect for me when hiking, sitting just on the knee so its not too long to get in the way and the fabric hangs in nice practical but still very feminine way. The pockets are a plus too. I like it so much that I've just purchased another one this time in the charcoal so plan wearing it around town as well.

Great skirt, sizing seems fine to me

I think this skirt is great, but am a bit confused by all of the sizing issues commenters are having. I am 5'10", 148lbs, size 6 or small in pants, 28 in premium denim, and a size 6 in this skirt fits me just about fine, although I secretly wish they had a size "5", in between a 4 and a 6. I'm not curvy, but if I go down to a 4 I do not like how the body of the skirt slightly narrows in more, giving it a mermaidish appearance. The size 6 allows for freedom of movement in the skirt, nicely flowy and free on me, and yes the top hits around my hips, but I think that is how it must be designed. The waist band is just a wide waist band. Period. If you try to get the waist band to fit your waist, then you size down and end up looking like a mermaid on the bottom. Most of my other hiking/outdoorsy skirts hit at the hipbones too. I think that's just how they are designed...for free movement after all, not a day at the office. :)

The one thing I am not crazy about that in *any* size the bottom join of the back zipper puckers out a bit. bummer. But I'll keep it anyway because it's such a GREAT skirt.

best skirt ever, but stretches out a bit

I work in this skirt. I own three of them. I bought them at the store and at 5'7" and 165 athletic lbs I wear a size 6 or 8. Very surprised on that.
I own and run a dog walking company and walk 18 or so dogs a day in all weather. I have been caught in down pours, drenched with sweat, and covered in dog hair, and this skirt comes through making me look cool, clean, professional, and collected. Dirt just about falls off this skirt. I work for wealthy professionals, and I need to feel stylish and confident when I work.
It has kept me from heat exhaustion. This year we had close to 70 consecutive days over 90 degrees, with typical mid-atlantic humidity of 60-90 percent. I couldn't bear to put on anything else. I have never had anything so comfortable and stylish.
Because of all of the above, when I finally got a few long weekends I took one of these with me first to Dolly Sods Wilderness in WV (USA), and then to Assateague VA for long weekend backpacking trips. If there are any women out there who have not hiked in hot weather, in a skirt, let me tell you, it is the way to go. You all really need to give this skirt a try.

My favorite skirt.

I have not one complaint about this skirt. Well, maybe more colors so I can have a whole assortment of them!

I wear this skirt ALL the time. I love the pockets! I get compliments every time I wear it. It is so comfortable and easy to care for. It washes like a rag, does not wrinkle, and dries in no time. I wear it out and about, on small hikes, over my bathing suit... pretty much whenever I am not at work.

I even wore this skirt to a concert. The zippered pocket on the upper right was great for my money/id. The cargo pocket on the left side is great for a cell phone. The cargo pocket on the right side is a little hard to get into, so I dont use that one all the time unless I really dont want something to get lost.

The zipper that holds the skirt on is good quality and does not snag when you are zipping it up. I have no problems with the skirt riding up or falling off when I am wearing it. The fit is perfect and the length is just right. I am a taller woman though, I am not sure how it would fit on a petite woman.

Seriously fun skirt, sizes run large

This is a figure-flattering, multi-season, easy-care skirt that can be worn to work, school, while running errands, and even for an evening out. The construction is solid, with lots of attention to details on seams, snaps, and zippers. The pockets are cute, yet practical. Actually, I could say that about the entire skirt.

Believe the reviews about this skirt running large! I am 5'2" and usually wear a size 8. I was able to try this skirt on in the store, and the size 6 was way too big for my waist. I was worried about going down to a size 4 because I have an hourglass figure - relatively small waist and big everything else - but I'm happy to say that the size 4 fits perfectly and is actually still a little too big in the waist. (An adjustable waist would make this the perfect skirt!)

I like that this skirt doesn't seem long, even though I am short, yet is still modest when I sit down. (It falls at mid-knee when I stand and just above the knee when I sit.) I only wish it had an adjustable waist and came in more colors because I will definitely be getting this skirt in other colors.

I recently purchased this skirt in black and just purchased another one in desert. The skirt has a very flattering cut and is extremely comfortable to wear. It does fit slightly below the waist and at 5'4" it hit me right below the knees which is perfect. I was between a size 12 and a 14, but decided on the 14 because I plan on using these skirts to travel and I would be using the pockets to store a few things and I didn't want the skirt to be tight once the pockets were filled. I am a size 14 normally and the skirt is a little loose at the waist, but I wear my shirts out so it isn't a problem. I am wearing the skirt as I write this review and I wore it yesterday, and it just required a spritz of wrinkle release spray and a good shake and it was good to go! Oh, and I even got a compliment from my husband...I love this skirt. I do think this skirt will take the place of capris for the summer. I'm too old to wear shorts and the skirt is cooler than pants. So glad that Zappos carries it in several great colors.

The Perfect Skirt

I LOVE this skirt. I have it in khaki (last season), and just ordered two more colors. I took it to Tanzania with me for a month of teaching, and it withstood stuffing it in a pack, hand-washing, ironing (to kill possible bugs, not bc I'm fussy), days of copious sweating, walking/hiking, dozens of kids pulling on it, etc. It goes just below my knee (I'm only 5'2) so it was also a respectful length for their more conservative culture. Now that I'm back, I can't wait for summer so I can wear it again. I also love the pockets. You can stash your ID, some money, and a key in the pockets and you won't feel them nor will they create unsightly bulges. In short, I think this is the perfect skirt for just about any occasion. I feel so cute and comfortable in it, I'd wearing it out at night as well. I honestly can't think of a single flaw with this skirt. I am thrilled they released it again this season in more colors.

This skirt is my boyfriend.

I bought my first Discovery skirt last year and bought two more because it quickly became my favorite item of clothing. It is comfortable, and super flattering. The three pockets are PERFECT for city walking. I can put my cell phone in the zippered pocket and it stays put-also doesn't look bulky which I appreciate. I rarely use a purse anymore because the skirt stores my keys, phone, money, sunblock and lip balm. The fabric dries quickly, so save yourself the energy of drying it. If you live in a hot dry climate like I do, it will dry in 15 minutes.

I am a short 'curvy' person but I think it would look great on any body type. My black/dark gray skirt is the first thing I grab when it is clean. I have worn it easily 100 times in the past year and it still looks new. I have experienced no pilling, no stray threads, no problems with the zippers.

Also-this skirt runs big so keep that in mind.

Love at first sight!

I fell in love with this skirt the second I tried it on in the dressing room. I have a rule about not buying the same item in different colors, but I broke it for this skirt. I wear it everywhere and get compliments every time, even from my evil nemesis ;). The skirt is perfect for hanging out around the campfire after a day on the water, or for running around town; anywhere you want to look fabulous and be comfortable at the same time. The length is perfect (I'm 5'10"); I was able to wear it in Arizona for Spring Training and sit out on the grass without flashing anyone! I love the pockets. They fit my phone, keys, lip balm, $$, and my id so I am set for the day or night without carrying around a purse. It does run a little big, I bought a size smaller than usual, but the bottom line is you need to buy this skirt now!!

Negative Reviews:

Great skirt but could use improvements

This is a great travel skirt (folds up small & doesn't wrinkle) but the waist runs big. I got a size 2 & the waist fits on my hips. I can remove it without unzipping it all the way. The fit could be improved if it had an elastic button adjustment option at the waist, allowing for changes in waist sizes. Otherwise, it's a great skirt. Looks fine for work travel & being on airplanes for long time. The length is good & not too short for travel to countries where modesty is important, but you can also hike in it. The pockets are great for keeping essentials close at hand, like money, sun block & lip balm. Just order a size down, but size 2 is the smallest size.

A little too big

I was disappointed in the fit - I am 5'4", 115 lbs, and the size 2 was too big - I'm going to keep it, but it sags to my hips, making it too long to be perfect - I was surprised at how big the size 2 was -
