Salomon created the SpeedCross 3 Trail Running Shoe for women who can't stand to run on the pavement when they race on foot. Comprised of lightweight uppers and a flexible midsole and outsole, this shoe offers ample protection from hazards on the trail and an aggressive design that helps you move fast. Slide your foot inside and you'll immediately fall in love with the contoured and supportive fit, and just a single pull of the QuickLace tab tightens the laces and locks your foot in place. Running on the trail means that you're bound to encounter some sloppiness, so Salomon gave this shoe water-resistant textile, a mud guard, and large, traction-happy lugs.
Salomon divides its running shoes into a number of different collections: the XS for speed in all conditions, the XR for performance training, and the XT for all-terrain running. This shoe, the SpeedCross 3, belongs to the XS collection, which makes it ideal for blazing through tough terrain from late spring to early fall. Runners who want even more weather protection than this shoe offers might prefer the Speedcross 3 CS, which comes with a waterproof breathable membrane in the forefoot to keep your foot dry when you're faced with rain, mud, and the like.
The iconic Salomon Speedcross 3 Women’s running shoe delivers lightweight support and traction for trail racing and mountain running. A heavily lugged outsole and ultra-durable construction equip the shoe for demanding terrain.
The Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running Shoes - are an updated version of the iconic, light weight, agressive profile, trail racing shoe. This shoe weighs in at a low 9.91 oz (7US).

After trying these on in the store, I was sold. The fit is superbe. The heel cup is narrow enough to hug my heels and ankle. Unlike my other running/hiking shoes which I can move my ankles around which allows small rocks to get in, these salomons really seal off the ankle area. The toe box is just big enough that i can wiggle my toes but not cut off circulation.
On the trails, they are so nimble and the outsole is so sticky that they gave me the confidence to go fast. They have a small footprint so i can land my feet in narrow spaces between rocks. I can make fast turns in them which really helps running on technical downhill trails. On uphill these are just as nice due to the light weight. The lugs are perfectly spaced to keep traction in mud but not collect it on the bottom. I haven't tried these in snow but expect them to be excellent - the outsole says "M+S" on it, presumably means mud and snow :-)
Even though these are supposed to be racing shoes, the ride is cushy enough on trails. I can't really tell them apart from my Brooks Cascadia 6 in terms of cush (btw, these Salomons provide much more traction in mud and loose rocks than the Brooks). Supposedly they don't have cushioned midsole at the forefoot, but the soft lugs on the outsole make up for that. I take care not to run them on pavement. Even on the 1/4 mile between my house and the trailhead, I walk in these rather than run, they just don't feel cushioned enough for the concrete.
Other than that, the speed lacing is as usually awesome like any other Salomon, and the colors are pretty sweet (black/blue). Can't wait to run in the CS version (Clima Shield) in winter - those fit a bit snugger than the regular speed cross due to the CS liner.
This are the running shoes for me! Prior to their release, I swore by the XT Wing Goretex, but the low volume fit of the Speedcross was a revelation for my feet in running. I'm breaking in my second pair, and going into my second season of running exclusively in these shoes and have yet to get a blister. Last year, I focused on training for my first long(er) distance/ vertical gain trail race (17 miles, 4,000 ft elevation gain). My training never suffered due to sore, chaffed, or bloody feet. I didn't even loose a toenail, which is a first for me in running shoes. They are also incredible lightweight, and the tread is bomber, whether you are on loose, dry slopes or running through sloppy mud. The quick lace system is still one of my favorites, I've never had to worry about tripping over an untied lace. I would also give these shoes a gold star for durability, after the first season my original pair are still holding up well, with no visible signs of break down to the sole or to the canvas. I only bought a new pair because the green/pink combo was calling my name!
I've been having heel pains for over 6 months. My doctor told me to find shoes with higher backheel and better arch support. I tried several different pairs of running shoes and none really helped very much. Then I came across these babies. I must admit the purple color was what drew my eyes to them. Once I read up on its features, I decided to to give them a try. After walking around in them for 1 week, my heel pain is 80% gone. All the nice compliments I got was a bonus. I only wish I can still get the Purple color ones...
These are the only shoes I wear now for everyday walking around. Thank goodness I found them!
Speedcross 3's are the best! I have this version in purple (love the color options!) and a Climashield version in black. Wear the same size in both and couldn't be happier with the fit. Great arch support, comfortable all around. Like magic, these shoes even keep out beach sand. Another reviewer claims these are waterproof, I say they're not - which is why I have a Climashield version, also. I run in these several times a week and have never had a blister or foot complaints (something I used to have a lot of). Try them, you won't be disappointed!
I bought these before going on a camping trip and was so happy I did! These shoes are great for light hiking and for going through water. I bought them in purple and got tons of compliments on them. Ran true to size for me. I also thought these were great for airport traveling since they were so easy to take on and off when going through security. Highly recommend these shoes!
I love these shoes. There was no break in period, I just put them on and it was on. They are so comfortable and light and the grips on the bottom are like no other shoe that I've owned. I also wear them hiking and Mountain biking when I don't want to use clipless pedals. The grip on the bottom is like no other.
I am a Solomon fan, hands down. My only complaint about their women's shoes is that they vary quite a bit in sizing. They range from a women's fit (more narrow at the arch & heel)and sometimes it is more of a unisex fit (wider & larger, even though the sizing is right). Light, supportive, perfect. Love them!
Just ordered these for my wife after she tried them on at the store. The color actually looks cooler in person and the size runs larger than normal. She usually wears an 8.5 but found that the size 8 shoes fit her perfectly.
LOOK good but they feel great the first time out! They are comfortable and have great traction! Definitely a keeper!!!!
So upset. Spent good money and after 3 miles up and down hills with lose rock sand and gravel major blisters. Killed my race time. Website should offer money or exchange for better fit. J think they are half size too big. Going back to don't order Nike size... Order regular size if you are a runner.
