The Perfect Shoe For Wet Weather

Campsaver had hands down the best price on these shoes. I tried them on in a local store first and realized I had to size down half a size from my normal 9.5 to a 9. They are beautiful looking shoes and I've had several people ask me where I got them. Unlike all of my other Salomon footwear, these ones I find you definitely need some break in time as they are very stiff. They are completely waterproof as I've tested out on numerous occassions. I find I mainly use them for trail running with my dogs and the ocassional short day hike when I want to wear shorts and don't want to look ridiculous with my hiking boots. I found these shoes had great traction in wet conditions, even while crossing some pretty slimey rocks in the river. I'm not a big fan of the quicklace system, but I find in this shoe they did a better job than they did in the boots of the same model because they put another hook in such a place that you can properly tighten them around the ankle. Overall if you can handle wearing some heel bandaids for a couple weeks to break these bad boys in they are EXTREMELY cushy and comfortable, reliably warm and waterproof quality trail runner/hiking shoes.

I love these shoes!! They are the best bar none that I've ever had. I have $400 orthotics in both shoes because I over-pronate but I don't even use them in my new shoes and my feet feel comfortable and stable all day. I'm not a trail runner or an uber athlete at all. I'm almost 60 and I walk 7km. every day and I stand a lot doing cooking and house stuff and I'm a canoe builder and I stand for that. Thanks, Salomon, for great shoes! I also have Salomon winter boots and cross-country ski boots and love them so I felt confident ordering that brand on-line. They are generous in their sizing so order your normal size. There is good room for your toes. And the service from Back Country is GREAT!

Great shoes for hiking

These shoes are great. I bought them before going to Alaska for the summer. I hiked up some mountains and waterfalls. The shoes are partially water proof. I used them on a hike up a mountain while it was raining the whole day. They put up with a few hours of rain, until the runoff from my legs came through the top of the shoes. Love them and chose them because I don't like regular hiking boots because of the ankle support (I don't like to have things around my ankles). The only problems I've had is getting a blister on my heal, but if you wear thicker socks you shouldn't have this problem. The other is that when they get good and wet it takes a considerable amount of time for them to dry.

Excellent Shoe

This is the second pair of Solomon XA Pro shoes I have owned. My first pair wore out after about 2 years of wearing them nearly every day (I wore them while hiking and trail running). My favorite part about these shoes is the Gore Tex. I hate getting my feet wet while on the trail, and these shoes do a great job of keeping the water out. The only reason I didn't give this shoe 5 stars is that my second pair (the pair that I am currently wearing) is a little uncomfortable. I have had issues with the left shoe rubbing on the back of my ankle, and the tightening system likes to tighten down on a tendon on the top of my foot, but it's nothing I can't get over!

Won't hike without them!!

I have been running since 1991 and my passion is cross country so i have tried a LOT of shoes in all that time nothing compares to SALOMON. I discovered them about 7 years ago and i'll never go back! They have great tread, i can run up super steep rocks. Good ankle support and i love the speed laces! There is no time to stop and re tie shoes.... Which i often have to do for my running partner. ( It's only a matter of time before she joins the salomon family as well) Your feet stay dry with the gortex, i honestly have no complaints, Love them!! And you can look all you want but Moosejaw is always the cheapest and coolest site there is =)Take the Salomon challenge!

Almost Perfect! (Perfect if you don't use a gaiter.)

After being extremely satisfied with my XA Comp 3's I decided to move up to the Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX.Wore these for a year, everywhere. Walking, Running, Hiking, Climbing, Jumping, you name it. I'm not sure if these were meant to be used with gaiters, but I did. It cut through the laces after a while. I bought the Quick Lace replacement kit and that worked for a while, except soon after the eyelet ripped. I never had this problem with my old XA Comp's. The XA Pro 3D GTX's have nylon eyelets for the bottom loops, the rest have plastic casing. I ripped a nylon eyelet. The current XA Comp 5 GTX's have synthetic loops on the bottom. I'm gonna give those a try.

I can not believe I waited this long (years and years) to buy a pair of waterproof trail shoes. What a difference it is to have dry warm feet.
They are a bit stiffer and heavier than I am use to but we'll worth the trade for dry feet.
I had to order my true shoe size rather than a half size bigger like many running shoes.
I have convinced my husband and running partners to order a pair as well. They are worth the money.

Quick easy lace up. great traction and light and water proof

I got these to hike in and they are great! water proofing is great i hosed off my feet, and NOTHING GOT WET MY SOCKS WERE DRY AS CAN BE! the toe is stiff and so when i get sloppy and kick rocks, and stubb my toes, they are actually fine ! wehn its cold and you want to fix the laces you dont have to take off your gloves or mittens its all doable with them on!!!

GREAT shoes

Things I love about these shoes:-great for hiking without high ankle support (I don't like having shoe around my ankle)-they are pretty water proof (unless water comes in from the top i.e. running down your leg)-no laces! they're like slip on shoes that stay on your feet-great treadTwo issues:-blisters on my heals (however with thick socks you shouldn't have this problem)-when they get good and wet, they stay that way for quite a while even with boot/shoe dryers

I cannot complain

These shoes are so fantastic! I primarily wear them for running/waitressing; when I'm not wearing my solomans I wish I was. Really great for light hikes and anything in between. Fits true to size. I don't have arches and it is really difficult for me to find shoes that give me support and comfort, I have found the answer. Definatley buy these shoes!!! I will never stray again....

Bad for me...

I ordered these boots but I will have to return them. If you have a regular feet like mine, then it's not the right shoe for you. Great fit if you have narrow feet and/or high arch. Otherwise it looks great and I'm sad I have to return them. I have a Solomon running shoe and I remember it took me so long to get used to its high arch design.

Shoes don't fit properly

I am very disappointed with these shoes. The first day I wore them, they rubbed the ball of my foot and made a sore spot. I wore my old running shoes for a week and tried the Salomon's again and they did the same thing. I am going to return them.

Ultra Pro vs Wings

I really wanted to like these shoes but I find I am missing my wings. They are stiff and the laces tend to hurt my feet when I try to adjust them properly. Also the back of the shoe at my heel is digging in to the point of blood and blisters. It does not have the cusion the wings have and I find myself putting on my old wings with relief even though they have no tread left. I do like the toe gard and although the goretex makes it a little stiff my dry warm feet thank it. I also noted the one thing that it really has is more toe room and better arch support. If they would just fix the back of the shoe I would be much happier.
Jessica trail jogger at Campmor on 01/01/2012

This style shoe is not like my last pairs of Salomons. I've always liked Salomons for the snug fitting heel and roomy toe, but these have a huge heel area so my foot moves all over the place, and if I try to compensate and tie the laces really tight, then I'm sure my foot would go numb. The collar of the shoe at the anke is way too high and rubs on my ankles. The tongue is puffy and way too big. There's more, but I'll just end saying these are poorly designed and poorly made.

moo5555315 at Backcountry.com on 05/24/2012

Great except for heel blisters/one foot

I have used salomon's for trail running for years, but just this last year had trouble finding a model that didn't hurt my bunion. This one is fine in all respects but it is giving me a bad blister on one heel. Since no other shoe I have tried comes close to salomon for comfort, traction and foot protection off road (and with orienteering you can be very off road), I am working it.
