Just what I was looking for

Rating:*****
I live in South Dakota and winter is pretty extreme, really cold with lots of wind. I needed a warm long coat that was easy to move in and that would block the wind when I walked my dogs. This coat fits my needs perfectly. It has enough room in it that I can layer underneath. I am 5'3" and weigh 110 lbs and the small fits perfectly. I'm glad it doesn't have a hood because a hood would block my vision when I turn my head to look behind me. I haven't found anything negative to say about this coat.

Beautiful and warm

Rating:****
This is a great jacket, it fits great and looks great...this jacket is not bulky (ie does not make you look like the michelin man)...it is great for really cold weather and not so cold weather...extremely lightweight....I only wish it 1. had a hood 2. was windproof and 3. was waterproof so I could wear it all the time...but i guess we don't get that much rain in the winter... Anyhow...a great jacket I would definitley recommend this to a friend...really keeps the legs warm.

warm and super light

Rating:****
Very warm but without the weight of a heavy winter coat. The large comes to about mid-calf on me, at 5'4", which is long enough to keep my legs warm, but not in my way. The "classic" fit is a little baggy on top since it's a straight cut and I needed the large to fit my hip measurements, but all in all I'm pleased. This will be a great packable coat for trips from warmer to colder climates.

Elara Down Coat

Rating:****
This coat is like wearing a high quality sleeping bag...it is so snuggly. I would recommend getting a size bigger than you think you need. You will need to consider your headwear with this coat as it has no hood option. I would be completely stoked with this coat but I got stung for duty when it came into NZ which effectively doubled my costs!!!(this stole the shine a bit)

Great coat

Rating:****
This coat is very cute and warmer than you would think. It's almost like a little sleeping bag with sleeves. It is nice because it is very lightweight and compactable, you could stuff it in a backpack. The only drawback is that it does not have a hood. I live in Utah and I use it to walk my dog on cold days and it works great.

Awesome with long sleeves!!

Rating:*****
Finally a jacket that fits my 5'11" wife. Always has trouble finding sleeves long enough and pant legs that don't go high water on her. Very excellent quality and stylish. Zipper is a bit tricky with a coat this long. She returned a similar one by another maker because the sleeves were too short and the zipper was worse. This one seems great!!

Warm and puffy.

Rating:****
I am an 'apple' shape and the coat was a little tight in the hip area...not so much that it limited movement, but the shape isn't especially flattering. I'm wearing it for warmth, not for Fashion Week, though, so I don't care that much but the reviewer that described it as wearing a comfy sleeping bag was totally spot-on. Warm, not sexy.

Love this coat!

Rating:****
I have been in search of the perfect coat to keep me warm in the winter because I'm always cold. This coat is it! Snuggly, warm and stylish all in one. I ordered a size larger, per other recommendations, so its a little roomy but great none the less. Finally, I warm running errands or coming home from work late 2nd shift.

This is a great coat

Rating:****
I looked for a light-weight, flattering, long, warm down coat for a while and this was a great find. I only wish it had a hood; however, I got a long cashmere scarf and and a big furry hat and they work great together for a whole ensemble. Great for my work attire as well as mountain wear.

Great coat!!

Rating:*****
Great coat!! I have no problem with the fit. Being slim fitting it can be worn for outdoor activities and the city. I needed a coat that was versatile. Having a hood limits where you can wear it; also, it is an excuse to knit a scarf and hat with some zing.

Negative Reviews:

Not a good fit for me.

Rating:**
I bought this to wear in the New England winter. While it seems like a nice coat it does not fit me well. I am 5'3" and this was too long in the length and the sleeves seemed too short in comparison. I am going to return this item. I would recommend it to someone who is on the taller side with narrow shoulders. While I never got the chance to try it out in the cold weather it did not seem to be as warm as I had thought, maybe it is warm but just not bulky.

down coat not a good quality

Rating:*
for [$] this was not quality. the down filling moved around to where there were spots where i could hold between finger and thumb and have NO filling. In MN weather well below zero, this wouldn't work. i returned the coat.

Not good if you have a big bust

Rating:**
I bought this for my sister, a large. It did not fit her even though she is short. She has a 44 bust line, and it was too small.
Linda the walker at Sierra Trading Post on 01/18/2008

great for cold weather dog walks

Rating:**
Had to send the coat back due to unusual small size around butt - would have been great for my winter dog walks

"Not warm enough for walking in wind"

Rating:***
I was looking for a down long coat for walking everyday in the fall/winter season. The length is fine, but not good without undershirt, shirt and sweater if the wind is blowing. It is comfortable and easy to move in. I wear a size 6 but read reviews and ordered a medium. I kept the coat but will look for a warmer version...

Narrow in the hips, always go up 1 sz

Rating:***
I am a very active and slender woman yet this jack was very small in the hips. It has a nice light weight to it. Take other's advise and order a size larger than usual. I wish I would have! I agree, I wish it included a hood.
Chris at Sierra Trading Post on 02/16/2009

Good fit, not as warm as I thought

Rating:***
This jacket is really nice and warm to about 0 F. At temperatures below 0 F, it is not quite warm enough, especially without the hood. Otherwise it is a really nice and lightweight jacket.
Emily at Sierra Trading Post on 12/19/2007

Warm - but needs a hood

Rating:***
This jacket fits pretty good (I am 5'3" and 135 lbs) but is not warm enough if it is below about 10 F due to the lack of hood.
Emily at Sierra Trading Post on 10/06/2008

light but snug

Rating:***
Even ordering up a size as suggested by other raters, this coat is snug -- especially around the hips.
