Luv 'em...I want more!

I love this sock whether I'm in the office or on the trail. The sock is a great density and thickness for year round use...there are thicker socks and there are thinner socks, but this one is mixed just right. My feet sweat a lot and they move the moisture well enough to keep them dry and comfortable in most conditions. I'm not sure how the other reviewer could say they don't breath well...the only thing that breaths better than this sock is a screen door, but that won't work well as a sock. He also mentioned that his feet became sweaty...I thought everyone knew socks don't stop your feet from sweating...they just cushion and move the moisture away from your foot as it sweats. If you're looking for an antiperspirant this isn't going to's just a sock...but a darn good one.

Like the smart wool

I bought $100 worth of these socks for an upcoming deployment to Afghanistan. I have a pair that was issued to me in 1999 that I have been wearing regularly since. They are absolutely bulletproof. They don't wear out. They don't stink. They wick moisture well. They are comfortable. When I know I'm doing something arduous, I make sure I'm wearing those socks. Anyway, I decided to buy more smartwool socks. These "Hiking light wool" socks are not the same as the ones I just mentioned.

Like my original smartwool socks, these wick moisture well. They're comfortable. They don't resist smell as well as my old pair. Also, they already look pretty wore despite only 2 months use. Still, they're better than the Army issue wool socks and I like them a lot.

Show your feet some love!

These socks keep your feet comfortable no matter the temperature. Hiking in summer heat leaves your feet sweaty, but these socks wick the sweat away from your feet, helping them to stay dry and relatively cool. I've submerged my feet in icy rivers with these socks too, and they retain heat well enough that after a few minutes I couldn't tell that my feet had gotten cold at all. They're very durable in the toes and heels; these socks have outlasted any other socks that I've ever put through the same treatment. And they're a breeze to wash/dry. These are without a doubt the best socks I've ever owned, and the only socks I care to have with me when hiking or travelling.

Coming back for more!

These socks are very comfortable from the moment that you put them on.
I like the way they hug the arch and don't bunch in your shoe. There is no itch and they wash beautifully. I bought these at Christmas as a gift for my family and now I'm back to get more. I asked them if they wanted another style and the answer was "no" these are great! You can't go wrong for fit,
cushioning, comfort, and just the right amount of warmth.

I'm back to buy a second pair

My feet are always cold and I have to wear Birkenstocks shoes (as in sandals). What to do when snow comes? Someone suggested Smartwool and I bought a pair in size Large. I see now that these are men's socks, so that explains why they were too big. I like them so well that I'm ordering a second pair, medium this time. They wash wonderfully, and I'm very happy with them.

Instant favorite

You can't beat these socks for all day comfort. They provide warmth without being itchy like other wool socks. I like the way they hug the instep but provide ample room at the toes. I bought my daughter a pair last Christmas and she requested more of the same this year. These can be used in all but the warmest temperatures. They are a family favorite!

Expensive but worth it

I was shocked by the price but impressed by the reviews so I took a chance and bought a couple of pair. Now I see realize that cost is relative and the quality of these socks makes the price seem much more reasonable. I'm buying a couple of more pairs before heading off to the Scottish Highlands for a Spring hike.

Great socks

These are great socks. I bought them for my husband, who has sensitive and perpetually cold feet, and he loves them. He won't wear anything but Smartwool now.
Mackie at Rock/Creek Outfitters on 01/01/2010

These are EXTREMELY comfortable with one exception. They don't breathe all that well. Wearing just plain tennis shoes, and not doing any physical activity, my feet became sweaty

Product Defective

I have just opened the pack on these socks and was shocked to find two holes -- one large enough to poke a forefinger through on the heel immediately above the reinforcement weave and another small one at the bottom of the weave.
