SmartWool's basic Hiking Sock is a medium cushioned sock - thick enough for warmth and padding, but not so thick it alters the fit of your boot. High Tech Merino wool naturally wicks away moisture to keep feet dry. SmartWool socks will work hard and not shrink.
The Smartwool Hiking Light Crew Sock for Men is great for hiking or walking on the trail. Featuring an arch brace that holds the sock in place adding extra support and a flat-knit toe seam to keep you comfortable all day long.

My boots and I beat these to death every year, and the same three pairs I've had for years continue to stand up to the abuse. When I'm casually hiking without a pack these are my favorite socks. If I'm wearing full-size boots and have my pack on then I wear Smartwool's Trekking socks, which, are the greatest socks ever created.
Also, a small addition, I discovered Smartwool about 12 years ago or so. I'm a drummer, and always hated cotton socks. Twenty minutes into a show or rehearsal my shoes and feet would feel as if I fell in a pool with my clothes on. I tried a pair of Smartwools out and was absolutely awestruck. My feet stayed dry, felt better, and always remained the perfect temperature. Now that I spend most of my time backpacking things haven't changed. I'll stand by Smartwool as long as they keep making the Trekking weights and these. You will not find better socks. Period.
keep your feet dry by wicking well. not for use in weather above 75 in my experience, but my feet sweat a lot. good padding in the right places. had the same 3 socks (not pairs, i lost one) for almost 12 years. they are supremely worn, but they are still better than cotton or cotton blend socks years later. i wear these one day, switch to PHDs the next, and back to these after that. makes for pretty stink-free hiking. 4 stars instead of 5 because i like the PHDs better, but for the price these are B.A.!!!
This past year I finally switched over to "sage" for my boot socks. I mainly used that standard issue black wool/cotton sock as my primary sock to wear while in uniform. Loden is a green that is just a shade or two different than the typical sage but it works just the same. My feet and I feel so much more comfortable in these socks. In the past i have been oppose to paying $16 for a pair when i could easily get 3 pairs for $6 less but these socks are worth the extra.
These socks are comfortable enough and fit alright, but they just don't hold a candle to the SmartWool pHD's.
