SmartWool PhD Outdoor Light Socks -
SmartWool PhD Outdoor Light Crew Socks are the highest performer in the SmartWool ladies socks line, great for trail running, hiking, mountain biking and more.
Crew sock height is the second highest in the SmartWool line, coming up to traditional crew height below the calf, keeping dust and dirt off your skin.
Made of the all-natural, odor free, moisture-controlling Merino wool fibers for which SmartWool socks are famous.
Wool-on-Wool (WOW) technology puts more SmartWool in high-impact and high-wear areas to help reduce shock and abrasion, making these performance socks a lasting pair.
SmartWool's 4-Degree Fit System means special attention to ankle, arch and insteps to keep sock in place - no bunching or slipping with this pair!
Strategically placed mesh zones provide maximum foot ventilation.
100% SmartWool fibers against your skin absorb sweat in its vapor state, which means sweat never condenses and makes your feet wet and clammy, and odor-causing bacteria won't build up.

Awesome Wool Socks

I did a few hikes with PhD wool socks and they turned out to be better than I thought because the socks are comfortable and left my foot blister-free after a 10 mile hike with about 35 pounds of gear. The design of the look good and the socks are true to fit. The socks does not roll down like my other wool socks and does not loosen up inside after a prolong use of time. I highly recommend them.

My only complaint is the price being a tad bit high compared to other wool socks, but a very good investment for my foot.

Nice socks

These socks keep my feet dry and fit very well. They seem durable and wash well (machine washed and dried low to med). There was minimal shrinkage (but I sized up to L anticipating this, as I don't air dry them). They are warm and well cushioned. I've used them for short hikes, with boots, and everyday (though for most of my non-athletic footwear, the cushion is a bit too thick).

Wife loves them

My wife has 4 pairs of these and wears them for almost every activity. The PhD line of Smartwools is a superior design to every other type we have tried, breathable while being padded in all the right spots. She usually has them on for 10k's and 1/2 marathons too and has never had a foot problem while using them (unlike some other brands). Pricey but worth the investment.

I wear Smartwool socks all year round, but especially in the winter when I am running outside. Even if my feet get wet, I don't know until I take off my shoes. My grandson asks for them for Christmas and hs birthday. He is ten and loves the way they feel on his feet. Great socks!

Love These

I love these socks. They hug my feet, are soft and comfortable, regulate foot temperature, and keep foot odor away. Also, these are the only socks I can sleep in without having to take off in the middle of the night (unlike other socks that get too hot and sweaty).
EarthWoman at REI on 11/11/2013

great sock

Most socks I have tried on for hiking are too bulky. These are just right. I also use these to down hill ski. Wool makes the difference. You really don't need a lot of cushion if your boats fit well and are well made.
hikeglacier at REI on 07/07/2012

Ilove thesesocks

I love these socks because theyfitsowell-they are made with extrastretchymaterial at critical parts, and a cushiony sole. I am allergic to woll(it makes my skin itchy),but these are minimally itchy.. They have become my winter socks.
hey Jude at Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) on 03/03/2013

awesome socks!

I wore them all day walking around my son's scout camp, mostly Trail walking. My feet stayed dry all day. They were very comfirtable to wear and fit well.
susan ck at Campmor on 07/07/2013

Fantastic socks

I will never buy any other socks than the SmartWool brand. I want to try others now - but the PHD are incredible.

Very nice wool socks

The socks were thicker than expected. I bought these as gifts but liked them so much, I ordered more for myself.

Warm Feet in Arkansas

We are safari people and wear them with our boots in hot/warm climates or at home in cold climates. They are a staple item for Christmas. I have introduced my adult grand daughters to the joy of warm feet here in Arkansas in the cold months, which they appreciate. I order from Campmor for sale prices in quantities for the basic hikers and some fun colors, too. I enjoy them for walking/running in the colder months. Coolmax is a wonderful product in every way.
