SmartWool Lightweight Crew -
Ultimate comfort for your high-energy treks.
You swing your arms quite a few times on a 15K jaunt on the skate track. Fortunately, the SmartWool Women's Lightweight Crew features sculpted side panels that eliminate true side seams, so you don't end up with raw, chafed skin. At the same time, you enjoy the lightweight merino knit's breathability and ability to keep you warm without letting you overheat. A contoured cuff means that there's no gap between the cuff and the top of your glove, and the drop tail has got your back when you bend over to adjust your boots.

Fabric:

  • Merino wool keeps you warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s warm
  • Contoured sleeve cuff and drop tail bottom hem for increased coverage
  • Contrast color stitching on interior flatlock seams

Good merino baselayer top

Good merino baselayer top. Comfortable and warm. Styling is cute and modern. Length is good -- long enough for my long torso, with just enough material to tuck it into the matching baselayer bottoms. Fit runs small (a good thing in my opinion). I usually wear XS but I sized up to an S. XS in this baselayer is formfitting which is recommended for cold-weather baselayers, but it's also marginally too short for my long torso; S is looser and has better length, which I prefer for comfort. Durability has been pretty good, but I've only had these a couple months. After a few wears and washes, only minimal pilling and some of the seams have worn through on the surface, but no functional problems. Price is expensive; I'd only buy these on sale.

One of my favorite shirts

Initially, I bought this with the intent to use it exclusively as a base layer for hiking and skiing. Now, it is one of my favorite shirts in general. I find myself using it as a base layer for recreation and for every day life (under sweaters or another shirt). It is surprisingly warm for how light it is and I love that it is truly functional and versatile. So worth the money!

One of my favorites

I love this shirt. It's my go-to base layer for just about everything. Fits comfortably and true to size, not the least bit scratchy, and never seems to get stinky... Really low maintenance, unlike other things i've had, this one hasn't shrunk at all (though I don't have to wash it too often).

Finally Warm

I wear this as a layer under all my sweaters. It gives that close-to-the-skin warmth that I'm always missing. And despite the wool, it's soft!
Only thing I don't like is the abundance of seams. I know they're meant to make it more form fitting, but they are slightly binding.

Love this!

I used to own long underwear or "silkies" long underwear - never again. I have never found something that i could wear under clothes/suits that didn't bunch up or get uncomfortable. I also love the look under my short sleeve t-shirts.
Janegoose at Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) on 03/03/2013

I bought this primarily to wear just lounging around on weekends. It's soft, warm, and the fit is so flattering. Travels well, no wrinkles. I've even worn it under a cardigan to work.

I wear this crew for running and it has worked wonderfully. I have not had any chaffing even on days when I have ran 2 hours.

Loved this shirt. I would definitely order a similar product from this company. Thank you Zappos for being a great place to shop.

Great all around top

Love Smartwool, comfortable, wears well, holds up to lots of washes. Highly recommend.

Negative Reviews:

I am so disappointed in this top. I love SmartWool, have two tops that I have had for years. With this one they added these weird arm seams, perhaps a style thing, that were so scratchy. Not at all typical for this brand where seams are not noticeable. I am sending it back.

I much prefer the midweight version

I found this lightweight thermal top to be very itchy and I returned it for the midweight version. I don't understand why the midweight smartwool products are less itchy than the lightweight products. It's counterintuitive but it's true. I LOVE midweight smartwool products and don't find them itchy.

Neutral Reviews:

I think it is a great top - I love the color and the feel of the fabric when I put it on - however, I'm considering returning it. I really need a petite top - the sleeves are extremely long for me and the rest of it is not proportioned properly either. I wish it would be sold in petite sizes.
