pontoon boat post guide-ons

The plastic pipe supplied with the kit was too small to fit over the uprights. I filed the corners down but was still unable to get the pipes to "slide" over the up rights. Went to a local plumbing supply and measured pipe and compaired. The pipe at the supply place was about .040 inch larger in the inside diameter. Purchased extra pipes and all is well.
Supplied measurement 2.025----- I purchased intown 2.055 inside diameter.... Fits better, rolls better assimbles better.
Seems like the manufacturer controls the outside diameter real close, not so close on the ID.

Thread the very large needle

Loading my pontoon boat at the launch ramp, with little to much wind, makes it easier now with these load guides. Just get the bow between the two middle posts and the two outer posts help keep the pontoons centered over the bunks as we pull the trailer up and out of the water. No more getting down into the water to hold the boat inplace. I painted mine black to match the color of the trailer. Use marine grade paint.

"Perfect" made loading pontoon a cinch

These guide posts really help determine where the bunks are on my trailer. Easy to install easy to use. As matter of fact my wife put the pontoon on the trailer for the first time today without any direction or guidance. I haven't had any issues problems and I definetly recommend them to anyone tha has problems determining where the bunks are located on a pojtoon trailer.

Worked well for planned modification

I didn't like the angled guides that are marketed for ski boats, so I bought these and purchased my own, longer 2" PVC pipes and put them on these 90deg brackets for my boat. So far they work very well and help me get my boat in the right spot on the first try. They do seem a little bit expensive for what they are.

Excellent product, but had to improvise!

As stated before, it's an excellent product, but had to add extra gaskets (washers) to make it work on my pontoon boat trailer. Perhaps Smith needs to add a few more (20 total gaskets). However, the cost for the gaskets was minimal, and, more importantly, the guide-ons work perfectly.

This product works exactly as described.

This product was very easy and quick to install. It helps me guide the pontoons on the trailer straight and keeps it on the bunks as you pull out of the water. No more backing back in the water to straighten it out on the bunks.

Its takes one try to load my pontoon now

It takes me one try to load my pontoon now.It used to take three or more tries. My too is 25 foot and it tries to smash my wife when we load .Thanks you are saving me money on roses and bandages.

works well after some custom fitting

this product worked well after i added some shims so it would bolt tight to my trailor also i had to modify the pvc pipe so it was tall enough to handle some steeper boat ramps.

I would buy again

We are using these on jet ski lifts and they work really well. We added longer "arms" and they are easy to grap and guide the skis on.

Great item! A must have for pontoons!

I use this on my 21 ft poontoon boat. I don't why I didn't put them on sooner.
it made loading the boat 100% easier.

Negative Reviews:

buy these if you want to damage your boa

these guides are not tall enough to break the waters surface when pulling out my pontoon the did not center as advertised and put a huge dent in my pontoon do not waste your money on these

Bends Easily at 90 Degree Angle

I installed these on my boat. On the positive side, they make loading the boat MUCH easier. However, after a couple of uses one of the posts bent a little. After a couple of more uses the (bent) post bent some more. I boat in a river so I always have to deal with current and wake from jet ski's, barges, speed boats, etc. When the water is calm, the guides seem to work best. My I think that these guides may work great at a small horsepower restricted lake with not a lot of current/wake. The other thing that I do not like about the guides is that the plastic PVC inserts need to be about 6" higher. I have these guides installed on the rearmost cross-member of my bunk trailer and they are usually under water, because the ramp I use is fairly steep. I thought about replacing the PVC pipes, but the bent guide has made me re-think that plan. I may purchase another set or find a welder to fix (and reinforce) the bent guide or I may consider other type of guides, but am not sure that the other guides would work as well straightening out the boat at the rear of the bunks -- which I need due to the current always floating the rear pontoons downstream a little bit when I pull out of the water.

Glide-on' s are worth the expense

The guide's themselves work as advertised, we
put on four, two on the rear brace and two on the
forward brace first day of use there as a brisk wind, the rear guides were just showing above the water but the forward guides were easy to see, just lined up the four of them and drove right on first time. great.
the real problem was in the installation, the ubolts were not threaded enough to tighten on my cross brace which was about two inches had to buy a spacer tube and cut out about eight spacers so that the u bolts could be tighened. the mfg could have threaded the whole bolt so that it would fit any trailer. when it said it would fit 2 inch and 3 inch frame they neglected to mention that the brace has to go sideways rather than lengthways on the frame, not as strong they could have made the plate so that the bolts could go thru the plate on a three inch frame, but we got them on and they work. just be prepared for difficulty with the install

Works good once you get them installed

I have a 26' Playcraft tritoon. I had to order the longer u-bolts. Another $30 but after that the install was simple. Be sure to clue the caps on. I lost 1 the first time loading the boat on the trailer. It loaded so easy now. It's a great product. So far. Almost need 2 sets of brackets to prevent upright from twisting when you bump them with pontoons,
Party Time Jim at Gander Mountain on 08/08/2010

Bent Mine

Very easy to install. I bent one the second time I used it. It needs a diagonal brace. I'd also like it to be taller. I'm going to modify mine with diagonal braces and connect them to my other guides with guide boards.
Dale at Gander Mountain on 06/06/2009

Not universal

This would not fit as advertized on my trailer, an aluminum Road King pontoon trailer. I was able to get it attached after some re-engineering, a trip to the hardware store, and some drilling. Now it works great!
