Very, very solid portable basketball system!!
I was a bit weary about this basketball system with reading all the reviews about the poor instructions/missing parts/breaking or shattering glass backboards. But when I recieved this unit, I assembled it myself. The instructions were pretty straight-forward (might have been updated) and self-explanatory. There were no missing parts and the foam pad that was "missing" on some reviewer's reviews was already installed on the backboard from the factory. I built this system by myself with the help of a sawhorse and only took a few hours. The only improvement that I wish they would make is to the combination of the poles. They want you to mark the ends of the poles but I wish they would add a marker for you instead. I used a ladder and pounded the poles into each other without the use of a hammer. Was a bit loud though. The tempered glass has held up to my dunks and shots, so no worries there. I used sand to fill the base - based on my location and I didn't want to deal with water either. The only issue I had with system is the plastic cover that goes over the base and the bottom half of the pole. I actually had to get 2 longer bolts to be able secure the cover to the pole. Other than that, the system looks AWESOME and feels great too! I would definitely recommend it. Don't be afraid of the negative reviews (I admit, I was apprehensive) either. You'll be a happy camper and my two boys (7 & 4) love this system! They play on it almost daily!!!
Great product
HEAVY and LARGE item to pick up from store but we managed. Put together nicely. No problem with putting post together if you use WD-40 and take your time. You will need a sawhorse and another person to help (doesn't have to be an adult.) The unit is solid and you can tell immediately it is a quality product. It doesn't have the same loud sound as a typical plastic backboard. It also has a truer bounce for bank shots. No complaints for this unit. It lowers to 7'6" and goes up to 10". It has a large overhang so the base can actually be off the "court" you are playing on. Solid rim that you can dunk on, though I wouldn't hang. The rim has a nice soft touch for shots and you can adjust the "tightness" of the rim with just one bolt. Great product. Make sure you tighten everything fully before playing, then again after playing on it for a few days. A couple of bolts that we thought were tight, needed another turn to sturdy them up.
very good product!!!! don't really like screw jack and very heavy to move around and that's because i keep it in my garage and bring out when ready to use

Bad experience
Sadly I have to give a big thumbs down on this product. I ordered it online and picked it up at my local store just fine. My seventeen year old son and I started putting it together...that's when it started to get interesting. Part of the way into the project it was discovered that we were shorted some bolts and washers. It was going to be a bigger pain to disassemble and return than to go to Home Depot and pick some up. We finally got it all together. Within the first hour of use, the entire backboard shattered. None of the kids dunked- the ball hit the front egde of the rim hard, bounced off and CRUNCH! It shattered. That means to me that maybe it had a hairline crack at the beginning... I called Spalding customer service direct. They are replacing the backboard portion - it will ship to me in a month.
Kids were disappointed, so was I with this product. I bought the more expensive goal with the thinking it would be sturdier . Be aware if you get one of these, you need 2 people to assemble this."
