Stoic Thrive Short -
Low on weight and high on comfort.
Feathery-light and highly-breathable, the Stoic Thrive Short keeps you cool whether you're backpacking through the desert or nailing heel hooks on a ferocious boulder problem. Amidst the heat of spring and summer, this short's welded construction makes your chafe-inducing cotton shorts look childishly unprepared.

Fit:

  • 3-D Ergonomic fit tapers from the waist to hips and uses a slightly looser fit towards the knees so this short can move as you move

Fabric:

  • Welded construction eliminates annoying seam bulk and reduces the opportunities for uncomfortable chafing
  • Magically lightweight material means that these shorts weigh in at just six ounces

Ventilation:

  • Breathable and dynamic Thrive stretch-weave material vents body heat and wicks sweat away from your body

Weather and Wind:

  • A water-resistant DWR coating shrugs off light drizzle and the occasional post-climb cocktail spill

Positive Reviews:

Super lightweight, awesome stretchy material (exactly like typical boardshorts). Dry quickly, and are a dream in hot weather. Minor CONS: the fit was a bit too tight around the waist - I'm a medium in everything (32-34"), and these are just a bit tight. However, the stretchy fabric makes up for it as they don't pinch or prevent full range of movement. Also, because of this sizing issue, the 2 front pockets are basically useless....can't put anything in them without it looking silly and feeling worse.
Verdict: if you're using 'em strictly for workouts, hikes, climbing, etc., they're awesome....if you want them as casual shorts where you'd be using the pockets often, you may want to look elsewhere.
Update: I stand by my initial review....and add that these are BY FAR the best shorts I've ever worn for working out. Weights, running, they're just the most comfortable shorts EVER.

I have never put on a better pair of performance shorts. I have been buying these shorts in every color and using them for everything from climbing to running. Great and super light weight, the stretch is perfect for full mobility and they breath like a fat kid after running quarter mile.
The only thing I would say is like most Stoic products you will need to size up. These have nice little side cinches to keep them from being loose, but wearing the size suggested to me in the sizing chart I will never have to use those awesome little cinches.

I've been looking for a pair of shorts like these for almost a year now. Lightweight, stretchy and uber comfortable. I can't attest to the durability just yet, but I've been wearing them consistently as my only pair of shorts for over a month now and I love them.
Only complaint is the side straps don't stay where I put them for very long, they come loose pretty easily.
I'm pretty consistently a 32" waist and I went with the Mediums and they fit like a glove.

These shorts are going to be fantastic this summer. I was wearing them around the house this week and they feel like they're barely there. I have relatively large thighs and a large posterior, and these are stretchy enough to fit great. The one odd thing about them is that I bought two pairs in Large, and the waist size seems to be about 2" different in them, although the adjustable sides seem to be able to make up the slack.

A nice super comfortable, super light and stretchy pair of shorts.
The sizing is a bit off and potentially inconsistent though. I'm a 34" waist and I ordered two mediums. One pair just barely fit, the other didn't even come close. Exchanged them for two larges, both which fit great using the adjustable side straps.
The welded seems that cuts across the crotch look a little funny too, which makes these really only appropriate for outdoor activities.

I bought these shorts to hike with and to wear around the house/town. They are super comfy and flex with your movement. The pockets are pretty tight so keys or phone make a perfect outline in the material. I wish it had a rear pocket for around town, but can't complain about anything else. I"m 6'1" 200 lbs and the large fits perfect with the side adjustments if needed.

These are great shorts. They are lightweight, move well when you are active, and feel durable. They are nearly identical to the Stoic Thrive SUP, with the only noticeable difference being no third zip-up pocket. The length on this feels the same as the Thrive SUP- I'm 5'11" and these go just below my knee.
For sizing- I have a 33-34 waist and a Large fits awesome.

So light, stretchy, and comfortable. But durable at the same time. As a backpacker, you couldn't ask for more. They weigh NOTHING in your pack, the welded seams ensure long life, and they dry so quickly it's unbelievable. Another solid garment from Stoic. I love this company.

Very nice shorts! Super light, stretchy, shed water fairly well, and look to be very durable.
Note on sizing, chart says Medium is 32.4-35.6in waist. I'm a 32" waist and Medium fits well, but just barely. For 33" and up go with Large.

BC, please tell me you are not discontinuing this line of shorts? I have two and am going to be needing more.

Negative Reviews:

I bought them, and ended up returning them. Super thin material but still seemed quality. But the look is so blah. It's like wearing a flowing skirt.

Neutral Reviews:

I've worn these 5-6 times for trail running and biking. I really like that shorts are super light weight and dry quickly, but I've noticed a few short comings that are preventing these guys from becoming my go to shorts for cardio activity. First, as others have mentioned, there are only pockets in the front, and these are very shallow. The form fitting nature of the shorts makes the pockets a bit narrow, and when I'm running/biking/whatever, it actually requires some effort to reach into the pockets. Second, the built in "belt" seems to loosen as I run. Not a huge deal because the shorts don't fall off, but a bit annoying. I would prefer a more traditional built in belt that draws shut below the navel instead of on the sides, or even better would be belt loops to begin with. With deeper pockets and belt loops for a traditional belt, I would wear these casually on warm summer days.

These are great shorts but if you are on the shorter side, they run a bit long.
