Size UP to Stay Warm!

Rating:****
Using the words, "relaxed fit," I bought a S, and it was tight, especially under the arms. Thinking one size up would do, I ordered a M, with similar results! I do have larger biceps for a girl, but am usually a 6/8. I am now exchanging the M for a L. The top feels slightly scratchy to my skin, but I am hoping liquid fabric softener will help. I have this product in the bottoms, and love them. Those actually do run bigger--the S does fit--and are not scratchy. The waist is high enough not to show your butt crack, but low enough not to be, "grannie bottoms."

Perfect winter baselayer

Rating:*****
I ordered one and used it so much when cycling that I ordered two more. In 20-30F weather, it keeps you warm without letting you overheat when combined with a lightweight merino wool athletic sweater and a windbreaker. And despite lots of sweating, it does not get stinky. Or, not very fast. I also wear them as a base layer at home. I can keep the thermostat down without having to wear the old, thick, itchy wool underwear I once did. A note on itchiness: I don't find that this itches, but it does feel like wool. A very sensitive friend of mine thinks it itches slightly.

Excellent layering shirt

Rating:*****
I found this shirt to fit it's description and it is an excellent layer for biking, xc skiing now shoveling, etc. The neck tab referred to in other reviews is a small addition at the top of the placket that can be folded over to cover the zipper tab so it doesn't poke you in the neck - very nice. I ordered an xl based on prior reviews that described it as snug fitting, but a large would have been OK. The fabric is relatively thin - probably not suited as an indoor top without something under or over it.

Warm and zip neck is convenient

Rating:****
I bought the bottoms along with this top. They are marvelous as cotton doesn't keep me warm enough and I don't like synthetics. These wool don't items don't itch as you'd expect, but are very comfortable and warm. The zipper mock turtleneck is convenient in the event you're getting a little too warm or just for getting in and out of the top. These kept me warm in a 68 degree house under my regular winter clothes or when shoveling the driveway of snow!

Weird neck

Rating:****
I really like this top except for the neckline--the bottom hits mid-neck rather than at the neck base--this makes the zipper bubble rather than lay flat. Whomever did the patterns for these wasn't using human bodies as a model. The neck is small around but I have a small neck so that's fine. I'm going to keep and alter it since it was so cheap. The armholes are on the large side also.

excellent - neck fits fine

Rating:*****
The zip-neck fits nicely whether zipped or left open (I'm 5-foot-2 and 125 lbs), and I didn't detect the "unsightly bulge" someone else complained about. The fabric quality is outstanding. I wore it as the second of three layers for 6 hours of strenuous cross-country skiing at about 20 degrees F, and was totally comfortable. And absolutely no odor at the end of the day! I'm a Merino wool convert.

Simply the BEST!

Rating:*****
I have several sets (tops and bottoms) as do the rest of my family. We are very active Oregonians and use these as a base layer all year long. Great for winter mountain activities and for backpacking when the nights and early mornings are cold. Because they are merino wool, a natural fiber, they do not retain body odors which is a real plus on extended back country trips.

Good for the price

Rating:****
I use this for layering around the house and out hiking/snowshoeing. It is lightweight, soft, and warm. I like the zip neck. Craftsmanship is fair at best (the cut is a little off) but IMO that is reflected in the price. I also find the torso a bit short but overall I would say this is a decent value for the price.

If only I could buy them all!

Rating:*****
I used this shirt on an overnight pack trip in the Cascades. We were about 6000 feet and it froze in the morning. This shirt was warm and very lightweight. Best of all it did not itch. Plus, I just love the burgundy color! I have ordered a matching long sleeve tee.

best product for the price

Rating:*****
I use this product as my second layer for working in extreme cold climates. It is comfortable, light weight, non- restrictive, and stands up to alot of rough conditions. I buy this product every year and believe me if a product dosen't work for me I dont get cold twice.

Negative Reviews:

Mixed

Rating:**
This shirt is not snug enough to use as a base layer, it's sized quite large. Even if it were it wouldn't fit me. Like all athletic clothes for women, it's cut to fit a skinny teenage boy. The zipper end pokes straight out at the bust line and won't lay flat. It would work okay for someone with an A cup or maybe a B. To wool is a little itchy; this is not a high quality merino. But it is lightweight and thin, which is very nice.

Boxy and blah

Rating:**
I bought this to wear as a top layer over a cami or the only layer under my shell for warmer weather skiing, but it's too boxy to be flattering. The torso was big and the sleeves a bit short so it's going back.
Adventuregirl at Sierra Trading Post on 08/08/2009

Disappointing

Rating:**
Warm and soft. Would be an ideal garment, were it not for an unsightly bulge at the top of the zipper which is sewn in the wrong way. Not worth returning, but cannot be worn in public.

Nice product with too tight neck

Rating:***
Nice product that is unfortunately too tight in the neck. I normally like turtlenecks for winter wear, but this is just too tight. If you want to wear it unzipped, like the photo, it's fine. Don't plan to zip the t-neck up. If I order again, I will get a crew neck. Following on advice of the other reviewers, I ordered a Medium, which is indicated at size 10-12. I am normally an 8 or maybe 10. The medium fit me fine in the body - just not the neck. I like the idea of returning to wool for a baselayer - I've had it with the poly-pro stench. This is a nice product except for the neck.

good for layering.

Rating:***
I originally ordered this in natural & didn't like the color or the "see throughness" of this top. I sent it back for the burgundy color which is better. Its wool which is wonderful, however the neck on both tops is very wide. I figured it would be good as a layer over another turtleneck.

too baggy...

Rating:***
This top is sized large. I should have believed the description that says it is a relaxed fit. Was expecting it to fit like other brands- as a snug baselayer. Instead, baggy around the midddle, fine around the arms and chest. The red color is really pretty though...
jr at Sierra Trading Post on 10/26/2009

moderately pleased

Rating:***
I generally use a medium, but this runs big, so a small fit better. Loved the color, but the wool isn't as soft as my other merino wool brand shirts. Fabric is quite thin, but for the price it was worth it.

not relaxed

Rating:***
Fits regular. Not relaxed. I'd say order the next size, unless you really like your shirts slicked over your skin.

Good layering piece. I ordered the next size up for perfect fit.
