The North Face Denali Jacket Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

You're one step closer to having your face rocked

Two years ago I decided to see what all the fuss was about concerning the North Face Denali. You’ve all seen them. It’s the quintessential piece from the North Face line that everyone and their mom seems to own. So after saving a bit of money up I headed to the local North Face outlet store to pick mine up.
After arriving at the store I headed to where the men’s fleeces were kept and found a wall that seemed to be devoted to Denali jackets. I knew that they were popular, but this was crazy. I picked out a Heather Grey/ Black fleece and threw it one. What happened next inside of my body as that jacket was zipped up is hard to describe. Imagine getting a hug from a polar bear made out of cotton candy as you eat a warm cinnamon roll. It was so comfortable. The Polartec material was super soft. All of the seams, especially the ones at the shoulders, utilize abrasion resistant overlays. These reduce any irritable rubbing that may occur when the fabric is pressed against the body for long periods of time.
This jacket has been equipped with a myriad of different features. It’s easiest to move from the top to the bottom. First, when zipped all the way up the Denali leaves plenty of room in the neck for comfort, but not for wind or rain to seep in. I have never had a problem with mine causing any discomfort in the neck area. Moving to the sleeves the first thing that is noticed are the reinforced patches over the shoulders and the elbows. After two years of hard use I have noticed zero wear at these sites. At the ends of each sleeve is an elastic band. While over the wrist the band is not too tight, simultaneously it does not leave excess room for the sleeve to slip up or down. When pulled up the elastic snugly holds each sleeve in place so that you won’t have to worry about slippage that most jackets/fleeces/sweatshirts/whatever have when you pull the sleeve up when requiring you’re arms to be free or to cool down a few degrees.
In addition to the main horizontal zipper the jacket features; two zippered pockets for placing your hands, a napoleon zipper (vertical chest zip), a horizontal chest zip, and two pit zips. Every single pocket has seen a lot of use on my jacket. Roomy and easy to access there are not a lot of cons. The only annoyance that has plagued me are the hand pockets that have a recessed lateral area that causes me to miss keys and sometimes my phone when they slip back there.
All of the zippers are bombproof. I have accidently zipped over everything I have put into my pockets from headphone cords, receipts, socks, etc. Every zipper still functions smoothly. The only complaint concerns the small piece of fabric that is loosely tied to each zipper to assist in opening/closing. I have lost about half of these and triple knotted the rest so that they won’t come loose anymore.
I usually wear a large/XL sized jacket. I bought a XL Denali and was very please with its generous cut. I have enough room to fit a sweatshirt of wear a couple extra layers on days where it is a bit colder, but don’t feel like I am wearing an oversized horse blanket.
The North Face Denali uses a recycle Polartec 300 fabric. This material does very well in mild to moderate winds and keeps me warm when it is raining. The fleece almost seems to repel rainwater as a Goretex shell would. When the winds really pick up and the rain comes down hard it can get a little chilly in the Denali. Living at the Oregon Coast there have been a few days while standing out in the elements I had wished for a few more layers.
Overall the North Face Denali is a superb jacket that will meet all of your expectations. Whether hiking, biking, or taking a walk around town this jacket will repel the cold nasties and allow you to keep on rocking hard. It will soon wear like an old friend, even after countless washes. Laid back, comfortable, reliable, well made, the Denali is a jacket that Han Solo would be caught lounging around the Falcon in.
Nutter at The North Face on 11/16/2012

great, but sizing was a bit off

Northface is awesome as usual. Very warm and stylish. It is a tad below freezing and this is still all I use. I have a Northface shell which I will use on top once it hits the mid 20's. My only issue was that I have a large triclimate Northface and wanted to swap out the innner fleece. This fleece in a Large was way too big as far as too roomy to fit in the shell. It just bunched up too much in the shell when zipped up, and had too much room in the sides and belly when worn separately, but the Medium fits in just fine in all cases. I am 5 feet 10.5 inches tall and 200lbs, with an athletic build. It also fit my brother who is 6 foot and the same weight just fine.

Great Item at a Great Price

I bought the Black jacket in Large size. For some reason it feels like there are too much fabric around the shoulder area. Other than that this jacket is fantastic. I've only owned it for a few weeks now but I can see why somebody would want to pay a premium to get a fleece jacket. Very well made and the zippers are a breeze to open and close. If you've ever owned a cheap fleece jacket, you'll immediately see the difference in the zipper quality. The fabric is great and comfortable. Very good for cold/ wet weather. I have a feeling this jacket will last for a LONG time. Also I got an exceptional deal on this jacket from Sunny Sports.
De Vincent at SunnySports on 06/06/2010

Great looking jacket

Unfortunately the jacket didn't fit so I'm unable to give useful information about this product. The only thing I can say is that typically my husband wears a large so I ordered the jacket for him as a birthday gift in a size large. The jacket was entirely too big for him and had to be returned so in my opinion these jackets do run big. This little mishap did however give him the opportunity to choose a different 3 in 1 North Face coat from Sunny Sports that he liked even better. We chose that one in a medium & it fit perfectly. We were very happy with the second choice & the customer service we received.
Neatfreak at SunnySports on 11/11/2011

Beautiful

This jacket was purchased to replace the exact same North Face which was loved but stolen. My son got the first one as a Christmas present from his sisters, he is a young US Marine & really loved the jacket & he wore it often. I decided to replace it when I learned it had been stolen from his laundry. Obviously it's a great item, lousy items usually aren't pilfered; )
Anyway, he reports it is perfect in that "brand new" kind of way.. My other kids also have this particular North Face & it's perfect for multi seasons and as an extra layer in cold NE winter, thanks
Cocomom at SunnySports on 03/03/2012

Great Price!!

I bought an XL to be able to wear hooded sweatshirts underneath it, it's perfect for that. I should have bought a L for everyday use because without a sweatshirt, it's too big....very generous sizing.

I wear it during late Fall and early Winter, it keeps you nice and warm except on really windy, cold days. The breathe ability of the jacket is it's own down fall on bitter cold, windy days.

I bought last season's model and saved $40 off MSRP, great buy!!!

Overall, great jacket. Water beads up nicely on it so you don't get wet in the rain.

FANTASTIC PRODUCT

I ordered this jacket as a gift for my grandson. Looks great, works in the cold weather, fit is perfect to size ordered. I would recommend your site to anyone. In today's economy we all are trying to help each other out by saving a few dollars and trying to maintain our appearance and our country's businesses. I appreciate the fact that you offered this product at a reduced cost from what we would have paid at another site or store. Thank you for helping out your fellow neighbors in this economy. I will share your site with all my family and friends. Sandra Halyard

Comfortable coat, but zipper does not fit North Face Shell perfectly

This is a very comfortable and lightweight coat. It feels great. My only complaint is that the coat is advertised as being zip in compatible with other North Face shells. However the zipper is extremely difficult to zip into the shell. I have since learned on the internet that North Face may have changed their zippers a while ago and they are not fully compatible with older north face shells. Well I got my fleece zipped in now so I guess it will just not come out. This is a super warm coat inside a North Face shell by the way.
Andrew at Moosejaw on 01/20/2013

You Get What You Pay For --Sort Of!?

Let's face it. A must have jacket if you are between the ages 16-35. At the same time though it is not an exceptional product; many companies make similar looking and better performance jackets by incorporating more costly/advanced Polartec materials for this price point or less!! What makes it work however, is clearly the focus on fit; no one does it better than North Face. So, for walking around with friends around the city and fitting in with the group, one must pay the toll and purchase this jacket. Bottom line, you could do (and look) much worse.

MY TNF VINTAGE DENALI EXPERIENCE

I bought mine (The Original Denali) in Berkeley Outlet Store. The construction and the quality of this jacket are excellent, from inside to outside. Oooh My! ...It's so soft and comfortable. I'll recommend this jacket on a cold windy season specially Fall or anytime it gets cold and windy out there. You can use this as an insulation to your Outer Shell Jacket or any of your TNF Rain Coat/Jacket. Even in the summer coz it gets cold at night too and I tell you, you'll gonna love this!...Ooooh! Aaaah! Love it!
Rommel at The North Face on 12/12/2012

Negative Reviews:

Don't bother.

This is a decent looking jacket to wear to the mall. But, if you're looking for something that's actually usable, try something else. It's not warm enough to justify the weight and bulk. A medium thickness wool layer is just as warm, let alone a down sweater or vest. There's no way you should pay 160 bucks (or even 100) for this fleece simply because it has TNF logo.
Mike at Mountain Gear on 04/04/2012

Men's Denali jacket sheds

Had to wash the jacket 3 times, also inside out to control the shedding. It seems better now. Like to wear a lot of black so the grey fuzzies were all over my clothes. North Face does warranty the jacket so I could send to them to evaluate.
Stan the gym rat at SunnySports on 12/12/2011

Neutral Reviews:

Good, but...

A classic Denali jacket - nothing I can say in this review would be ground-breaking when it comes to performance. It is a great jacket, and everybody knows the reputation before buying. The only downfall is the fleece color. I ordered a "Deep Water Blue" Denali jacket, and matching (or so I thought) "Deep Water Blue" Denali gloves. While I love the color of the jacket, it just does NOT match the color of the gloves all that well. In fact, the gloves aren't even the same color scheme as shown on this site (blue nylon instead of black). The main problem is the gloves, but they detract from my overall opinion of the jacket and TNF in general, since one would expect them to match. I would caution against purchasing "matching" accessories, unless you are willing to accept variations in color.
Josh48383 at The North Face on 01/03/2013

Does the job, but far from best in class.

I use this jacket as a fall and spring jacket in the midwest. It does its job okay, but this type of jacket just isn't that versatile. I often feel like I'm suddenly smothering or when the wind gets through, it doesn't do a good job of warming me up.It does better as an insulation layer in extremely cold weather, but even then, if the wearer is active it doesn't breathe well, making it easy to overheat.
Jeff at Moosejaw on 02/04/2013

i purchased this last spring for my son for use this winter. i had to send the first one back because the draw string was broke. Now he has started to wear the jacket but not everyday as the weather does not call for it. He is 15 and they prefer sweatshirts. Anyway, he has just showed me that the snap on the sleeve is broken. not to happy with north face.
abc at Campmor on 12/12/2010

good, just good

Overall this jacket isnt too bad but it seemed to taken off more as a fashion jacket then its initial intended use. I purchased the apex bionic shortly after this one and have hardly worn it since. It doesnt retain heat nearly as good but yet cost more.
