Get ready to climb some long hard pitches for more than just a day with The North Face's Fulcrum 35 Backpack, a climb-worthy pack designed with a combination of sturdy ballistics nylon and lightweight automobile airbag fabric. Stash your ropes easily in the double vertical front zips and haul your bag up and over cliffs without trouble via the reinforced 3-point haul loops.

Designed for climbers, craggers, and hikers, The North Face Fulcrum 35 liter climbing pack is specifically designed to haul climbing gear up a rock face using its three-point haul loops. Despite this pack’s burliness, it’s light on the way up or down the rock thanks to car airbag fabric on the side panels that adds relentless durability. Featuring an external pocket that accommodates a 60 m x 10.5 m climbing rope, this pack also includes a trekking pole or tool loop, and a stowable hipbelt with reinforced gear loops.
Designed with climbers in mind, The North Face Fulcrum 35 Backpack features a full-front, two-way zipper down the middle for easy access to your shoes, gear, and rope, which stows away in an elongated outer pouch. Tough Cordura and ballistic nylon fabrics hold up to bushwhack approaches and multi-pitch hauling, and the three-point haul loops doubles as handy tool attachments. A molded back panel keeps things comfortably supported, and the stowable hip belt features two gear loops for racking up your cams.

I purchased this pack about a month ago to replace a 14-year-old Lowe Alpine Contour Mountain 40. This was an emotional purchase .... the day pack I was replacing had been with me on countless journeys spanning 3 continents and it performed like a champ. Until the waterproof lining rather suddently started to dry rot and shed itself all over anything I put in it. Okay, so it wasn't that emotional, but you get the point.

Perfect for the Gym | |

So far, I love this bag. For awhile, I was searching for something simple to hold my rope, harness, shoes, chalk bag, and water for my commutes to and from the gym. I ride my bike there and bag, so some kind of a duffel wasn't an option. I wound up with this bag and have been really pleased so far. I takes all the above stuff, plus plenty of smaller items, like a wallet, clif bar, and water bottle. It fits quite comfortably, and I'm totally happy wearing on my bike ride to the gym.

Day Hiking Bag | |

I use this bag for day hiking. I am 6"1. It fits snug and still adjustable with waistband. I bought a 1.5 gallon Camelbak reservoir and used the built-in holes and straps for the reservoir and hose. I can easily access the front pocket which is huge with two zippers. I put my Canon 40D and lens in the front pocket. The camelbak acts as a shock absorber for the camera against my back. I can easily access the deeper cargo area where camelback is located where I store anything like lunch to extra layers of clothing and tools. I carried the hiking poles on the outer tool strap and again I can tighten the bag with side straps. This bag is just right size for a day hike and has room for 1.5 gallons of water, lunch, snacks, a 40D, two jackets and two shirts and two shorts. and two socks.

"Solid pack with lots of space but limited organizational capacity. Would still buy it again."

| The TNF website states that the front compartment can house up to a 10.5mm x 60m rope, but that is only if you can coil your rope perfectly. However, the main compartment fits all my gear and a 60m rope. I wish there were more places to separate my gear but the voluminous main compartment holds it all. To qualify, I am a total TNF gear whore, but I still dig this pack for all my climbing gear. It has a lot of room and it is easy to stuff it to the max. It feels good on your back even while trekking up to the rock wall on a long hike. If I were in the market for a bag again, I would look for a model similar to this one. | |

Review Title | |

Nicely designed rock climbing pack. The front pocket doesn't look big enough for a rope that it is designed for, but my 10 mm has no problem fitting in there. Super burly pack material, and I really like the way this packs opens up - it is a top loader, but is opens toward you instead of away like traditional top loaders. Very comfortable suspension, and seems tough enough to handle be hauled up a pitch or two...
