Beyond my expectations
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I'm a minimalist who, unfortunately, ends up with a lot of junk I have to carry around, and am constantly on the lookout for a backpack which will hold a lot of stuff and still look and feel small, and this one does it. I liked the look of the big shot (also by North Face), but upon seeing it in person found it to be too big, bulky, and mannish (I'm a 5'2 girl). I decided instead on the hot shot. And this bag is amazing. My first impression was that it feels STURDY, and water-resistant (as summer is just starting, I won't be able to test that out just yet). I have a 13" macbook, and I was worried that it would have too much jostle space in this back pack which holds "up to 17" laptops", but it fits in snug as a bug, no movement at all, especially when cinched in with the provided snap, and rests several inches off the ground when the backpack is sitting; nothing is gonna touch my computer, I can tell. The front compartment is organized so that some stuff can sit at the bottom and the rest in pockets half-way up, so there's a better distribution and the backpack stays thinner. There are also two (count 'em, TWO) cinches on the sides for making the bag slim, which I love. The daisy chains on the front are really sturdy. Completely loaded up I can lift the bag by one of these small bits of fabric and there's no budge of stitching what-so-ever. These were one of my main draws to the big shot, but I thought they looked ugly all the way up. Three is plenty for me (All I can ever think of holding at once would be a water bottle and maybe a pair of water shoes) and looks much nicer. One thing I like as some-what of a back pack connoisseur is the way the left cup-holder is designed. It's got the mesh like the other side but then there is a separate, smaller compartment inside that that is grey like the rest of the backpack. This ends up feeling pleasantly snug and secure when a small bottle is placed in it. You could also probably put a small item in it like a phone or ipod and because of the fabric inside, it would not be visible through the mesh, but would be very readily accessible. I don't know, I just enjoy it. : ) On the other hand, the two bottom cinches go right over the cup-holders so if you (like me) like keeping your bag cinched tight, this makes them either inaccessible, or hard to get a bottle in and out of. I remedied this by getting a water bottle that can attach elsewhere via D-ring, and that works for me, (and looks pretty cool too). My only qualm is this cup-holder issue. It's completely not enough to lower the bags rating (like I said, it was easily remedied), but It seems like they could have run the cinches behind the cup-holders with a little ingenuity. Also the bag is very long. I'm 5'2, and I wouldn't say that it's length is bad, necessarily, but just different. I've only had it a little while, but every time I put it on I can't help but notice how long it is - several inches longer than any bag I've had before. But, like I said, this helps keep the front pocket organized, and keep the laptop several inches from the outside world on all sides, and I appreciate that. All-in-all, beyond my expectations (and they were quite high). This is a great bag, and comes with the North Face lifetime repair warranty, which you just can't beat. | |

Great Campus Pack | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I enjoy carrying this thing around campus. It is stylish yet functional. Some days I have to pack everything in other days I have a lighter load. The compression straps on the sides allow for great variation in how the pack holds my books, laptop, and other odds and ends. I can cinch everything down and keep it close to my back make the load feel better (a great help when trekking across campus all day). I bought a Nalgene Water Bladder also which fits in the universal sleeve and has a spot for the hose to run through the top (very nice for long bike rides or hiking). Like BJ said this pack is just the right size. It is nice having two bottle holders (mesh) as well as the daisy chain where things can easily be hung. I love this bag and am so glad I purchased it. Oh and one more note - my laptop is 15.4" (standard sized laptop) and it fits snug (as in perfectly) I mention this because I didn't see any specific dimensions on this and felt like I was taking a chance of my laptop not fitting, however it fits very well. | |

| Great backpack. It has straps on the sides to make it slimmer if there isnt that much in your bag, but can loosen up as you stuff more crap in it. I was sort of disappointed that my 15.4" laptop was sort of a tight squeeze into the laptop partition, and that about a little above 1/4 of the laptop was left exposed. Dont get me wrong, it is still secured in the back, its just that I would have expected a deeper laptop partition.. Overall, its a great bag, and looks badass as well. A definite recommendation to my friends, but I wouldnt do that because then they would have the same bag I have. :) Get it!(unless your a friend of mine, then get another model) | |

My first North Face backbag, and I love it.
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I wanted to purchase a backbag for roaming around the city of San Francisco and decided on North Face after much research. O' boy, I have never wear a backpack that is this comfortable before. Even with my big laptop, the bag was so comfortable that I would not mind walking miles in them. Plus, the optional hydration pack compartment will come in handy next time I go mountain biking. Altrec is the only place out there that is selling it for $54. Yeah, it's from previous season, but the newly added padded compartment that is featured in the new version does not help me what-so-ever. So I'm going to take the $20 saving here instead. I am a happy camper | |

Yes I recommend this without reservations

| I use my Hot Shot Daypack exclusively for hauling books back and fourth to classes Although in my dreams I fantasize using it to hike across less paved and more scenic grounds. This backpack is very sturdy since it is always full of heavy text books. It rests well over my shoulder the padding is excellent. The material is very durable and stands up to whatever abuse I have so far inflicted upon it. In fact my Hot Shot looks like I bought it just yesterday. I give it the highest possible ratings and would recommend it to both students and those fortunate and sensible enough to once in a while take a hike and smell the flowers. | |

Very nice back pack not quite as big as i anticipated but it will hold a lot i think its a bit skinnier and longer rather than as wide as i had initially anticipated but still an awesome pack to carry everything including your laptop. I carry a 14.1 inch work laptop and it has tons of space to spare i know my 15 inch fits nicely but i dont think a 17 inch laptop will fit in this those are pretty huge. all around a great day pack/ work load carrier.

"A sick looking backpack that has everything I need"
| Rating: | ![]() |
| The pack is the perfect size for what i need being a college student. The second pocket has nice compartments to hold your little tools and what not. The only thing i was somewhat disappointed about was the padded laptop sleeve only has padding at the bottom which is very solid and the padding that is for your back, if it had some facing the inside where my books go it would be perfect. Oh yeah its really comfortable, it has nice back padding and pretty good padding for the shoulders. | |

A great backpack | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| My experience with my new Hot Shot is great. The bag is very comfortable and it protects my back, even if I have a lot of books to carry. It has a lot of room for books and other materials and the laptop has its own compartment. So, I don't need a separate laptop cover anymore. I also really like the space for bottles on the outside of the backpack. Finally, it looks slim and fashionable, even if jam-packed. I would definitely recommend it! | |

Awesome Backpack - way more hip than my briefcase
| Rating: | ![]() |
| Business Exec's - Lose the old school briefcase I have a different backpack for specific outdoor activities and I have always used a breifcase for work. Why? As a business executive I travel to multiple locations throughout the day and I am delighted with my Northface Hot Shot in black. Plenty of room to hold all items but not cavernous to where I am searching up to my elbows for an item. Great organizing area in front - perfect bag. | |
