Men's Clothing > Fleece & Base LayersRated: 5 by 8 reviews.

REI

XTC lightweight long underwear bottoms combine bamboo-derived charcoal with polyester for an environmentally friendly, high-performance base layer.

  • Polyester and bamboo-derived charcoal polyester blend offers moisture-, odor- and UV-management naturally without the need of chemicals
  • Polyester yarns are embedded with charcoal from carbonized bamboo; the highly porous nature of carbon helps wick and disperse moisture, drying quickly
  • Bamboo charcoal naturally removes odor and particles from fabric—just like your water filter—and won't wash out
  • Naturally UV-resistant fabric with a UPF 50+ rating shields skin from the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays
  • Bamboo is a highly renewable resource that is easily grown without fertilizers and pesticides
  • Flatseam construction is soft and nonchafing next to skin
  • Machine washable

I wore these as my base layer on a recent ascent of Kilmanjaro and they performed great.

Rating:*****
I wore these as my base layer on a recent trip to Africa and ascent of Mt Kilimanjaro and they performed great. I am 5' 10" 165 lbs and comfortably wore a size medium. The flat lock seams and bamboo technology worked as advertised. I wore these under both my soft shell pants and gortex outerwear with no chaffing and there was no odor even after several days wear. I am climbing Aconcagua later this year and these will be my base layer again. I would recommend these to anyone traversing several climates on the same trip like I had on Kilimanjaro or anyone purchasing them for mountaineering.

Good product

Rating:*****
I've used these as a base layer for snowshoeing for the past three years. They've worked very well. I've never felt overheated or cold with them on even after being out snowshoeing for 3 hours. The only fault, which is minor, is they can snag or pill. After three years of use and wash it isn't bad and not noticeable from the outside. I see it more on the inside. It doesn't effect the performance at all. Overall the construction is made well and I'll be using them for many years.

Comfortable, Lightweight, Get The Job Done!

These do exactly what they are supposed to, keep your lower body warm without adding much weight or bulk. I used these on a week long ski trip, and they are perfect as a baselayer. I layered them with some North Face fleece pants and Columbia ski pants and was never too hot or too cold. They also wick moisture, so if it does get a little toasty you stay dry as well!

Exactly what he wanted

Rating:*****
I can hardly get my husband too take these off! He's a fireman, and he wears them under his gear to stay warm when he's out in the winter months. They fit a bit big, if anything. He has the UA version, and he likes these much better!

amazing thermals

Rating:*****
yeah these babies kept my ass and legs warm during a rainy weekend hiking trip, the only downside is when they are wet they tend to weight a ton, but for the warmth they are well worth it
