I love this jacket!!! It's versatile enough to wear around town as a casual jacket and look cute, but it also holds its own in the backcountry. I recently used this during a 2-week backpacking trip in the Canadian Rockies - we had weather that ranged from 30 degrees to 80 degrees, and this was the only jacket I took with me - which ended up being the perfect choice! I felt it was perfect for those cold nights and mornings, and occasionally I wore a long sleeve underneath for some extra warmth, which fit perfectly underneath it without being too bulky. We also caught a bit of rain, and my rain jacket (the Marmot Precip - another great product!) fits really well over top this. I had gloves, but the pockets of this jacket are also really warm, and I liked that they zipped up as well. This jacket is kind of a smooth stretchy material (not a hard shell, and not fleece like their Denali jackets, which attracts too much dog hair in my house!) Its taken a beating with me, brushing up against trees and brush, bunched up in my pack and thrown on the ground, etc but hasn't snagged, and it seems to brush off dirt and stuff pretty easily, so I think it still looks brand new! I am 5'6'' and 145 lbs, the size small was perfect for me. Highly recommend!

I needed a replacement for an REI jacket I wore to death, but they stopped making it. I have been looking for a while and have ordered/returned other jackets, but this one is perfect. The outside looks great and doesn't pill, and it's soft inside where it matters. I bought an XS and it is very form fitting and flattering. I am a 34 in the chest, so I debated getting a small, but am happy with the XS. The stretchiness makes it very comfortable, and I have a full range of motion in the shoulders, which is important to me. I can wear a thin long sleeve shirt under it just fine. The only negative is that the sleeves are a little long, but I think that will be nice to cover my hands when I wear it hiking in chilly weather. I am comfortable wearing it in 50-60 degree weather walking/sitting around outside, and if I am more active could probably wear it in upper the 40s and be fine. It's also thin so it will be a good layering item in the winter. Very happy with this purchase.

Casual and comfy

Overall I really like this jacket. The material is smooth on the outside and generally fleecey soft (with some variation) on the inside. There are two things worth noting, though. The upper arms are quite generous, to the point where they sort of look like bat wings when you lift your arms. You can kind of see it in the picture above, but on me (I'm 5'2" 95 lbs and ordered the XS) it's more pronounced. The other thing is the stitching. The whole jacket sits to the left on me. Right around the belly button the zipper just starts skewing left right up to the neck, where you can really tell (and feel it). This is a quality issue; I was hoping for better from TNF. However, it's a solid jacket and it doesn't make it any less comfortable, so I'll be keeping it for camping as well as running around town. The green is a great color!

Good jacket for the money

I love this jacket! This is my first North Face Jacket and so far so good. I ordered an xl hoping it would be big enough to layer and it is. I think it might be a little too big. My last jacket (columbia) was a large. I had tried on the calentito NF at the store and went off of the size of that which was a bit snug with the large. Which is why I ordered the xl in this momentum jacket. The length of this jacket is a bit too long as well as the arm length. My main concern was that this jacket didn't make noise when I move around in it and it doesn't. It's light and very comfortable. I am happy with this purchase. I will be buying more NF gear in the future.

Great jacket, works year-round in CA - I've had this jacket for almost a year and have used it pretty much nonstop. I got it specifically for running and bought it on sale in a weird periwinkle blue color, but wear it all the time with "regular" clothes, even though it clashes brutally. If I had it to do again, I'd get it in a basic color like white or black. But the fit is fantastic and the weight is perfect. The extra chest pocket for your MP3 player comes in handy -- I wear my iPod with an armband, but use that pocket to stash an ID and emergency money.

Nice Jacket

Very light weight. You can feel cold air go right through once you step outside, but that makes it nice and breathable for outdoor workouts. I'll probably just wear under amour underneath until warmer weather arrives. I bought it to use for schooling jumpers (horseback riding), so the performance fit and stretch is awesome. It's a flattering jacket. I do not like the stitching of the seams on the inside. It feels weird on my arms and annoys me. But then again, I'm used to the Raschel. I'm 5'6", 140 lbs, average build and the medium fits great!

Great Jacket!

I purchased this jacket in two colors....and absolutely love it! I am using it for riding (dressage). It is stretchy and moves -- while retaining a nice, neat shape. It also does not hold horse hair the way that fleeces do. I am 5'10" tall, and wear a size 6 in most clothes. I wear a size medium in this jacket. I have long arms....and this jacket is quite generous in terms of sleeve length. Love it! Highly recommend.

I have bought 3 of these TNF Momentum jackets for my wife over the years - 2 in black and just bought her the Magic Magenta color for Valentine's Day. She loves this jacket - it is well suited to the climate we have in the SF Bay Area. It is a bit more "stretchy" than the TNF Bionic jacket. My wife wears this jacket to play tennis in all the time.

favorite year round jacket!

living in san francisco i find i wear this jacket almost everday. it is very comfortable, fits great, and has a nice cut.

it layers great underneath a down vest in cold weather, and the monkey thumbs are a nice added feature for extra warmth and comfort.

it is the perfect travel companion - great on the plane and pretty much everywear you need a layer.

Extraordinary jacket!

Although this jacket is a little pricey, it is worth every penny. I am a North Face fan and this is my favorite of all. I have gotten so many compliments. The fit is great and it is soooo comfortable, I have not taken it off! All of my other fleeces are not being worn because this jacket is the BEST!

Negative Reviews:

Not as Pictured

To the other reviewer's point, I ordered the Weimaraner Brown which is also pictured as the prior style, but the jacket that arrived is of the new style as well. Like the other reviewer, I prefer the prior style so this was a huge disappointment... I suppose if you prefer the new style, then you're in luck. Once again, TNF has used inaccurately 'Photoshopped' images to depict their products. You see this mentioned in more and more reviews recently and it is extremely frustrating. As a consumer, it should be a reasonable expectation to obtain a complete and accurate depiction of an item from the MANUFACTURER'S website, especially one the caliber of TNF! 1 star for the overall purchase experience, 3 stars for the jacket itself, but as I'm not a fan of the new style it will be returned. I've purchased many TNF products over the past several years and while overall I'm a fan of their products, if I continue encountering this same frustration, I may have to begin exploring other brands. At least maybe then I'll be more confident I know what I'll actually be getting...

Style has changed

Last year, I purchased this jacket in black and absolutely loved it. Two weeks ago I ordered another in blue and it's not the same jacket. There is now a front and back yoke, there are plackets on the pockets and the sleeves have a 1 1/2 inch cuff. (The photo on the website, as of today, still shows the earlier style.) The new cut looks boxy on me, so I returned it. The earlier style had clean lines that I preferred.
