Awesome jacket | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
I bought this jacket in April of this year for skiing and backpacking. I also purchased a Denali to use as a Zip in. I love both jackets and they are perfect if used for what they were designed for. They both have pit zips. I used the Mountain Light Jacket on a five day backpacking trip in the Weminuche Wilderness area of Colorado last July. I only took the Mountain Light jacket (with The North Face rain pants) to use as a coat and for rain protection. It rained every day and the jacket performed perfectly. I never got hot or overheated while hiking in rainstorms as the jacket breathes extremely well. I never got wet either. I did not take my Denali with me due to weight and volume. I only got chilled one night when we got caught on the top of the Continental Divide and had to hunker down due to lightening and lack of a flat place to put our tents. The temperature went into the 40s with a strong wind but it was ok. Buy the jacket if you want a technical, high performance jacket. I am very picky and I am very pleased. If you are going to get into extremely cold weather, put the zip in Denali and it is second to none.

AWESOME JACKET | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I purchased this jacket last year and I am extremely pleased with it and since have been an advocate for it. You can ball it up to nearly nothing and then pull it out, and it its as though you never did so. When it rains, I walk several hundred yards with the hood on and as I enter a buikding, people are standing around waiting for the rain to stop (its that bad!!!) and I pull my coat off, and Im DRY AS A BONE. They look at my jacket with amazement!!! When its chilly out, I can wear this jacket without the liner, zip it up all of the way and when breathing into the jacket, I stay very comfortable. I own the lighter fleece liner for the jacket and its too warm... In extreme conditions, rain, snow, 40+ mph winds, wind chill nearing 0 degrees... when the jacket is sealed off at the waist and hooded up... with good gloves... I was extremely confortable. BUY IT!!! Only complaint... Ive worn it so much since Ive had it the past year, I wonder how long it will last for the money I paid. Its in excellent shape, but I look at it and wonder. | |

Great Jacket | |

| This is my first North Face jacket and couldn't be happier. I also have a Arc'teryx Theta Ar jacket and the mountain light does a better job for half the frice. Ive read alot of reviews knocking the mtn. light for the zipper...i mean yeah there is fabric covering it but it doesn't make it impossible to zip...the arcteryx gortex zippers are twice as hard to zip and doesn't look as good. Also the goretex on the mountain light jacket is very comfortable even wearing a t-shirt. Unlike the Theta ar which the fabric is so stiff and really just not comfortable on skin. The breathability is above average and pit zips make it even better. This jacket is the all purpose, take it on the appalachian trail or to just take the dog for a walk on a cool day! Looks kind of blah on the website but very nice fit, im 6' 170 and a medium fits great, like it was made for me! | |

only lasted 13 yrs | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I finally had to retire my Mountain Light. I'm very disappointed because it only lasted 13 years. ;) It's still functional and waterproof but it was starting to look its age. Some fading, a failed stitch in the liner, and a failed stitch in the waist "powder" drawstring (which isn't a feature anymore). I live in New England and have worn this thing hiking, biking, skiing, and every time it rains. I have literally worn it almost every day of every winter for the past 13 years. It's been crammed in packs and has absorbed some nasty falls while skiing. The best thing about it is that it is useful year round. It's not too heavy to wear in a summer rainstorm and it's waterproof/windproof enough to be used as an external layer in temps well below zero F. I just bought another one. I hope it lasts as long as the first. | |

my best jacket | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
this is my best hardshell jacket. the goretex is unbeatable - it's my snowboard, rain, and general cold day jacket. it has some pretty cool features, like a malleable metal wire running along the upper edge of the hood, so that you can shape the hood to keep it out of your eyes no matter what the condition (glasses, goggles, etc.)

Great gear | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| Optimized for mountaineering but suitable for a range of outdoor activities, The North Face Mountain Light Jacket combines the best in durable waterproof and breathable technology with a lightweight profile that's equally at home backpacking, traveling and skiing. This practical design saves nearly 300 grams of weight over The North Face Mountain Guide Jacket without sacrificing key backcountry features. Up top is a fully adjustable hood that accommodates a helmet and also detaches on sunny afternoons. Along the chest area are core vent pockets that can be opened or zippered shut depending on your internal thermostat. While The North Face Mountain Light Jacket doesn't offer the stretch performance of top shells and parkas, it keeps you covered without pushing outdoor budgets beyond your grasp. | |

Mt. Light | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
Just got it in late fall '08. Since then I have used it for skiiing, walking the dog on cold wet days, hiking and even going to work. Forget what the reviews of older Mt. Light jackets say. This new model has pit zips, velcro cuffs, removable hood, great pockets, etc... I am very pleased with the protection it offers, the comfortable fit, and how good it looks.

Northface Mens Mountain light jacket fantastic in all respects
| Rating: | ![]() |
| This jacket is the answer to what I was looking for. Light, comfortable, wind and water proof. When the temp is above zero and I am moving about and I have a fleece vest on it is warm enough for me. I also bought a denali fleece jacket that zips into this jacket and really won't need it until it is below zero here in Minnesota. Too warm. So I need to buy a light fleece for most of the winter months. So now I can throw away most of what is in my closet as this one outer shell, vests and fleece liners provide all that I need all year long. | |

So good I bough another one

I bought my first Mountain Light in 1994. It served me well for many years. Saved my life in a blizzard on Longs Peak in Colorado. Never had any complaints about this jacket. It worked wonderfully for 14 years. The liner became damaged and some of the seams got damaged and leaked water. It was sent back to TNF for repairs.

Versatile jacket! | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
This thing can really get the job done in any conditions. If you have a good fleece zipped into it, it'll keep you warm. If it gets hot, you can take the fleece out and open up the vents to cool off. If the rain starts feeling, you can through on the hood and trust the gore tex to keep you bone dry. Tough material, and packs down to a pretty good size. I found it to fit true to size (I'm 6' and 160 lbs and a small fits me great even with some layering underneath.) Highly recommended!

The three stars reviews have it right

I bought this last year replacing a Mountain Light Jacket that I had bought in 96 along with a Denali that I still wear thanks to some TLC provided free of charge by the North Face warranty department. Its zip in compatible so there was no problem there which was nice.

"I wanted to love it." | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I wanted to love it, but I couldn't. I like the feel of the jacket - what with the Gore-Tex and the whatever the liner is. I didn't like the elastic in the cuffs and the fact that the pocket zipper got stuck on the pocket liner material - but I could live with that. I sent it back because of the sleeves. Usually, TNF jackets fit my monkey arms better than any other brand, but the sleeves on this one ride up when I reach up. I settled on a Marmot shell with "Angel-Wing Movement" rather than the Mountain Light with its "Penguin-Wing Movement". | |
