Altrec

Keep skiing, snowboarding and winter camping outings fun and comfortable with the 600+ down fill warmth of the Nuptse Jacket. You'll be hard-pressed to find a better-designed kid's jacket on the market, which makes sense when you consider that this Nuptse is a scaled-down version of one of the most successful adult jackets in the outdoor industry. The Nuptse is Zip-in compatible, which means that you can zip it into other shell garments made by The North Face. This Zip-in feature isn't mandatory in foul weather because the shell is made with waterproof and breathable two-ply HyVent™ Palisade 4.1 fabric, but you might want to augment the two-ply protection with something a little heavier for snowboarding and icy sliding. The 600+ down fill is high-quality, lightweight insulation designed to keep kids comfortable through a range of temperatures, making the Nuptse ideal for extended ski and snowboard school programs.

Features:

  • Full-length zipper with interior storm flap
  • Garment stows in pocket
  • Our most versatile down jacket.
  • Reinforced stitching in high-stress areas
  • Sewn-through construction
  • Two zippered handwarmer pockets

Full of 600-fill goose down, this jacket doesn't let him lose any body heat while a DWR coating prevents the downy insulation from getting wet during mildly damp conditions.

Features:

  • Blowing snow or damp nights don't soak the down - a durable water repellent finish quickly sheds moisture
  • Cold drafts are kept out by the full length zip's interior stormflap and adjustable cuff tabs with Velcro closures
  • ID label
  • Surround him with the best natural insulator – 600-fill goose down keeps warmth close
  • Zip- and snap-in compatible
  • Zippered handwarmer pockets pockets and chest pocket; can be stowed in own chest pocket

Great jacket, best price, awesome service and delivery

Rating:*****

I had bought this jacket in black size L for my 12yrold son, who weighs approx 90lbs. it was a little snug and knew he would not be able to wear it past this season so I bought the XL. It is a little roomy and he thinks it is cooler to have it that way. The black jacket looks very shiny in the picture but it is not so, it is the same finish as the other jackets shown. Great everyday jacket in the coldest Ca. weather and for Ca. mountains.
The customer service was easy and friendly, price was the best I found and standard free delivery was faster than expected, I ordered on monday night and received it friday morning.

LOVIN' THE NUPTSE

Rating:*****

My boys LOVE their nuptse jackets!!!! I agree that the only way this coat could be better- is by adding a hood. Parker, my 4 year old loves to wear a hood in cold weather and was bummed when he wore this coat for the first time and started looking for a hood! They love its fluffy softness and stay out for HOURS as it is VERY warm!!!! My son usually wears a size 8 shirt and he has the medium, and it is perfect on him. Our 4 year old is a size 5-6 and the small gives him some room to grow. He'll probably still wear it next year.GREAT COAT!!!

Great purchase..

Rating:*****
I bought this for my daughter. It is extremely well tailored, and I didn't realize the Hyvent shell was waterproof so there ws no need for a shell. She has worn it pretty much on every trip we've done. It compresses down to nothing and the inner pocket is also a stuff sack. One thing for nit-pickers - the construction is sew-through (not baffle) so you are may encounter cold spots at the seams. (personally I have yet to find a baffle sewn down jacket in the US) However practially this does not pose a problem if you have a sweater underneath.

My kids LOVE their new Nuptse Jackets!!!

Rating:*****
The North Face Nuptse Jacket is a great jacket for the winter! It has an insulation of goose down, which keeps you really warm. The jacket is comfortable and fits true to size. I purchased a new Nuptse for my son this year...his last one lasted for 2 years. He had to have another. His brother had to have one too!!! They wear very well and are easy to clean. Just throw it in your washing machine and tumble dry! They are stylish and my kids wear it to school everyday!

AWESOME

Rating:*****

This coat is almost too warm! The only way this coat could get better for kids is if it had a hood. It's not like a typical "stiff" winter coat and lets them move around freely. WARNING though:: My son wears an 8/10 shirt, I'm glad I listened to reviews, buy a size UP. I ordered the large (14/16) and it is a tad big but fits well. The Medium is definately more like a 6/7 or 7/8 fit. Trust me on that, but it's a GREAT BUY!!

Good Jacket

Rating:****

I got this jacket for my 6 year old son who is disabled. He has a motor difficulties and I am always looking for lightweight but warm winter clothes so his mobility is the least bit hampered. It is the perfect choice in our opinion. It is a nice, warm jacket with little "bulk" to get in the way. If I were ordering it for a "typically developing child," I would order one size larger than usual just so it would last a couple of seasons.

AWESOME

Got this for my 6 yr old and its almost TOO warm if you can believe it! It looks fantastic and the orange is really nice so I can always keep a great eye on him. WARNING though the sizing is way off:: he wears a size 8/10 shirt and I got the large (14/16) because of reviews. I'm glad I did. It's a bit big but not by much. I'd say the Medium would be more like a 7/8.

Love this jacket!

Rating:*****

I bought my son the aconcagua which is only 550 fill last year. I regretted it after I checked out the nuptse I got my daughter. So I made sure to get him the nuptse in the next size. I bought a bunch if stuff through Backcountry and not only did they ship it free and FAST, they were fantastic about returns. I will definitely order through them again and tell all my friends about them!!

Warm, light, durable and versatile jacket

Rating:*****
My son has been wearing the Nuptse jacket since he was 4 and we continue to buy him new Nuptse sizes as he grows. This is a very versatile jacket which is light to wear but warm in cold temperatures; can be worn for skiing, snow boarding, ice skating, hiking or just casually. It is a great value at its regular price, but if you can get it on sale, nothing beats it.

The kid loves it!

Rating:*****
My 9 year old son wanted the puffy jacket like my cold weather Nuptse. I was happy to oblige knowing that he would be warm in the coldest of weather. Now all I say is "I know it's cold, put on your jacket and get out there!" The usual NF quality applies here, nice fit, nice fill, looks good. Nice jacket. I wish we could get 2 years out of it.

Negative Reviews:

Not the same Nuptse

Rating:**

I have bought and been happy with 4 or 5 mens' Nuptses over the years. And I was happy with the small child's Nuptse I bought for my daughter 3 years ago. I just rec'd her new coat yesterday and my happiness with this coat has diminished. As others have commented, the loft is less than it was on my other coats, and loft = warmth. I called NF and they would not tell me the fill content for "proprietary" reasons, which I took as code for cutting corners, but refusing to say by how much. And they discontinued the waist drawstring which we all know can be tightened for additional warmth. It's just gone. NF had no answer to why it was gone, but my guess is that they thought they were saving a nickel and no one would notice. I'm debating hard whether to return this - I've been pleased with this site - but my daughter likes the color, doesn't care about the hem string -she's 11 - but whether I do or don't, I'm going to look a little harder at other jackets next time. I did not get a warm, fuzzy feeling dealing with NF through the purchase and post purchase process. I guess business must be good.

The New Trendy North Face

Rating:*

It was a sad day for me to come to find North Face apparel at Macy's and Nordstroms two major giants who have nothing to do with the great outdoors. I have been wearing North Face goods for the past 15 years and part of the appeal was the exclusivity of the product, that this was not your mainstream brand. I enjoyed going strictly to our local outdoor/camping store for my North Face apparel, but now it seems that anyone with little appreciation for the history of the brand can now purchase it as if they were buying Nike. I should have know something was fishy when I went to their website sometime ago and there jacket lineup was completly different. The jackets looked less technical and more fashion concious. As if they were going to model down some runway. I have bought my last North Face item and I am now searching for the next best thing.

What happened to the Nuptse Jackets?

Rating:**

My whole family has always loved The North Face. When my son outgrew his old black Nuptse jacket, I ordered him a new one for Christmas. When it arrived, I opened it only to be disappointed by the thinness of the jacket. What happened to all the "stuffing"? My husband assumed that once it was out of the package, it would "fluff up". No such luck. My son is happy with it but it looks and feels like a lightly padded windbreaker. Strange.

Disappointed

Rating:**

I didn't hear anything about the size and I ordered based on the measurements - my son's jacket Just Fits - if not too small. I was a bit disappointed! He was so happy to get it that he wore it right away but I don't think I'd order online again b/c the measurements that they have don't match the actual size that is sent.

Girl's Nuptse

Rating:**

I agree with Tanner review. I bought this coat for my daughter b/c it had the most down fill compared to the others.
I was surprised that the coat is so thin and months later, it still is. I've seen the "Greenland" which has a lesser down fill but appears to be much thicker and warmer.

Not the same Nuptse

Rating:**

I wrote a longer, negative review which was never posted, so I'll try a shorter one. The loft on the Nuptse is not as great as in previous years, and there is NO hem or waist drawstring. None of this is good.

Won't buy another one of these until they put back the draw string in the bottom of the coat.

Rating:***
I have purchased about a dozen North Face coats and never been disappointed until now. My son had the same coat that was made a few years ago and loved it. It has seen better days so we ordered him a new one. What I didn't think to check since its the same coat they have made in the past is to check its options. The new coat doesn't have any pull cords in the bottom of the coat to cinch it closed. My son is a stick and the bottom of his coat is about twice the size it needs to be so all that cold air just rolls right up the inside not keeping him as warm. Why would They take out this feature when it is in the old coat and every other coat they make. I would have sent it back but my so

Shipping to Lower 48 only is sad

Rating:***

I completely do NOT understand why companies will not free ship to AK. The postage is the exact same as the lower 48. This was a gift to my son as I wouldn't ever order from a company that didn't free ship to AK and HI also.

That being said, the XXS fits my 23 month old son. I am not sure the 4/5 is accurate sizing. This coat seems to be very warm as he is quickly overheated in the car wearing it. It is stylish and cut long enough for our liking. I would consider ordering this brand coat in the future. It also isn't too bulky to fit under the carseat straps.

Make sure of sizing before you order

Rating:***
Very lightweight, warm for something that is not a classic puffy jacket. Disappointed that the sleeves were not long enough, especially for growing boys! There are a few other styles of The North Face that are more generous in the sleeves. If your child's arms are not on the short side, look into the other styles of jackets.

No hood?

Rating:***
what's the thinking re: leaving off a hood? I was about to order for my son when I noticed. Balaclavas are great, but don't provide the same protection from rain/sleet as a waterproof hood, nor are they as warm as a blaclava combined with a waterproof, down-filled hood! What am I missing here?
