After years of wearing partially water-resistant shells, you wake up one morning and finally figure out that to fight the elephant storm outside you’re going to need much burlier artillery. The North Face Realization Jacket comes equipped with fully taped seams and completely waterproof Gore-Tex fabric. A removable helmet-compatible hood adapts to any conditions and a zip-in powder skirt blocks the barrage from underneath. Core vents release excess heat when the temperature rises above freezing and plenty of pockets carry all the snow amo you need to attack the mountain.

Ok But needs some modifications

Rating:***
At first glance this seems like a worthwhile jacket but there are a few minor details that made me return it for a different model. The "core vents" are so small that they are worthless. The vents only open about a half inch and the flap that covers the zipper of the super small opening blocks it as well. The Napoleon pocket frustrated me as well. The flap covering the zipper is facing the wrong way! This makes it very difficult just to get your hand in. The hand pockets are also covered with a flap facing the wrong way. With the flap facing forward it is more difficult to access the zipper and put your hand in. Also, when skiing in deep pow, snow will collect in the flap on the zipper unless of course you always ski switch. The pant a lock system seems like a good idea but you basically have to connect the jacket and pants before getting dressed unless you are Houdini or have someone to help you reach the back loop and zipper. If you want to take off your jacket in the lodge or drop a deuce you are back to having someone help you get dressed. I think a full zip together interface like Burton's would be easier to join and also provide a better seal. How about a pass window holder? The removable hood is sweet and adjusts to a helmet or hat easily. Sometimes I wonder if the designers actually ski and test these or do they just walk around the streets of San Fran looking cool.
