Mountain Gear (Fall 2008)

When you're looking to rip up the trail on an overnight trip, the Skareb 55 from The North Face is your best bet for low pack weight and uncompromised stowing capacity. Light but tough, the 7075 aluminum frame with X-2 suspension sports an E-VAP back panel and shoulder harness paired with a roll-top main cavity and a myriad of pockets so that you never run out of stowing options.

Features:

  • Keep your H2O in the water-bottle keeper in the right side zip pocket
  • Keep your pack in place with a direct-inject, no-slip lumbar zone and an active-cut, contoured hipbelt with a 3-point closure
  • Minimize your pack size with the quick-pull front cord compression system and the dual side compression
  • Rough and tumble is what this pack was built for with 7075 aluminum stays and an X-2 suspension system
  • Secure your supplies beneath the roll-top closure, and store any little essentials in the zippered top accessory pocket
  • Stability and low weight go hand-in-hand with a lightweight, perforated PE sheet that stabilizes the load and stiffens the pack
  • Stay cool and less clammy with a breathable E-VAP foam back panel and split contoured shoulder harness
  • Stow any extra tools on the front tool loop, in the large front mesh pocket, or in the zippered, left side pocket with rain cover divider and included rain cover while you carry your trekking poles in the trekking pole loops

A mininalists dream

Rating:*****
When I decided to go minimalist I looked for a pack that wasn't skimpy and yet was light weight. This is it. Internal X frame, that hugs your back and allows you to move easily over rough terrain. It is based upon the [...] sack principle and is easy to load. While it lacks water bottle holders on the side, it has adequate room for a bladder and includes a pocket for your bite valve to come over your shoulder. Multiple adjustment straps are within easy reach to allow you to adjust your load while on the trail. It also includes a rain cover, a plus for those days when the coated nylon is just not enough. A great buy at the current price.

Fantastic Minimalist Pack

Rating:****
This pack works well for 1 night trips, expedition type day treks, or even just a full day hike. Light enough for day packs, yet large and tough enough for extended trips. I have used mine several times so far; Heavy day loads....mineral exploration trips, carrying food, H20, H20 filter, rain gear, first aid, extra layers, hat, gloves, saw, knife, gold pan, pick, shovel, ore bucket, etc, etc. I have also done an overnighter. Works well for the minimalist at heart. Bottom line: This pack can handle the load! A fantastic choice for a wide range of activities. The capacity is there, but it can be tightened up by all of the compression straps. Highly adjustable as well. Get one!!

AWSOME TRANSACTION FOR AN AWSOME PACK

Travel often and hike/camp even more. Bag met all of my expectations. Im a minimalist. One bag needs to hold everything i require. This is that bag period.
