At a glance the Slingshot doesn't look any wider or longer than the similarly sized Jester, Sweeper and Vault day packs from The North Face--and it isn't. The reason that the Slingshot offers more space is that it has over two inches of extra expandable width along the sides, giving it a carrying capacity of 2,000 cubic inches instead of the standard 1,850. The North Face also attached side compression straps to the front trampoline system so you can cinch down that extra width when you don't need it. All that extra load potential and control adds an additional five ounces to this pack compared to the slightly smaller designs, but you're not going to notice a difference when you're hauling around eighteen credits worth of reading material. If you're staying late at the office or library, the Slingshot also has plenty of reflective elements, so you have a better chance of being seen by passing motorists (or your workaholic boss).
Comfort and organization make thid day pack ideal for all-day adventures on campus and in the woods The North Face Slingshot is well suited for a long day hike or a trek into the urban jungle. The cavernous main compartment has enough room for a hefty load of books or all your day hike essentials. As a school book bag the full-length front pocket with organizer panel is perfect for all your classroom essentials. The removable hipbelt and adjustable sternum strap with safety whistle are standard issue on all TNF hiking backpacks. The Slingshot has a unique front trampoline system that incorporates a bungee cord and compression flap. The compression flap makes it easier to store larger items, like a book or binder, on the front of the pack.
Built to withstand the daily grind of campus life, the Slingshot backpack from The North Face features a large main compartment that's just perfect for books and binders. Equipped with a stitched foam back panel for carrying comfort, this pack is loadable, stylish, and extremely functional.

Great Daypack | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
This North face pack is a really great item if you are looking for a quality daypack. I like that it has two side water bottle holders that adjust to a wide nalgene bottle or a real skinny bottle by pulling the cinch cord. It also has a cinch cord in the face of the pack so you can store a jacket or another item of clothing. The shoulder straps are lightly padded and feel comfortable when there is weight in the pack. The only thing that I would have liked on the pack that is not is a chest strap. It comes with a waste strap but I no chest strap. In my opinion, this would make it feel even more secure on my back. However, this has not stopped the performance of the pack and its comfort when using it.

Spacious pack for work, school, and trails

| I used to be a big fan of the LL Bean backpacks, but I'm slowly becoming a North Face pack fan. The water bottle holders (2) are great for daytime. The pockets are huge to carry books, gear, etc. If I had one issue it's that this pack doesn't have a bottom pocket for shoes, workout gear, but then again that's not what I primarily bought it for. Excellent back support and solid weight distribution, I don't feel any wear or pain from lugging a full pack around. I haven't had a chance to use this during rain or snow conditions, so I can't comment on weatherproof-ness of this, but I hope it stands up. Bottom line, good pack for everyday use, and for the price compared to the other North Face packs, probably the best overall value. | |

You Can Hit A Bullseye With The Slingshot
| Rating: | ![]() |
I really had an opportunity to review a lot of choices for my cycling pack with Backcountry, and being able to enlarge the picture really helped. I knew I wanted The North Face brand and felt really good that I got the best. The Slingshot has one large compartment and a full length front pocket. No silly laptop sleeve to mess with, that's for the kids and suits trying to look hip. What I really like, is the flaps over the water bottle pockets and the front bungy cord. Just the right size for a man and very comfortable to wear. Oh yeah, the small organizational pockets in the large front pocket, are really helpful, too.

9 out of 10 | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| So, I purchased the north face slingshot backpack to replace my $150.00 Oakley Icon that wasn't worth a $1.50 but it looked cool. Any way I put the sling shot through the paces and it passed every test I had for it. So why a 9 out of 10 and not a 10, well it's because I wish there was a little more length on the straps. You see I lift weights and my arms and shoulders are a little bulky but the sligshot still fits even over my plushest winter coat (Nike ACG Urban Survival Snorkel). Looking for a daypack? you will be hard pressed to find one better than the North Face sling Shot. | |

Great deal for the price.

I was looking for a backpack with a decent amount of space but that was inexpensive, and I think I've found that in this backpack. I've been using it for a little over a week now and I'm really happy with how much stuff I can carry around. The side pockets and the straps on the front are really handy. The construction of the backpack seems to be good quality as well. My only complaint is that I wish there was a little more padding on the shoulder straps--it's a little thin for my preference. But, overall, I think this bag is a great deal for what I paid. I'm very happy with my purchase.

nice but... | |

| I've had this backpack for about two years and used it both for hiking in Peru and on campus. It has held up well and is nice and roomy. I have two problems with it though, first that you can't unhook one shoulder and swing it around to access things in the smaller compartment (like keys or a wallet). You have to take the whole thing off and then awkwardly hold it while you search for whatever you need. Which brings me to my second complaint, which is that things tend to fall out of the smaller compartments into the depths of the front pocket. | |

Nice pack for use on campus
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I bought this pack to haul my books around campus, it seams to be of pretty goood quality and is a very nice pack for this purpose. I'm not an avid hiker, yet, so I can't comment on its use for that purpose, but if your looking for a nice daypack, I think this pack is very nice for that purpose. It has a second pouch for a calculator, pens, and etc. It could use a few more compartments but the main compartment is very roomy and the second compartment goes the length of the pack allowing room many small items. | |

| I got this backpack when I got tired enough of my Jansport single-strap backpack, because I ride my bike to school and my Jansport had a habit of sliding around to one side and throwing me off balance. Well, deciding not to let my backpack cause an unfortunate accident, I looked for a good backpack that could also hold my helmet and lo and behold I found the Slingshot. This is my first experience with The North Face, although I've heard of them for many years, and I don't think this'll be the last time I buy their products. Primo good! | |

"Good bag for around campus."

| My girlfriend recently got this bag because she was tired of the neck/back pain her messenger style bag was giving her and she has loved it. No more does she dread carrying he computer, notebooks, textbooks, and various supplies on her walks to and from campus each day. Long story short. If you need a school backpack then this is a safe bet. If you want to hike the Appalachian Trail... Well, lets just say this isn't the bag for you. | |

"I LOVE THIS BAG!" | |

| The picture does not do the bag justice. The green color is awesome so clean and not washed out at all. Also it can fit a lot of crap in it! I put my laptop and quite a few books and it felt super light on my back. Also the front puch can carry a lot and you can put 2 drinks on the sides! Well worth the cost if you want to have an awesome bag that will last FOREVER! | |

| this pack was great for the first year, being in school and all but the down side is that i have had for 2 years and the handle is already breaking off, and there is not enough pockets to help me stay organized. It was great while it lasted and it would be great for a person that was a tailor and very organized | |

Great at first | |

This backpack has performed great over the past 18 months. I will admit to probably over packing it and taking it almost everywhere with me, but it is already starting to show signs of separation at the seam between the strap/handle/bag at the top. I am disappointed in the quality of the backpack.

| The bag is very roomy. The small pocket is a little too big I think and the zipper is a little stiff but overall it's a great bag and I would buy again. | |
