TNF Returns to 103 Style
| Rating: | ![]() |
If you liked the TNF 103 GTX XCR, you'll more than likely LOVE this shoe. I bypassed the 104 GTX XCR, as I did not like the lacing so wide on the shoe. Evidently, I was not the only one, as TNF returns to a very similar style with the 105. I do find the 105 to be a little less stiff and more flexible than the 103, which in my opinion is a very good thing. I think part of the secret is the heel cushioning TNF uses in this shoe. X-2 cushioning is superb. I did not realize it had an incorporated air pocket, which helps soften the ride, but is still firm. My 103s lasted two years, which for me is amazing. The kicker. I have a wide toe box, and wear a 13 2E in road running shoes. Hard to find in a trail shoe. I did find a size 14, while just slightly too long, addressed the width I needed. Still in the 90s here in Tennessee, but can't wait to put them to the test soon. Next month should be raining and cooler, and off we go....All-in-all, a GREAT shoe thus far.

Durable and comfortable for any trail
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I have been wearing The North Face Prophecy II for a few months now and badly needed a waterproof shoe. I ordered The North Face Ultra 105 GTX XCR based on my great past experience with North Face products. Not only is the Ultra 105 more comfortable, it is lightweight and waterproof without overheating your feet. Not restricted to rough inclement terrain, the Ultra 105 also wears well as a casual shoe and looks great with jeans. Sticking with North Face shoes is easy- I have had a bad experience with another "outdoor Gore-Tex shoe" that proceeded to fall apart at the sole when I washed them and sat them out in the sun to dry. This deconstruction occurred after only a few months of moderate wear. I will continue wearing North Face shoes for their outstanding durability and quality. | |

I have had these for a month now and used in snow and rain from Colorado to Kentucky. Since I travel for a living I need one athletic shoe in my bag that can go from gym to trail in Anchorage or other cool climates. I like the warmth and wind resistance the gore liner provides in addition to keeping the piggies dry. They are much lighter and breath better than my Montrail XCR's that my dog chewed. Very flexible shoe for the cooler months. Soft enough for the treadmill or asphalt and perfect for the trail. Great looking too! Not sure how they will hold up? M

103 reincarnate | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
Yes this appears to be almost identical to the 103's that were out a couple years back. I owned a pair of the 103's and absolutely loved them except for 1 detail, the tread design. It had plenty of grip when new but is very shallow and once it wore a bit was sketchy in wet conditions. I have looked at the 105's more than once and will probably buy them even though the tread design is the same as previous 103's The Ultra 104's had a better tread design but did not hold up as well to the abuse that I put shoes through.

Comfortable, Light, and freakin' sweet

| I bought these shoes without trying them on and I was worried they would be uncomfortable or not fit. Luckily, they fit wonderfully and are by far the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. Some other reviewer said that they are slippery, but I haven't tested it so I don't know. Others said they take a while to break in, but for me, they felt like they were broken in from the first time I put them on.I'm using them for walking shoes because I'll be backpacking in Europe, and I definitely made the right choice. | |

solid shoe | |

This is my third pair of these shoes. I am a contractor and I wear them for work every day. The gore tex liner keeps the feet dry in the morning dew or when its raining. They hold up pretty well. I get about a year out of each pair it seems. The Gore tex does make the shoe warmer than w/out so in the summer months it is a bit less comfortable than a shoe without. I've been happy enough since my first pair to keep buying them so that says a lot....

| I love the North Face 105. I used to have North Face 103s, but then they changed the style with the 104s, which I don't think many people liked. The 105 is brings the design back to that of the 103, and I think this was a great decision. The shoe is very comfortable, good-looking, and the gore-tex is a real plus. The fit, for me, is pretty right on. I'll keep buying these if they keep the design, and I think I will get a pair for my wife too. | |

Great Shoe For The Money
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I recently spent 10 days backpacking and hiking in Scandinavia. Wore these shoes through hot weather, cold weather, rain, and sleet. They are as much of an all-purpose run/hike/waterproof shoe as I've seen. I'm usually not a North Face fan but these got the job done. Only comment would be to make sure you give them a thorough break-in - the orthotic footbed is fantastic but needs a good amount of use to really be comfortable. They run true to size as well. | |

Great looking, light and comfortable

The very reason I got the shoes was that they looked great. After I started using them, I found out that the shoes are very lightweight, and comfortable. One probably needs to buy 1/2 size higher than usual. Each of my new shoe is better than the earlier one. This one being my latest buy, is also my best shoe. I do not know about its durability or strength, but hope that it will last for a couple of years.

North Face Not As Good As They Used To Be!
| Rating: | ![]() |
The quality in North Face footwear has diminished over they years. I have bought their footwear for years and they aren't cheap! Sadly, you no longer get what you pay for with these shoes. The rubber is starting to rip up on me by the soles and on my last pair the bottom of the sole was starting to come apart. Very poorly built sneaker as compared to years ago. I have owned a pair of Salomon Gore-Tex and they were MUCH better built and comfortable. Buyer beware, the shoes are pretty but has serious quality issues!

Don't do it | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
Everything about this shoe is amazing. They're comfortable, they're supportive, the stitching holds up like a champ and there never was a drop of water coming through and the soles grip like monkeys. The biggest problem and annoyance is the fact that the soles aren't glued on well. The rubber peels off of the bedding. I fixed the problem with some ShoeGlue which works fine but I've had to re-glue my shoes multiple times. My friend had a pair of TNF boots that did the same thing.

I'm bummed! Great looking, comfy...BUT

| Love the look and comfort of these shoes, but unfortunately, I have to concur with one of the earlier posts. After having these shoes for only four months (and not even wearing much of the winter because of deep snow here in MN)the soles are wearing and on one shoe, is actually becoming "unglued" at the heel. Too bad because I thought I found "my" trail shoe. | |

| I wore these shoes while working as a milk man. They lost traction in one month in two they had holes in the bottoms and the waterproofness was history due to the toe rand glue giving way. The only points they get are for style they look cool. don't buy these junk shoes | |

Slick soles on wet surfaces
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I was very pleased with the shoe at first. If caught in the middle, order the next size larger. The toe box has ample space, and it is super waterproof and very breathable. They are also comfy enough to kick around town in between hiking adventures. However, I almost took a digger when I jumped down a stoneface onto a slick rock below. My foot slid straight out as if on ice! Holy cow! I thought maybe it was because the soles were new, but even after many days and miles later, they are still very slick on wet surfaces. I strongly recommend caution when hiking and jumping around moist surfaces in these. Too bad, because I just lost my job and can't really afford a new pair. | |
