Great windproof vest, all purpose use!
| Rating: | ![]() |
I was loyal to the Patagonia equivalent of the TNF Windfall Vest for the last 5 years. I still wear it to this day. It's great quality, always looked new even after many washes etc.. but after a few years I figure it's time to get a new one, even though it still wears perfectly... so I got the TNF Windfall on sale here and I love it just as much. It's just as good if not better. It's an all occasion, all weather essentially windproof thin fleece vest. I wear it out with shorts, jeans, backpacking, it keeps me warm when worn over a wicker shirt, etc. I wear it hiking, backpacking, lounging, going to the store, etc...I got the mens small and it fits me perfectly (5'7", 154lbs, 40chest/31waist). Everyone needs one of these, they are just that all purpose useful. I'm not trying to sell anyone on it or a particular brand. I literally live in this as the post below states and stand by these windfall/windproof fleece type vests as really all purpose technical gear that looks great just wearing with jeans into the city too. This is not winter gear but it is decent 3-season gear.

Well built, stylish - Highly recommend

| I use this daily, as well as on adventure trips. Despite no sleeves it keeps me surprisingly warm, and doesn't let air through, which is the problem w/ other fleeces I have used. There are definitely warmer fleeces, but when layering with a coat I am comfortable down to single digits. Like all NFace products I have owned it is made of top quality materials in a very stylish and durable build. I'm comfortable wearing it around town, school, as well as in the outdoors. Fits a bit larger than expected - could have gone a size smaller than usual, but kept it at my typical size in order to have lots of room for layering. Only con: doesn't breath particularly well. But then it is supposed to block wind . . . Awesome Buy. | |

Nice Vest | |

I recently order one of these to wear as the temps began to drop. I am 6'2" 192#. I stuck to the size chart and it fits like a glove, but not too snug. I'd be able to wear some thermals under it but that's about it. If you like a little looser fit vest, order a size up. The vest does a good job of blocking wind, at least as well as a vest can. The arm holes are a little snug so that's why I wouldn't bulk up underneath, it'd just bunch up in your armpit. The fleece is very soft and gets even better with a good wash. I love the vest and I recommend it as a essential piece of gear to have!

Why Is North Face So Awesome?
| Rating: | ![]() |
I've had this vest for 8 months. Its very well built, blocks wind, provides excellent warmth and looks great. Its comfortable to wear as well; it provides excellent weather resistance with a minimum of bulk, fitting well under a shell. I recently took it on a couple of big hikes and it was an awesome layer under a shell - I stayed warm and had no bulk in the arms to bother me. I also wore it while on a windy boat ride at night and it was perfect. Its going to be one of my favorites for years. I'm always happy with my North Face stuff, and the company has been awesome about repairing anything that ever had a glitch (after many years of use).

Nice vest | |

| This vest is great. It offers more wind protection than traditional fleece without the fluffy bulk. I like the sizing because for an XL it's still a normal length rather than also being extra tall. The armholes are a little small for the size though, if I wear anything but a T-shirt under it, things get puckered around the shoulders. I also like the short collar, it's short enough to not fold over, and stands up without reaching the jaw and chin, so it's easy to comfortably zip up all the way. Unlike the arm holes, the neck is plenty roomy for the size. | |

I Practically Live In This Thing
| Rating: | ![]() |
I didn't expect such a wonderfully versatile product when I bought this vest. It's quite windproof, much more so than the fleece found on TNF's more popular Denali jacket/vest. This vest is fairly light in material so you can layer it on top of a tee and underneath a technical shell. Styling is great but be sure you order the right size (I wear a 42R suit jacket and am happy with a Medium for this vest). I've washed my vest about a dozen times since I've had it and the fleece is starting to pile. Despite this, it still looks presentable.

Love it. | |

| First I purchased an awesome all season wind-proof, water-proof, shell. Next was the decision on what to put under it. North Face was the answer but which one? Denali jacket or vest; Apex Bionic or one of the other many TNF styles. I picked the Windwall 1 vest. Since it builds and retains heat I can wear a short sleeve shirt on cool days; long sleeve on cooler days; and add the shell for cold and or wet days. Of course buying from Altrec is a bonus no matter what you buy... :-) | |

I bought this vest for my husband last year and he has practically lived in it ever since! It is very stylish and flattering and keeps him warm in the spring, fall and winter. The fit is true to size and it holds up very very well -- you would never know that he has worn it as much as he has. I would definitely recommend it - it's a great product at a great price. Even better, it does an excellent job of blocking the wind!

Good vest | |

I ordered this vest a couple months back to help add a little extra warmth to morning walks and for layering when I travel to colder climates (I'm in Texas). It has done great in both respects and has proved to be very useful and versatile. The vest is comfortable, soft, yet still feels like it's rugged enough to take on a good long hike. I'm happy with my purchase and would definitely buy it all over again.

Love this vest | |

| I love this thing. I went skiing on a warmer day and wore this vest and it worked well. I also like that it has some light insulation on the inside so it is a little more than just a fleece vest. It's actually warm. Craftmanship is top notch too. It's one of those pieces of equipment that make me think "man, I'm glad I bought this" | |

Overpriced w/ little benefit
| Rating: | ![]() |
| Typical great North Face quality construction, however this vest provides little warmth retention. Some wind protection, but not enough to offset its lack of maintaining core warmth. Save your money, buy a warmer vest and use a shell or light jacket over it. The REI Woodland or Muir Woods Fleece Vests are significantly warmer when layered than this product layered and its wind protection hardly offsets for the lack of warmth. I returned it to REI after my first cold hike with it, and yes, it was windy that day! | |

"A good vest that could be made better"

| The vest is good for fall and spring weather. My only issue with this vest is the lack of pockets. This vest has two external pockets and thats it. A internal pocket and another external would make this a better vest. | |
