As comfortable as my pillow at home
| Rating: | ![]() |
| This is one of the best purchases I have made since getting into backpacking. This is the only "luxury" item I bring along, and at 7 ounces for a small it is worth every gram! This pillow deserves 6 stars out of 5. The small is more than big enough for me, and provides enough room to move around. The loft should be high enough for most side sleepers, but if it is not you could fold it over. Since receiving this pillow, I have slept on it every night at home, as well as nights outside. It is every bit as comfortable as my normal pillow that I use at home, and actually lofts up higher than my "home pillow"! It was (as you would expect) very flat when I first uncompressed it, but after kneading it a bit and letting it sit out for 30 minutes it fluffed right up. I couldn't be more pleased with this pillow. At 7oz it is pretty heavy considering the other options available (stuff sack with jacket inside, inflatable pillow), but the extra comfort is well worth the weight. This is my first time reviewing a product here. I was just so impressed by how comfortable this pillow is that I wanted to come and say so. You won't be disappointed if you buy this pillow. | |

I recommend the Large | |

At first, I was thinking, eh, this isn't the best, it's lumpy and uncomfortable, and it makes weird rustling sounds in my ears from the form compressing/decompressing--then I used it a couple more times. Now, I'm really into it. Seriously, I have no problem trading out my bed pillow for this pillow. I think the first night I was just thinking too much about the pillow--it was a "princess and the pea" situation.

This pillow rocks my socks!

| I pack pretty light but there are a couple things I don't skimp on. One is a pillow. I've taken this pillow to hostels in 15 countries. You just can't beat it. This pillow has also been to Yosemite, the Colorado River, The Appalachians, Death Valley, and most recently, camping in the Florida Keys for 6 days. There are some things you need to know about this pillow to get it to work right. First, you have to keep it fluffed whenever you aren't packed. Secondly, you have to keep it clean. It's kinda hard to wash because the little spongy foam chunks inside fill with air and you really have to hold under water like you're drowning it to get detergent to penetrate it. Then, you REALLY have to make sure it dries before you re-pack it. If you follow the directions it's a great pillow. I have a down camp pillow and I never use it. It was much more $$$ but never fluffs up like the Thermarest. | |

Too my surprise, NOT TOO SOFT!
| Rating: | ![]() |
I admit it, I'm a pillow snob. Off the trail I employ a super-firm memory foam Cadillac-Class pillow. Most commercial pillows are too soft for my taste, and feather pillows are just plain uncomfortable. I was skeptical of any trail pillow, but there had to be some improvement available to best my rolled up fleece in a stuff sack.

For ages when camping with my gf I would use her as a pillow. She was warm and soft. She was never comfortable though, maybe I have a big head.

Send Migranes Away! | |

A better night's sleep while camping means more energy for the next day's adventures. Headache sufferers (myself included) who need to "sleep it off" will find this pillow a great relief. Tried many "camp" pillows, and this one wins my vote for the most comfortable, with the least amount (none so far) of neck stiffness or pain in the morning.

Great for travel | |

| I'm glad I made room for this pillow even though I was packing light on my last 3-week trip in Africa. This was much more comfortable than almost all of the hotel/train pillows and was great for the plane and bus rides. I was slightly disappointed when I received the pillow because it wasn't fluffy and had big chunks of foam. However, after breaking apart the chunks and letting the pillow "inflate" for about 2 days, it was fluffy. I usually use a memory foam pillow and this was a good substitute. Even after compressing it for travel, it re-fluffed quickly. I took a pillow case so that I could wash it along the way. My only complaint is that the drawstring is getting frayed after about 40 uses. | |

Love it! | |

| I ordered my pillow just in time for a trip to Ramsey's Draft Wilderness in the GW National Forest in Virginia the weekend after Thanksgiving. The pillow was great and made the 25 degree F temperature the first night more tolerable. In the past, I would sleep with my pack under my head, but the Thermarest pillow is a much more comfortable alternative. It is lightweight and compresses down to about the size of a foot long Subway sandwich. I have read some reviews that complain of the pillow not "uncompressing" well. I did find this to be a problem. Just remember to fluff the pillow according to the included directions. I highly recommend this pillow to add comfort to your back country experience. | |

Therm-a-Rest Compressible Pillow review
| Rating: | ![]() |
The Therm-a-Rest Compressible Pillow is a great addition to my backpacking gear, and a good substitute for my bed pillow. I ordered the small, and at 7oz, it is very comfortable. Your head doesn't sink too far like you might find with the Western Mountaineering pillow, but you are still able to enjoy the soft-feel of a normal pillow.

Just what i was looking for ....

When you first get your TRCP you'll notice its compressed into shape as you would as if you were gonna pack it .... Its stored and shipped this way, so you must expand the pillow and fluff and allow 15-30 minutes for it to fully refluff ... Even on the tag is displays this, as well as cleaning instructions ... The pillow holds loft amazingly over night and is so soft you'll be asleep before you find a fault to it ... A good 3 1/2 to 4" loft ... I got the 12oz large ... my pillow is my number one priorty for sleeping ... You can't go wrong with this pillow, medium or large.

You have got to be kidding!

| In my opinion this product does not measure up as a pillow - It is on the thin side and very lumpy with chunks of foam inside it. I would never use this as a pillow, I would roll up my jacket or vest and sleep on that instead! | |

Lumpy and Uncomfortable
| Rating: | ![]() |
| When I unrolled the pillow out of the shipping box, the pillow felt like it was filled with weird, synthetic lumps. It's kind of gross and thin; but soft. Depending on the terrain of a campsite, this pillow might not work out so well. | |

don't like filling | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| The size of this pillow is great - the largest of the small pillows I've found. The filling leaves much to be desired. The filling feels like styrofoam popcorns used for packing. not comfortable b/c they don't [cre-ate]a uniform cushion. | |

| Unfortunately, this product doesn't live up to the expectations created by the packaging. It packs up small, but doesn't unpack into the full, plump pillow shown in the photos. | |

Large size didn't fluff out
| Rating: | ![]() |
I'm not sure if I just got a bad one or not. I tried the medium size and it fluffed out nice. But, I also got a large one and it refused to fluff out. I did everything I could think of to make it fluff out but it just wouldn't do it. I finally gave up and sent it back. It was so deflated that it looked like they tried to put the same amount of fluffing from a medium into a large size. I finally bought a Lafuma big bear polar pillow instead. It is rather large, but I have a bad neck and need a comfortable pillow. So you may get one that fluffs out nice and you may not. Be sure to test it out before you go camping.
