Therm-a-Rest RidgeRest Deluxe

Hiking & Camping > Sleeping Bags & PadsRated: **** by 12 reviews.

Altrec

Thicker than the classic closed-cell RidgeRest®, sleeping pads, the Thermarest RidgeRest® Deluxe offers excellent warmth for cold weather conditions on the trail and in the mountains. It's the clear solution for four-season backpackers and climbers who want a durable mattress that doesn't require a ton of space. Like the classic RidgeRest®, the Thermarest RidgeRest® Deluxe features rows of indentations to help trap warmth and hold it close to your sleeping bag. The thicker profile potentially holds heat longer than thinner width mattresses.

Features:

  • Dimensions: 20 x 72 in. (63 x 196 cm.)
  • Distinct ridged design with closed-cell construction
  • Weight: 1 lb. 3 oz. (540 g.)
  • Width: .75 in. (2 cm.) (normal RidgeRest is .675-in. thick)

No Leaks ! bulky.

Rating:*****
To start, this thing is HUGE. i mean it's ginormous ! but very lightweight... so it's awesome if you can handle the bulk hanging off your pack. very durable and comfortable.

i own the Exped Downmat 7, and that has been one slow leak after another. The Ridge Rest Delux is nowhere near as comfortable as a full on inflated down mat... but it's a Cadillac of foam pads. i've not slept on any very rocky terrain yet, but it does a great job on lumpy clay and 'tufty' grass, anything this mat could not make comfortable, would be pokey enough to not trust your inflatable on anyway.

if dependability is a must, and if you can handle it being bulky, then i would get this product... it is lightweight & a very durable alternative to more expensive inflatable pads (which have, in my experiences, failed)

HIGHLY recommend.

Not what I expected...

Rating:****
After reading several reviews on this, I thought it was going to be a lot more comfortable than my Term-a-rest air pad and my Big Agnes but that wasn't the case. I love the fact that this is a 25" wide pad because I fit on it so much better. That was the main reason for buying this pad. I also like the fact that I didn't slip and slide on this pad like I do the others. I will try this with a blue foam pad and see if it's a little more comfortable next time.

never fails

Rating:*****
I backpack and camp a lot for both business and pleasure (mostly pleasure) and I was simply tired of short, heavy inflatable pads which sometimes fail. The most important piece of gear is the pad seperating you from the cold ground. I love this pad because it cant fail, its lighter than every inflatable pad, and its four season in case you end up sleeping on snow.

Simple & functional

Rating:****
I prefer foam pads over thermarest-style inflatable pads. I live in the desert and I've had multiple friends wake up with a deflated thermarest because there are so many pokey plants and cactuses here. Also, while snow camping, I find the air in the thermarest gets cold, while the foam pad effectively insulates me from the ground. I like this one! However, it *is* bulky.

100% reliable

Rating:****
Love this product. While my travel partner complain about deflating pads I smile knowing I'll NEVER have that problem. Admittedly, it's not quite as comfortable as a fully functioning inflating pad but oh well.

Bulky, but light and no more leaks.

Rating:****
We own four Therm-A-Rest inflatable pads, and they all leak. I got tired of waking up on a flat pad and of filling the bath to find the leak.

Good buy, better buy than Z-Rest

Rating:****
I slept much more comfortably on my RidgeRest Deluxe than on my Z-Rest. However I believe 2 - 4 more inches in width would help without compromising packing.

gold standard

Rating:*****
great at elevation and on snow. always ready to go. fits great in the seat converter. never worry about root, rock, branch punctures.

Excellent Quality, Super price

Altrec has an excellent Thermarest "Deluxe" sleeping pad at the best price on the net. Ideal for camping for your sleeping bag.

a thin line between sleep and no sleep

Rating:****
for the money it performs very well, would be nice if it rolled up smaller but you can't have everything.

Don't kid yourself

Rating:***
Bought this product based on the reviews and description, used it while snowcamping this weekend on Blewitt Pass (elev. 4000 ft.). Don't kid yourself, this pad does not "effectively insulate" against the cold in the ground. Maybe I was not quite as cold as others with a thinner pad, but I did expect more.
Mom out in the Wild at REI on 01/13/2008

It performed as expected.

Kept me warm and made for a smooth sleeping surface. Takes up a lot of room when rolled up though (about 10" round and 20" long)
