The Z-Seat is Therm-a-Rest's lightest seat. Made of closed-cell foam, this seat is both comfortable and durable with an R-value of 2.2. On short rest breaks it's often too much of a hassle to unpack and inflate a traditional lightweight seat. So you end up sitting in a snow bank, on wet logs or uncomfortable rocks. The Z-seat doesn't need to be inflated, and the accordion-style design makes it ready to use in an instant.

Great for Cold Weather Sitting

This is a great item to bring along for cold, wet or winter sitting. It effectively insulates against cold rocks or snow that would otherwise suck body heat right out. It's very light and compact, and easy to stuff in an external bottle pocket and secure with a compression strap. Because it folds, rather than rolls, the sitting side stays clean and dry. I'm puzzled, though, by the reflective plastic on the new model: Which is the preferred sitting side?

My only complaint is the shipping. The total weight of the manufacturer's plastic sleeve and the EMS paperwork was 2.5 ounces (the Z seat alone weighs the specified 2 ounces). It cost $6.99 to ship in an oversized cardboard box that weighed 11.7 ounces with the included packing material. Surely a padded or tyvek envelope and about a dollar of postage would have done the job more cheaply and with less packing waste.

Great way to glass

Where I hunt it seems that I typically glass all day (looking for praire mule deer). This is a perfect product to always have in the pack, from backpacking to glassing. Great product!

Z - Seat

Very handy for hikes in fowl weather when all the rocks and logs are too wet to sit on. Plus it won't ever go flat!

Handy seat, easy to tote

This is so light and easy to carry and use that I am glad to add it to my gear.

excellent

amazingly comfortable and compact. For meditation cross-legged, use this for your legs, and a trail seat to sit on.

great, won't deflate

Had the inflatable thermarest and popped with my chock pick. This works much better.

Neutral Reviews:

Light weight, good pillow

This pad is very light weight and reasonably comfortable. It easily straps on the outside of either exterior or interior frame packs. However, most of the time I just sat on the ground and got dirty. Folded, the pad made a decent pillow. I used it that way much more than as a seat.

If you find yourself wanting a light weight seat, this is a good option, but I'll be leaving it home most of the time because I didn't use it enough to justify carrying it.

It's ok

It's great at first then it compresses fast Taking away the insulation from the ground. good for summer bad for those colder fall days. works great with two pads in the winter I wouldn't try it alone winter camping.
