Thule 400XT Aero Foot Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

Very stable once installed.

I bought with Echelon bike carriers. Works very well and is very stable on a Honda Accord 2008. Had no problems with a 6 hour trip to Acadia National Park and back.Installation, however, required a near-Herculan effort to engage one foot's locking mechanism on one of the bars, extensibly due to a out-of-tolerance bar width. I had resorted to bracing the Thule foot against a stair tread and pulling to lock it onto the bar. Afterwards, it became evident that one of the bars was out of tolerance (too thick). The other bar was within tolerance. Upon the latter bar I found locking mechanism engaged when I installed the rack on the roof and tightened the bottom clamps (those which attach to the roof). Thule really needs to update their installation literature. There's just no way that one average human can close the locking mechanism with two hands, much less the pictured one hand move...

Thule 400 XT Aero Footpack

The footpack integrates nicely with other Thule rack accessories I ahve howevr getting the footpack mounted on the car was very difficult. Because of very tight clearnaces. The angle taht the swivel bolt has to make to grab the threats of the bolt was not possible unless I had a second person with a stick puching the footpack from the opposite side of the car to line up the bolt and nut it had to screw in multiply this times 4 footpacks and installation took two hours when it should ahve taken 10 minutes. Once installed it was very solidI think looseing the clearances a tiny amount woudl have made all the difference in making this an easy mounting footpack. Would recommend but get ready for a battle. This is not the kind of thing you want to attach just before you leave for a trip make sure you have budgted adequate time

Really Good Product

The Thule 400XT Aero Foot package has proven to be an excellent overall rack kit. I did have some difficulty with clicking the tensioning cam into place on a few of the feet though. After struggling with it for a while I decided to try using the bracket from the fit kit and the screw to rachet the cam into place. I turned the bracket from the fit kit in the opposite position than normal, thread the screw into the female end of the tensioning cam and tightened it. It worked beautifully and I was able to bring the tensioning cam into the first click much MUCH more easily this way. Other than the difficulty of the closing the cam, I have found this to be an excellent product. I do have some minor whistling when travelling at speeds over 50 mph but that was expected.

Great but difficult to install

The Thule Rack mount system is great but there is one problem. Plan on taking about 2-3 hours to install it. There is a lot of measuring and adjusting that needs to happen in order to install this correctly. Also, the lever that needs to be pressed in to lock the bar in place requires about 150+ lbs of pressure to lock in. This means you may need to step on the lever unless your grip can apply 150+ lbs of force. Overall, just very difficult to install otherwise it would have received 5 stars.

Good rack, rugged

The product fit my Nissan Versa 4dr very well. Stable and well built. Unlike other comments here regarding difficulty with installation, the product was easy to install by myself without the help of another. You have to read (and keep) the instructions in detail ... then it works. Got two kayaks and one bike on highway at high speeds and worked fine. Install time was about 15 min after assembly and takedown about 10 minutes including removal of kayaks and bike.

400XT Aero Foot by Thule

This was my first rack I've installed. It was a little difficult. It would be easier to install if the bar locked down seperatly from the feet but I assume it locks down together for added safty. I recommend that you retighten the feet after your first use. Brand new they are a little stiff (which is good) and might loosen after they settle in.

Works once you get it on correctly

This product was extremely hard to install on my 2-door Honda Accord. I even had the staff at EMS install it, and they still had a hard time. But they did a great job and now that the rack is on the car, it works great!

Well made and very strong

Once you get the proper length of the bars figured out these are easy to install and tighten down. I went on a 800 mile trip with high winds and didn't have any problems with my kayak on the roof.

Mostly Satisfied

Overall great product, I recommend it. Only issue was the difficulty in attaching the load bars; still not sure if they clamped in all the way, but seem to hold.

it does the job

This is my first roof rack system so don't know much about them but it is working for me.

Returned

Returned all the pieces. This is not the user friendly product that we were looking for.
