Very versatile hitch rack near perfect
| Rating: | ![]() |
| My girlfriend and I have 4 bikes, 3 road, 1 mtb which is often carried to the ride start by our FJ Cruiser. Unfortunately the FJ cruiser has a swing gate that pivots on one side of the rear door and does not pivot vertically like some other SUVs. This prevents access to the trunk area when a bike rack is mounted. To get to the trunk area you either have to buy a 2 prong (fork style) hitch rack which swings out of the way or remove the rack once the bikes are off. Also the fork style racks limits the types of bikes that you can carry (short top tube, y frame, etc) and also supports the bike via the frame (not preferred for CF roadbikes). We prefer tray based racks so we had a Saris Cycle On before. The Cycle on although solid, did not pivot down like T2. The T2 can pivot down enough to allow the rear door on the FJ to swing past the rack allowing full access to the trunk space (barring that the bikes aren't on the rack at the time). Even if the bikes are on the rack, you can still get it open a human body's width making it possible to get stuff out still. A couple of downsides to the rack. The Thule T2 doesn't have a loop hole in the rack itself to allow you to lock it to the hitch receiver. I'm sure you can find a locking bolt to pin it to the hitch but I haven't found it locally yet. The other downside is that the front wheel tray only encircles perhaps 1/4 of the wheel circumferance. This reduces stability when mounting in comparison to the Saris. This made it difficult to carry my gf's commuter bike (Cannondale R400 road bike with 650c wheels). It handles my 56cm road bike just fine. Mountain bikes are also not a problem either as it provides ample clearance off the back of the vehicle for even the widest of bars. The benefit also being that the trays themselves can be adjusted side to side in respect to the main frame of the hitch rack. This provides additional flexibility in avoiding contact between bikes. Still the flexibility of the rack along with the durable design and ease of use makes it one of the top hitch racks around. | |

Way better than other options!

| -Short intro: I have an FJ Cruiser to take on 4x4 approach, 2 heavy freeride bikes with 2.5 in tires and 2 people who are tired after riding. -Originally had a spare tire rack (Thule) for FJ Cruiser, bikes were heavy to hoist onto rack, also needed top tube adapter to squeeze bikes onto rack...it was an overall pain. -Purchased the Yakima Stick Up rack and it was a bigger pain than the original spare tire rack. The Yakima rack didn't allow FJ Cruiser rear door clearance, the rack connection was shaky, the connection of the mast to the bikes was shaky and it was also impossible to get the bike that was closest to the door onto the rack because the spare tire was blocking a lot of area and the mast would not coordinate with the freeride frame style. -The Thule T2 is so much better than the other two bike racks that were mentioned. The rack is stable and easy to load freeride style frames, it shakes very little, the back door of the FJ clears the rack (when empty) because of the drop down pin and clearance for the closest bike to the car is no longer a problem. There are a few things to note: refer to the picture on the box for installation orientation of the bike trays, the directions are a bit vague, and the rack is pricey (but worth it) and the hitch bolt only connects on one side of the hitch mount. I plan on drilling out the nut that guides the short bolt that is supposed to hold the rack on and using a locking pin to secure the rack to my car. | |

Great for the Long Haul | |

| For 4 years I have used the precursor to the T2. We have well over 10,000 miles on this rack over everything from highways to mountains to desert dirt tracks. All kinds of weather. It's still going strong! I bought my son the T2 for Christmas. He loves the improvements over my rack that include: 1] Ratchet for rear wheels (previously a strap); 2] Easier fold up or down mechanism 3] Wrenches for easy attachment to the hitch 4)Very adjustable bike attachments (but this also means more bolts that tend to loosen). The one thing he likes better on my old rack is the full loop to hold the front wheel. On the T2 the front tire mount only holds the bottom and rear of the wheel, and this has worked loose several times, allowing the front tire to come out. Check this frequently on long trips. Although this is not recommended as an off-highway rack, we have used ours extensively on some pretty sketchy terrain with no problems. THIS IS THE BEST RACK AVAILABLE! | |

Thule's T2 is the BEST of the BEST!

| This rack truly is the best of the best. I've owned: 1) Yakima RimRoc (hitchmount) 2) Yakima HitchFork (hitchmount) 3) Yakima Full Swing (hitchmount) After being "married" to Yakima products for over 10 years, this is the first Thule product I've ever purchased and I'm very pleased. Bikes load easily and are stable when transporting. Accommodates almost ANY type frame and most importantly... the frames aren't scratched or damaged on long trips. Yakima's Full Swing would pinch the shift cables against the frame thus scratching the frame. I'm an avid cyclist and my bikes are precious to me. The Thule T2 lets me transport my bikes without damages associated with other racks. Also, these racks are VERY similar to the racks used on Seattle City Buses. I highly recommend this rack. I'll be purchasing the optional "add-on" rack (adds 2 more bike holders) in the near future. | |

The best bike rack we have owned!!

| My wife and I have had this rack for about 8 months and just love its functionality. We went from car top bike trays on a 4Runner, to a Thule hitching post, and ultimately to this. My wife loves how easy it is to load and unload her bike, as the roof top carrier was just problematic due to the height of the vehicle in combination with removing the front tire. With the hitching post, our bikes invariably rubbed against one another causing scratches. Our only minor concern with this product is its weight. In order go get the most out of a tank of gas, you may want to remove this rack when not in use. We have noticed about a 40-mile loss, per tank of gas when the rack is continuously left on the vehicle | |

Best bike rack ever made!

| It is well worth the money!!! There is no easier way to put your bikes on a rack. Keeps your bike completely scratch resistant when two or more bikes are added. I recommend buying the key lock attachments, you can lock the bikes to the rack and lock the rack to the car. I think I've sold over a dozen of these to people who have witnesses me either take my bike off or put it on the rack, it's effortless! It's also easy to install and remove, as I do it almost daily... and if a middle aged women can do it, anyone can! | |

Great for Protecting Your Investment

| A great rack that keeps the bikes ultra stable and, while inconvenient, the screw that holds it to the hitch receiver adds to the stability. My main complaint is that you can't use a standard hitch pin lock, you have to get the screw/lock piece from Thule to make sure people don't walk away with your rack. Also definitely pick up the two pack of lock cores to lock the arms in over your bike. Overall a very good investment, protects parts and paint well. | |

Best Hitch Mount Option Period...
| Rating: | ![]() |
| This rack has all of the pros and none of the cons! The rack takes less than a minute to put on my truck and less than a minute to load both bikes. It's also a one person operation!!! No more climbing on top of my car or removing my front tire. The bikes are protected from debri and wind. Conserves gas. By far the best rack option I've used or even seen. | |

Best Purchase I've made

| I do a large number of triathlons each season. Its great to know I no longer have to worry about what my bike condition is going to be when I get to an event. It takes me no longer that 30 seconds to load or unload my bike. Not having to take the front tire off is great. There is no movement of the bike while in transent. | |

Excellent Bike Rack! | |

| The Thule Bike Racks are very easy to install, use, and the quality is excellent. I use the 2" version with my Jeep for My Road Bikes. I have not had any issues to date. I have owned both Yakima & Thule Hitch Racks. The quality of the Thule racks are just a step up in my opinion. | |
