Surprisingly non-breathable, good SPF

| I received this as a welcome Xmas gift as I had long heard about Tilley quality (from Tilley). The hat is well made and looks much better on the head than in the photos, at least on me. I've worn the hat for casual cross-country skiing on sunny day. It has excellent sun protection (about a 3.75" brim in the front and back, narrower on the sides). However, despite the mesh, the inside of the hat was soon dotted with water droplets, and the band felt very warm and damp. This was with outside temperatures in the 30s (F). I'd say the review by like2hike was right on. Nonetheless, four stars. My guess is that it is very difficult to build a sun and rain resistant hat that doesn't retain a lot of moisture. This hat performed no worse than another hat I might have worn, but not a whole lot better. | |

Excellent Hat | |

| Great hat! I used to be a diehard baseball hat fan. Not any more. I bought this one for a safari trip to Tanzania. Since then, the hat has continued to travel with me all over the world, and the US for that matter. I recently took it on a trip to Puerto Vallarta. It was perfect for the beach and the straps keep you from loosing it in high winds. This thing washes up great and holds it shape very well! I have gotten it pretty dirty and all I do is toss it in the washing machine with the rest of my laundry. Hang it dry and it's ready for more. Also, as mentioned above, it holds its shape very well. I have crunched this thing up in luggage, backpacks, etc. I just pull it out and with some very slight reshaping, it looks just fine. I would highly recommend this hat. | |

Not great for really hot weather

| The hat looks nice, but in really hot, humid weather, when I need a sun hat the most, I find that the hat does not breathe well. The mesh is a plus, but the rest of the fabric is waterproof/non-breathable. In particular, the sweat band is sealed on the outside by this waterproof fabric, so it just gets wetter and wetter and never evaporates any sweat until the hat is removed. It is fine for cooler weather and also sheds rain pretty well. I wear mine for social occasions when I want something that looks nicer than the hats I have that can perform in the heat. Not a great value for the price. | |

| I'm not really a hat person, but I reach for my Tilley whenever I'm going to be outside for an extended time. I bled all over it the first time I used it, but it ran through the washing machine and came out looking like new--no problems with the shape or anything! It seems to take whatever I can dish out and then bounces back with no trouble. I thought it was kinda pricey when I bought it, but now I can see that I'll be able to use it for years. It's a great value. | |

Love this hat | |

| I liked the hat so much that I treated it very carefully to keep it looking new ... unnecessarily carefully, as it turns out. After a recent hike across the Grand Canyon, I decided to try washing it in spite of my fears that washing would ruin it. Not so. It looks like new all over again ... sweat stain is gone, dirt is gone, etc. Now that I know how rugged it is, I wear it all the time and treat it... well ... like my favorite hat. | |

Great Hat | |

| Best hat I ever own! I work on a golf course as well as play there for 4 to 5 days a week. The hat does a great job protecting me from the sun, rain and wind. And it goes through plenty abuse like stuffed into my golf bag, run over by golf cart, blown into water or mud. After a wash it is like brand new. | |

| I bought this hat to wear while in Africa. From the slopes of Kilimanjaro to the plains of the Serengeti, this hat kept my head protected from the elements. Yes it's a little spendy compared to other hats, but once you've worn it for a while you'll be convinced its a great hat. A word of advice, make sure you purchase the right size! | |

Great Cottonpickin' Hat

| Living in the AZ desert takes a good hat to protect one from the sun. This hat does the job. It breathes about the best of any hat I've owned without allowing in sun to burn my balding head. At first I balked at the price but seeing how it wears, protects, travels well & keeps looking good, glad I bought it. | |

| This is the best hat you will ever own. It has a lifetime warranty and also a loss warranty. They float, are machine washable, UV rated, won't discolor, and are lightweight. Make sure when you buy it that you are able to put two fingers inside the front of the hat so that it fits loosely on your head. | |

| This is a great hat. Mine has many miles and summer camps on its brim, but it doesn't even show. The replacement guarntee is awesome. I expect to have this hat forever. It protects in all elements. | |
