Originally built for hard-working messengers, the Classic Messenger Bag has been in production for 18 years. Known for its long-lasting, rugged durability and distinctive three-panel, multi-color design, the Classic Messenger has been adopted in cities around the world as the everyday, all-purpose carryall. It features a ballistic nylon exterior and waterproof liner, and remains the bag-of-choice for bicycle messengers, cycling enthusiasts and urban dwellers everywhere.
The Grown Collection is Timbuk's vision to moving towards utilizing parts and materials that are better for the environment and less harmful to the folks who make them. Last year they took a big step by eliminating PVC from their entire line. These bags are another step in the right direction. On some of the key styles you’ll find the same fabric texture both inside and out. The bag maintains water resistance and durability without sacrificing style. Self fabric trim adds to the finished look. Fabric is made up of 66% hemp, 33% PET, and 1% mojo.
The Originals Collection consists of waxed canvas bought in the U.S. and makes some of Timbuk2's favorite bags. They found a bunch of classic patches and are using those along with the old skool ballistic bottom boot.

Timbuk2 Commute Messenger Bag
| Rating: | ![]() |
Wow. I would never have imagined how indispensable this bag would become before I bought it. I used to use a DaKine backpack for my bike commutes to work and for a briefcase when I needed it. It was OK - drawbacks included a sweaty back, difficult access during a ride, and poor shape/configuration for computer and file transport.

This ultra-durable, waterproof bags lets you ride in style

I use this bag every day when commuting on my bike. My absolute favorite thing about it is something I have seen in no other messenger bags - the strap has a quick release cinch allowing you to hike the bag way up on your back while riding, and let it back down to your waist when you arrive so you don't look like a wannabe hipster. The ballistic nylon is ultra-durable. I don't think it will EVER wear out. Additionally, the bag has a completely waterproof lining allowing you to wear it in absolute downpours while keeping the contents dry (which I have on many occasions) as long as the cover flap is situated appropriately. I like the organizer pockets on the inside and the brightly colored key ring is a bonus. The only thing that gets a little annoying is that the Velcro fastener that fastens the top closed is a bit excessive. Don't expect to discretely open your bag if you sneak into lecture late... RRRIIIIIIIP!! However, it's no longer a problem for me - there's nothing a little duct tape can't fix.

Great on and off the bike

This bag is outstanding, there is a reason they are so ubiquitous. Sizing is pretty large, I got the medium and can't imagine being able to carry the bigger ones on my bike. The medium fits my 15" laptop in sleeve, my change of clothes/shoes and my lunch pretty handily. You can squeeze more in, but may sacrifice the water resistance. The inside pockets handle all my tools, tubes, and toiletries as well.

| Cute, but velcro overload - This bag is very attractive, especially in the plum. It can become VERY heavy at times, which really strains the shoulder (I may need to buy a padded strap for this). Also, I have a thing against velcro. When I'm in class, I don't want to hear velcro bags being opened. I don't want to be that annoying person! I love all the compartments for stuff. I also really love the fact that the inside of the bag is light blue, rather than black, because it makes things much easier to find at the bottom of the bag. Overall a great bag, but I think there should be a version of it available without velcro. | |

Best all around bag you'll ever need
| Rating: | ![]() |
I now own four of these bags. The small is just about right for the gym if you don't need to take shoes. It's water proof, and holds a six pack and sandwiches just fine. I have two mediums... one classic and one laptop. This is the size to get to carry just about anything. A complete change of clothes (including shoes... so you don't have to walk around in cleats) fits nicely.

| Great Bag - Unlike some of Timbuk2's other bags, these bags are made overseas. (Mine was made in Vietnam.) The medium bag is much larger than I expected. It is very roomy and I always have space to spare. The interior zippered panel pockets are very handy. However, I wish the main compartment could be divided into two sections so lunches wouldn't have to mix with shoes or other dirty stuff. The shoulder strap seems to dig a bit into my neck, but I have the same problem with car seat belts, so it could just be me. So far the bag seems durable enough that I could use it for several years. | |

| I've had my Timbuk2 for several years - and love it! It has plenty of room for all my stuff, is extremely durable and comes in fun color combinations. My boyfriend has had his eyes on mine for quite some time and with his birthday quickly approaching; I decided to treat him to one. I shopped around different internet sites and found Zappos to be most competitive in terms of pricing. I also liked the fact that shipping was free, both ways! By far though, the best part of my experience was the delivery process, which couldnt have been easier. My boyfriend loves his Timbuk2. Zappos was a great experience! | |

I've had my Timbuk2 for 10 tears know. It's not quite as black as it used to be, but it is by far the best wearing bag I have ever owned. It gets used almost evrey day. It's a large, old style with the detactable reflectors (use a zip tie to keep from losing them over the long term). The bag has held my books, my computer, clothes for a weekend, 12 pack of beer, a pant load of jelly shots, other peoples important papers, a small dog, etc. It cleans up very easy in a front loading washing machine. Nothing has ever broke or frayed on the bag.

| Great bag - First, this is an excellent bag! It's very durable and I am certain bullet proof. Being a student, it is not unusual to carry 4 or 5 texts and assorted junk. This item has room to spare! If it were to be improved, I would take some of the velcro off (I bought some strips to cover mine up) as it's a little noisy when opening. I would also put some rubber backing on the shoulder pad so it doesn't slip when "pursing". I took a long time to pick this bag and compared to about 100 other ones. Overall I am very pleased. | |

| "The bag looks good, holds a lot and is extremely durable. I can fit all of my books for school, a change of clothes for work, and a bunch of misc stuff that I might need and the bag still doesnt appear bulky. The only things that would make this bag better would be a zipper pocket on the flap." | |

the bag itself is great but i was very disappointed to find out that i had to order the strap extra. the 2008 timbuk2 bags now come with a padded strap but for some reason this site does not sell the 2008 bag. had i known this, i would have ordered the bag from elsewhere. however, after two attempts to have them ship me a replacement bag with the strap, i had to finally just order the strap additionally rather than return the bag and pay shipping again. 4 weeks later i now have my bag and strap.

Heads up, ladies! | |

Ok, this is for any serious cyclist ladies out there that are looking for a commuting bag on the bike: BIG HEADS UP ON THIS ONE: These bags were not designed for women (read: horribly uncomfortable chest strap. Expect serious boob crushage. No bueno, my friends, no bueno!) Also, I could not cinch the adjustment straps tight enough to keep the bag in place when going up steep hills (on flats, the bag pretty well stays in place). Otherwise, the durability and roominess of the pack is great. I use it as a day pack or gym bag, but I stick to the backpack for commuting.

I was less than impressed at the spartan padding for a bag whose uses suggests laptop carrier. Could have found cheaper bags for that purpose that were better equipped. Although the waterproofness is a good feature. I believe with this product you are paying for the name and hype...
