Great Shovel!

Rating:*****
This shovel is very durable. One of our favorite trail tricks is to split the end of a thumb sized stick, insert the shovel handle and cinch it down with some natural fibre string. Now you have a handle about three feet long, and the shovel can be used to retrieve coals from your fire for baking. We use this technique to make biscuits, pizza pockets and other stuff in a small skillet.

Of course it also does other shovel things pretty good (cat holes, fire holes, etc) but if you are into multi purpose durable kit this is a good buy.

Don't Leave Home Without It!

Rating:****
There a few items that stay in my backpack no matter what kind of trip I am taking, and this is one of them. Being prepared isn't just for Boy Scouts.

It is difficult to believe that something this lightweight could be this sturdy, but it is. No problems at all with the handle folding in on me while digging.

Good, Not Great

Rating:****
This is the shovel I have selected and used repeatedly on the trail. It is light weight and handy. The only downside is that in rocky soil, the handle lock tends to fail with moderate pressure. It takes getting used to. The handle should be strengthened by an improved design.

Great personal shovel.

Rating:*****
Great for cat holes. Doesn't break on rocks like other shovels can. Not quite as good for trenches and fire pits, but still works. I've been [*] with this shovel for 3 years and it hasn't let me down.

Great tool

Rating:*****
We have two and take them with us everywhere. Handy for hiking in the high country, but also used on long bicycle rides in the midwest. Compact, yet very sturdy!

can u dig it?

Rating:*****
This is one of the best tools I have. Can dig a camp fire, and be used as a spoon if need be.
