Volkl Kuro Skis

Skiing > DownhillRated: ***** by 1 review.

Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS)

The widest Ski available from Volkl®, the Kuro makes big turns in deep powder with ease

Features:

  • Elongated low profile, a Volkl exclusive, makes for easier smearing and better high speed control on both deep powder and hard surfaces
  • Multilayer wood core that features two different densities of wood for secure screw retention in the center of the ski
  • Poplar wood at the tips creates a flexible ski with greater snap
  • Powerbox construction uses vertical sidewalls for tremendous grip and stability
  • Straighter tail gives plenty of rear support and stability for big long turns and straightlining
  • Toughbox construction consists of a multilayer wood core and a fiberglass sheath for resilience and snap

The Kuro is back with a vengeance as the fatty in the Volkl freeride lineup, with ELP rocker and a new longer length to keep you stuck on the surface of bottomless fluff like an Alaskan oil slick. In powder that would hide the average toddler standing on a trash can, the Kuro’s decidedly un-svelte 132mm waist lets you float, smear, slarve, and otherwise play like it’s recess time. Volkl beefed up the Kuro’s construction for the 2010 season, adding extra insurance against binding and sidewall issues when you’re charging hard and tipping these gargantuan planks on edge.

Rating:*****

This ski is FAT, Rockered and probably the most fun ski I've ever ridden. If you are a skier that likes groomers and carving, this is not the ski for you! But, if you are looking to advance your big mtn skills by straight-lining Backcountry lines and smearing powder with speed, you will be in love with the Kuro! This ski is for the really advanced, a big mtn skier that has no problems pointing it and committing themselves downhill. The Kuro is fairly stiff throughout, so you'll feel confident at high speeds... no feeling of a soft, folding, fore body, over the bars sensation.
