Great sock

I took these socks to the Philippines two years ago. At that time, these socks were already 10 years old. They are absolutely indestructable! I chuck them into the wash every week and then into the dryer with no worries (as with wool). Now that they are approaching the 13 year mark, it is time to replace them. Over time, all socks lose their elasticity and nap over time, regardless as to the care taken in laundering and wear.
My primary use for these socks has been and will continue to be as a work sock and an occasionable hiking sock. They have taken a lot of abuse in my work books over the years.
I agree completely with the person who said these were not the best hiking sock for his needs. Ween hiking in difficult terrain, I must agree that wool wins hands down in its ability to remain "fluffy" and comfortable. All the synthetic socks I have seen are woven too tightly and as a result, lack this trait.
In summary, for the weekend enthusiast who enjoys a hike in their area, these win hands down. They are indestructable in the wash, comfortable and feel true to size.

Best Socks Ever

These are the best hiking socks I have ever worn. They are comfortable and provide just the right amount of cushion (I hate socks so thick I can't feel the bottom of my shoes/boots). My favorite aspect of these socks is their heat/moisture management. The only time I can wear wool is when I'm hiking in sub-freezing weather. If the temps are any higher then wool makes my feet sweat like a sauna.

As far as durability is concerned, I don't feel like I can truly comment on it. My oldest pair of Cool-lite Hikers is ~10 months and still in near new condition. If they last two years I'll consider them durable enough, but the comfort of the socks is so much better than anything else that I'll still buy them even if they don't last that long.

Perfect for traveling

Bought these for my husband and he RAVES about them, so I'm buying him another pair. Got them for him for traveling. He wanted something that would dry quickly (i.e. thin) but cushion while hiking (i.e. thick). These were the perfect mix! He's worn them every day (yes, literally) for 8 months. They are getting a little worn, so I'm ordering a new pair. But [$] to keep his feet happy for 8 entire months is worth it. He wears them to work, hiking, and travel. He's bought many socks, but these have been his favorites by far!

Great socks for trail running

I've relied upon my ultimax Wigwam Hiker Crew socks for several ultra marathons in the heat of the summer and in the cold New England Winters. I never blistered once in these socks even after running through streams with several hours left in a run. I've also used these socks for running road marathons. These are the first type of socks that have held up for me in all these demanding environments without causing friction blisters.

Recommendation: Wash them then hang them up to dry inside out. They'll last longer and keep some of their fluff.

Great for traveling and light hiking

Bought a few pairs to wear on an Alaskan cruise with a new pair of hikers. Wore these every day that we were in a port and put a good amount of time in walking everywhere we went. They kept my normally sweaty feet warm and dry. Very comfortable even after a long day of walking around the towns and parks. Never uncomfortable and appear to keep a good amount of fluff after washings, even when by hand. I'll be wearing these for everyday use now and buying some more!

They stay up and snug all day

These socks feel and fit great, even after a long day of hiking with a load. You never have to pull them up, yet they don't pinch at all. They wash and dry very well. I routinely have to pull dozens of cheetgrass stickers out of them, which has caused a few snags. But other than that, they have stood up extremely well to several years of hard use. I wish they came in different colors though.

Incredibly soft

I tried these as an alternative to the thorlo light hiking socks which tend to cause itching, above the ankle, as the day wears on. These are really soft and comfortable all day long. I am definitely using these as an everyday sock and a replacement for my cotton crew socks. Can't comment on durability, only had one pair for a couple of months. But definitely buying more of these.

Comfortable in all weather, no blisters!

I wore these for two weeks trekking in Peru, with a pair of LOWA Renegade boots. I only wore one pair (some people swear by doubling up) and couldn't have been more comfortable. Some of that is probably due to how well the boots fit me, but after 30 miles of uphill hiking and a week of wandering the Amazon rainforest, I have zero complaints about my feet.

Fantastic Sock

These socks are great. I have a hot foot and they do a great job of managing moisture and temperature for me. They are padded well enough for all but the most grueling backpacking trips. I'm a size 9.5 and I can wear either the MD or LG but I prefer the fit of the LG.

hold up forever

These socks held up great over a year of duty in Iraq, despite all types of laundering. They worked well in the heat and the cold. I wasn't carrying a load, but did a lot of walking. I would definitely recommend them for lasting, dependable wear.

Negative Reviews:

Better socks are out there...

I was not at all impressed with these socks. They offer little more padding than a pair of cotton socks, they did not breath nearly as well as I would have liked, and as for preventing blisters...I stopped mid hike and threw on a pair of liners. For the money, a few extra dollars for a pair of superwools is money well spent.
