Wigwam Cool-Lite Hiker Pro Sock Reviews:

Great sock

I took these socks to the Philippines two years ago. At that time, these socks were already 10 years old. They are absolutely indestructable! I chuck them into the wash every week and then into the dryer with no worries (as with wool). Now that they are approaching the 13 year mark, it is time to replace them. Over time, all socks lose their elasticity and nap over time, regardless as to the care taken in laundering and wear.
My primary use for these socks has been and will continue to be as a work sock and an occasionable hiking sock. They have taken a lot of abuse in my work books over the years.
I agree completely with the person who said these were not the best hiking sock for his needs. Ween hiking in difficult terrain, I must agree that wool wins hands down in its ability to remain "fluffy" and comfortable. All the synthetic socks I have seen are woven too tightly and as a result, lack this trait.
In summary, for the weekend enthusiast who enjoys a hike in their area, these win hands down. They are indestructable in the wash, comfortable and feel true to size.

Best Socks Ever

These are the best hiking socks I have ever worn. They are comfortable and provide just the right amount of cushion (I hate socks so thick I can't feel the bottom of my shoes/boots). My favorite aspect of these socks is their heat/moisture management. The only time I can wear wool is when I'm hiking in sub-freezing weather. If the temps are any higher then wool makes my feet sweat like a sauna.

As far as durability is concerned, I don't feel like I can truly comment on it. My oldest pair of Cool-lite Hikers is ~10 months and still in near new condition. If they last two years I'll consider them durable enough, but the comfort of the socks is so much better than anything else that I'll still buy them even if they don't last that long.

I wear these every day!

I wear these socks every day. I started out buying them because I was looking for a wool-free wicking hiking sock, and these fit the bill, while reasonably priced compared to the few other socks fitting this description. I wore them daily when I was vacationing in Scandinavia and doing lots of hiking and walking around, and when I got home I realized that I didn't really want to wear my "regular" socks anymore. So I splurged on several extra pairs of these, and I couldn't be happier. I've been wearing these for about 4 years and I don't think I've worn a pair out yet! They're just more comfortable than your average "casual" sock and also great for light hiking use.

Good socks

Just bought these and used them once for about two hours of trial hiking. The temperature was in the low twenties and I was wearing Wigwam Thermax Liner socks also and Patagonia low quarter A/C shoes. These socks were warmer than I expected. They felt good on this cool day including when I got into a continuous wind of about 10 mph. On the way home I stopped off for a movie without changing shoes/socks. When I left the theater two hours later the socks were damp. They performed very well on the trail but I had assumed they would be good for three season use and now I wonder if they'll be too warm for summer here. We'll see.

Great multi use socks

I love these socks. Every time there is a sale I buy more. In the summer they keep your feet dry. I have never had sweaty feet or a blister wearing these up to about 80 degrees. In the winter I have worn them down to about 40 degrees in non-insulated boots (while being active) and my feet stay warm. I've worn them into the low 30's in insulated boots as a single layer and been fine as well. Basically they keep my feet cool and dry in the heat and warm and dry in the cold. Best all around socks I have ever owned. A must have for hiking, backpacking, and everyday weekend adventures.

Perfect for traveling

Bought these for my husband and he RAVES about them, so I'm buying him another pair. Got them for him for traveling. He wanted something that would dry quickly (i.e. thin) but cushion while hiking (i.e. thick). These were the perfect mix! He's worn them every day (yes, literally) for 8 months. They are getting a little worn, so I'm ordering a new pair. But [$] to keep his feet happy for 8 entire months is worth it. He wears them to work, hiking, and travel. He's bought many socks, but these have been his favorites by far!

Great socks for trail running

I've relied upon my ultimax Wigwam Hiker Crew socks for several ultra marathons in the heat of the summer and in the cold New England Winters. I never blistered once in these socks even after running through streams with several hours left in a run. I've also used these socks for running road marathons. These are the first type of socks that have held up for me in all these demanding environments without causing friction blisters.

Recommendation: Wash them then hang them up to dry inside out. They'll last longer and keep some of their fluff.

Great for traveling and light hiking

Bought a few pairs to wear on an Alaskan cruise with a new pair of hikers. Wore these every day that we were in a port and put a good amount of time in walking everywhere we went. They kept my normally sweaty feet warm and dry. Very comfortable even after a long day of walking around the towns and parks. Never uncomfortable and appear to keep a good amount of fluff after washings, even when by hand. I'll be wearing these for everyday use now and buying some more!

My go-to sock for work, fitness walking!

What a difference these socks make! I wear them daily on my job as a water plant operator. They keep my feet at the perfect temperature in both warm and cool weather. My feet stay comfortable, dry and blister-free in my work boots while while I run around the plant, up and down stairs and climb ladders. I also wear them on my daily fitness walks and while backpacking and hiking. I wouldn't leave home without them. Thank you Wigwam!

They stay up and snug all day

These socks feel and fit great, even after a long day of hiking with a load. You never have to pull them up, yet they don't pinch at all. They wash and dry very well. I routinely have to pull dozens of cheetgrass stickers out of them, which has caused a few snags. But other than that, they have stood up extremely well to several years of hard use. I wish they came in different colors though.

Negative Reviews:

Better socks are out there...

I was not at all impressed with these socks. They offer little more padding than a pair of cotton socks, they did not breath nearly as well as I would have liked, and as for preventing blisters...I stopped mid hike and threw on a pair of liners. For the money, a few extra dollars for a pair of superwools is money well spent.
MegaKarl at REI on 09/09/2007

Not a good hiking sock

This product did not work well as a hiking sock. I am planning a trek this summer and tried to save on expenses during prep. Went on a 4.5 mile hike on even terrain in well worn in boots and got blisters for my effort. Don't cheap out. Get the Merino wool socks. More cost but less pain in the feet.

Socks are just too small

not for me

A good sock but I was looking for a hiking sock that offers more support to my high arch foot. I will use these socks but not for what I purchased them for.
kls at REI on 12/12/2013

comfortable but snags easily

These socks did everything the ad said BUT they were easily snagged by weeds and twigs and now look really messy after one wearing.
Bobbie at Campmor on 05/05/2013

Too stretchy

I would recommend this to women with feet at the larger end of the size range.
