Love this reel

First picked up a 3000 with a 7'2" flats blue rod. Very impressed with the sensitivity and smoothness. A few days later I picked up a 7'6" with a 3500. I love this set up even more. Very smooth drag system and with the 3500 I have yet to get a wind knot using 15lb fins windtamer after a good 40-50 hours of fishing. The same can't be said about the 3000 though as that reel seems prone to wind knots even with the windtamer costing me time and money by untangling knots/loosing lures and line. I'm not sure if it's due to the diameter of the spool or what but I'd recommend sticking with the 3500. I'm about to order another one and already have a 4000 on the way to pair with a 7'9".

Great Reel - super price

I initially purchased this reel to pair with a Wright & McGill Flats blue rod. I opted for the 4000 model. After taking it out several times, I went back and got another 3500 model for another one of my poles. It is extremely smooth and ergonomically comfortable. I primarily use this reel on my combos set up for florida fishing in the flats and mangroves. Typically yielding trout and reds. I have also used it along the jetties. Because the jetties and flats can get a bit windy here in Florida, I paired both reels with the Fins windtamer braided, in 12lb and 15lb test. This line effortlessly feeds both in and out of the reel. The one thing constantly running through my mind when using this reel is, SMOOTH! Across the board, great reel.

never hesitated!!

this reel is unbelievable! super smooth...tough, durable, and let me tell ya: I had a house fire and literally lost everything...this reel, along with a johnson country mile were a few of the "recognizeable" items found.....yes, i lost everything, and didnt hesitate to go to Dick's the next week to order me another one exactly like it....i geared up and got the rod to match it!!!...absolutely the most perfect set up i have ever felt...ive only used it in freshwater, kind of to warm it up for some serious inshore on the NC and SC coast!!!,,,great reel and rod, didnt break the bank too awfully bad...i feel its well worth what i spent!!

Sabalos 3000 spinning reel

I needed a light, rust resistant spinning reel for spotted sea trout and red fish up to 30 inches. Penn reels have a great saltwater reputation, but they are too heavy to cast all day. I cannot comment on durability, but the reel is smooth, holds enough 10# line, and may be more resistant to rust. So far, so good!

Best reel I've had

Was pretty excited about this reel. Fish with friends who are diehard shimano and holds up well to the sahara and even to the stradic from what ive found. Wanted something different from them and first day caught a 7 pound bass no sweat. Mostly bought to catch reds though.

reel review

I bought this reel to go along with the rod I purchased form you and it fits nicely and the action is super. I use it to catch trout, redfish and snook. It is excellent and handles like a more expensive rod would.

Gonna buy two more

This is a wonderfull lightweight reel with a nice smooth drag that will handle any redfish. just match it with a W & M rod and hold on tight. I am going to buy two more before spring.

Negative Reviews:

Re-review after several months

After buying and owning 6 W&M sabalos/flats blue set ups I feel like I need to do another comment. These reels, although they're stated to hold up to salt water, really don't. I've had 3 reels fail me over a couple months due to water getting inside the reel and rusting it. Not only this but the outside is prone to corrosion as well. While they are super smooth, light, and good drag, I can't give this anything but 1 star for the way they are prone to dying in salt water. I'm a kayak fisherman and I need something to hold up against harsh conditions. I rinse them off thoroughly after every trip yet they still don't hold up. Just don't plan on getting these splashed with saltwater, ever.
