Good solid set-up | |

Used Low Riders from a 2004 Grand Cherokee, but had to purchase longer bars (58" vice the 48" I had) in order to accommodate the wider roof-line of the 2008 Liberty (so much for the definition of "grand"???) Anyway, old end-caps and Low Riders transferred w/o problem and BackCountry's order was fulfilled rapidly and price was right. A good solid set up...and roof-line will fit two kayaks w/o problem.

Not factory bars, thank goodness

I ordered these bars for my Mazda MPV so my wife could haul her mountain bike around. We started our vacation this summer before I had a chance to install these bars. Five miles down the road the box on the factory bars started to vibrate and thump the roof of the car. Turned around and installed these bars and never had a problem since.

Bar review | |

So far, the Yakima system I put together from 3 different suppliers has worked just fine. I bought most components from this site as was pleased with the price. The system is fairly easy to setup and feels sturdy enough to not worry about putting my new Cannondale on. I certainly would purchase this whole setup again.

Super solid and tough cross bar. I dig the round Yakima over the Square Thule... not sure why, Just seems more sturdy, more aerodynamic, more compatible and IMO better looking.

It's a bar... | |

It is round, it is long, it is sturdy, and it is solid. I most definitely trust my bike on these bars. Installed on a 07 GMC Envoy. But kind of dumb end caps are not included. Is it that hard to include 50 cents worth of round plastic?

Needs to be More Rust Resistent
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I've had a number of sets of Yakima bars over the past couple of decades. And the RUSTING, and decomposition of the crossbars, is the number one problem I have with this rack system. Eventhough, the steel tubing that the bars are made of is galvanized tubing, they still RUST... When they use a chop saw to cut the lengths of tubing the cut ends are exposed and this vulnerable area of the tube end rusts, and destroys the bar. And the cheap plastic end caps actually contribute to the rusting problems. The least Yakima could do is use integrated bar ends. I wish they would make the anodized aluminum bars again. But it's been about 20 years since I've seen them around. | |
