Not only does the Yakima DoubleDown 4 Bike Rack carry four rigs to the trailhead, it also folds out of the way so you can get into the back of your car without going over the back seat. When you're not hauling around a bunch of cross country bikes or big downhill rides, the DoubleDown's support bars fold down to and say out of the way. Yakima used their SwitchBlade anti-sway cradles to keep the bikes from bumping into each other like kids fighting in the back seat.

I have been researching bike rack for rear trailer hitch.

The fact that this rack comes from the factory compatible with both an 1.25" and 2" receiver is great. Sharing between two cars with different sized receivers is a non-issue, just use or remove the provided adapter and install.

Nice "Rack" | |

| the rack it itself is actually great, easy and simple to use. it's not as stable as an other brand of rack that i borrowed, but that other rack only works w/2" hitch. i have a 2" hitch so it being adjustable to the 1 1/2" was not a selling point. What i disliked the most was that you can't use the standard hitch pin lock w/ this item, you have to spend more $$ and buy a lock made by "YAK". they do though have a cool kit that includes the lock for the rack and a cable that locks the bikes to the rack,of course for more $$. we bought this item last minute so we didn't get to research or shop around. i think item is kind of pricey. | |

I'd have to say that this is the sturdiest bike rack I've used. I'm using a 2 inch hitch for this with my Prius.

This item is a good value for the price

| The directions for installing are good. I bought this bike rack on sale and you couldn't build a similiar product for what I paid for it. The features are great and it is easy to fit the rack into a 2 inch hitch. There is a little sway in the rack which was a concern for me at first. I haven't tried it, but I think it would be more difficult to load and adjust four adult bikes. | |

After a few weeks I discovered I was missing a few straps for strapping-up the bikes (missing from the factory).

Exactly what I was looking for

Best balance of cost and features out there. Everything works perfectly, fold-down arms are easy to operate, construction is solid. The hitch connection is a tiny bit wobbly in my receiver (that's what she said!) but it can be remedied with a couple strips of duct tape. Holds 4 bikes easily and the hold-down and anti-sway work great (especially compared top the 5-year-old model I had previously).

Awesome Bike Rack! | |

| It would get five stars if it didn't loosen up so soon - it was purchases in late June. We installed it with an extra washer so it's not loose left and right, but it's loose up and down. However, it's still a great deal! It's sturdy and so easy to use. I sometimes I forget I have it on! | |

"Does exactly what it's designed to do"

| High quality bike rack. The bikes are fairly easy to add and remove. You have to work a bit to get 4 full size bikes to fit, but they will. The hitch has a bolt and washer which really makes the rack sturdy, but can be a pain if you are adding and removing it all the time. Works great for me. | |

not for all hitch recievers ...
| Rating: | ![]() |
| while the product seemed perfect, the proprietary hitch tongue receiver pin will only work if you have easy access to your hitch. on my Mini Cooper (and i would guess any vehicle with a hitch that is not openly exposed under the bumper), the hitch is inside the bumper, so the non-standard, screw-type receiver pin is not do-able. looks like a fine product - but not for every hitch!!! | |

Hard to Fit 4 Bikes | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| We've mounted to the hitch of our Yukon XL. The fit is OK, but there is some slop such that the rack sways about 10 degrees. It is not easy to fit four bikes on this rack. We have one adult road bike, one adult hybrid, and two children's mountain bikes. I can get them all on, but it takes me a good 15 minutes of trial and error. It's easy to fit two or three bikes, but for four, it's like a jigsaw puzzle to get them all on. If you plan to regularly take four bikes, spend the extra [$] to the get the 5-bike version. It will be minimal money very well spent. The rack is not light either - probably about 40 pounds. However, except for the sway, it's well built and very solid. There's nothing flimsy about this product.I have some regret not spending the extra bucks to get the Swing Daddy, however. It is inconvenient not being able to access our hatchback while the bikes are on the rack. While you can tilt down the loaded rack for access, it's probably not recommended by Yakima, and it's definitely not easy to prop-up nearly 85 pounds of bikes back into the upright position. | |

Just OK | |

| It is really designed for a small hitch. When you put the adaptor bracket on it for the two inch hitch the rack leans out/down about ten degrees so if you hit medium to large city bumps the rack will bounce within the hitch besides bouncing with the vehicle. This can really bounce the bikes. | |
