Q: Do I need any tools to install it?
A: Nope.
Q: What size is right for my vehicle?
A: Check the Fit List first. The size has to do with looks more than function, as any size will effectively reduce wind noise. When in doubt, measure the top of your windshield and make your best judgment. Guidelines for choosing a fairing are: 1. The feet must touch the roof, 2. The brackets must attach to crossbars with no interference, and 3. There should not be contact with siderails or vehicle roof. Using a different size will not affect the warranty, as long as these guidelines are followed.
Q: How much will it reduce wind noise?
A: The fairings can reduce wind noise and vibration UP TO 85%. Actual reductions will vary from vehicle to vehicle.
Q: What maintenance should be performed on the fairing?
A: We recommend periodic tightening of the hex keys to make sure they are tight. It is also a good idea to clean the bottom side of the pads that touch your roof to make sure there is no dirt, etc that can scratch the paint.
Q: How can I mount this with other accessories without interference?
A: There are many ways to mount a Fairing to achieve the best fit and avoid interference. The Fairing should be mounted just below the level of the top of the crossbars so that long loads and accessories can pass over the top. You may also need to install some accessories reversed to allow them to fit with a fairing. Download the product instructions for more information.
Q: Why did you switch to the new type of fairing?
A: The new design can be mounted farther back on the roof over painted surfaces, where the previous style would cause damage. As more cars are designed with a jelly-bean shape and with the increase in factory installed rack on vehicles, it was a necessary transition.
Q: Can I move my front crossbar to help the Fairing fit better?
A: If you are using Q Towers, or any other system where the bar placement is already specified, do not move the front crossbar, as doing so can make the rack unsafe.
Q: Wow, those fairings are expensive, got anything cheaper?
A: We do have the WindJammer, which is less expensive but will not reduce noise as much.

We’re all for whistling. It makes you happier. It calms you down. And it reduces your blood pressure. Unless it’s your rack that’s doing the whistling. Then it’s a major freaking annoyance that needs to be eradicated immediately with a fairing.

Noise reduction | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
There are two ways to get rid of wind noise from car racks--Get some good speakers and turn up the volume or install a fairing, Yak or Thule on your rack bars. The fairing is also a nice place to put stickers for whatever else you think is cool. The fairing from Yak works as good as the better looking one from Thule. Hey, all they do is direct fast flowing air over the rack bars. Without the bars, fast flowing air howls, screams and whines. (That's where the good speakers come in handy.) It's all simple aerodynamics. Direct the air flow over the round or square thing that is not aerodynamic and things will settle down. Ask the U. S. Air Force. Ask all those aliens that have those flying saucer things. They know.

| I never had any type of whistling when I had my rack on my last car, so I never knew what the big deal was about a fairing. Then I got my new car and couldn't believe the amount of noise that can be created by a roof rack! While the fairing seems a bit pricy, if you have a whistling roof rack this is so worth it. Since I commute mostly on the highway, most of my commute was just noise drowning out my stereo, now it is music that I want to hear and no whistle. One drive and you will be a believer too! Hmmm, I bet a cool MOOSEJAW sticker would look really cool on that fairing... | |

Do the math, get a faring, save the world
| Rating: | ![]() |
Roof racks rob you of gas milage, most folks who love the outdoors are also concerned with the overall state the of the world. Here is some simple math. My faring increase my gas milage by 1 mpg (from 19 t 20), at $60.00 and $3.00 gas the faring pays for it self after 7220 miles. Americans average about 15,000 miles per year, so the faring pays for it self after six months. Of course this is very simple math, it ignores several variables which are beyond my calculation here, but I think the general concept is sound.

When I bought my rack I was told that "some anal people feel that have to have them" So I may be one of those but really I don't know how anyone can have a rack and not a fairing. It made of world of difference. You can actually drive with the window down or the sunroof open and enjoy it again. My Aunt and Uncle even borrowed my car before I purchased that fairing and both were appalled at the noise. I would not have a rack without one.

I have the 32" fairing, and it fits perfectly between the side rails of my 05 Outback (clipped on to my Lowrider rack). The fairing reduces noise, and completes the look of the rack. It's also a great place for your goat stickers!!

NO MORE NOISE | |

I dont know what it is about my car, but when Im going over 30 with my rack on top it starts screaming at me like a jumbo jet is gonna land overhead. I didnt know what to do until one day someone explained that the sticker covered piece of plastic in front of their rackthe fairingwasnt just a portable sticker holder. This thing rocks completely eliminates all the sound that my rack made, and neatly stores all or my stickers for me!

Yakima Fairing 38'' | |

| I spend a lot of my time in my car including on the highway. I went for several weeks with just the basic rack system until the wind noise drove me crazy. The Fairing only took about 5 min to assemble and install. Its been on my roof now for several months and still looks like new, oh and yea the wind noise has been reduced about 95%. Its worth the extra money and it does make my '89 Camry look sporty. | |

If your rack makes noise at highway speeed this will fix it.

| I had a noise problem with my previous vehicle and the Yakima fairing fixed it. My new truck needs one but a larger size so I bought my second Fairing. It went on easy and looks great. Since it streamlines the aerodynamics where its most important it saves enough on gas millage to make it free in the end. Combine that with the points and free shipping Moosejaw gives you and its a no brainer. | |

a MUST HAVE if you get a roof rack

| after installing a rack on my '06 civic, it quickly became apparent that you have to buy the fairing. i could barely hear myself think at >45mph before i bought one. now, i think the wind noise is actually quieter than before i even had the rack. i've found no noticeable reduction in gas mileage either. i always wondered why people were willing to spend so much on a piece of plastic. i found out. | |

Saves Gas mileage, whistles
| Rating: | ![]() |
Not sure exactly how the gas mileage thing worked, but its obvious, more wind resistant, less gas mileage, and with all that wind getting trapped under your skis or boards or whatever, it definitely helps. I believe this is also the part of my roof rack that whistles when driving over 40-45 mph. Its a real killer when you drive 10-15 k miles a year with it on, so if your not as patient as I, make sure to plug up even more holes where wind rushes through

It does the job and makes the rack look great. It probably eliminates 60% of that whistle you'll get without it. Although if you are handy and don't care about looks, I suggest buying an acrylic sheet and make this yourself. Yakima and Thule are rip offs, but you won't find it anywhere cheaper than backcountry.

Vibrating but quiet | |

Looks good and prevents whistling noises, but I reached up through the sunroof at 70mph and it was vibrating like a guitar string! I'm not thrilled about the little pads that ride on the car's finish, but I don't think they will cause any damage.

Yakima Fairing | |

Got these for my 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser. The Yakima racks are sitting on top of the factory racks using Yakima Low Riders and the racks are too high for the fairing.
