Q: What keeps a boat from rolling off when being carried?
A: The Rollers lock in place and do not roll when locked.Q: How many pairs of
HullyRollers do I need?
A: Two pairs of HullyRollers, or a pair combined with a pair of Mako Saddles,
will carry one boat.Q: When should I use a bow/stern tiedown?
A: Every time! It is essential to tie a boat's ends to the ends of the vehicle
to stabilize a boat against the hurricane-force winds created by traveling at
highway speed. While any non-elastic tie down that is strong enough can be used,
a Bow/Stern Tiedown makes the job easy and takes good care of the car.Q: What
type of boat will the HullyRollers carry?
A: HullyRollers are intended for any kayak with a rigid hull.Q: What type of material
will the HullyRollers carry?
A: The rollers are padded with Dynaflex (a soft composite material) for sure grip
and long wear, the frames are glass-reinforced nylon and aluminum construction,
and the attachment hardware is a mix of stainless steel and brass. Too bad cars
aren't made like this.Q: Can I use HullyRollers on my car?
A: Load capacity varies by vehicle. Look in the Fit List to see what accessories
can be used on your vehicle. If "kayaks" are on the list, then HullyRollers
are appropriate.

Yakima Hully Rollers are the most righteous thing to happen to boat racks this millennium. Hully Rollers are pivoting U-joint rollers that make loading and unloading your boat a breeze, and fit any hull shape. Save your arm strength for paddling. Brake levers lock the rollers into a fixed position for a secure grip, and padded buckles protect both the boat and vehicle from scratches. Install Hully Rollers quickly and easily onto round OR square bars. Sold in pairs (1 left, 1 right) so you can combine them with Yakima Mako Saddles (put the Makos on the front bar) or another pair of Hully Rollers.

The Yakima Hullyrollers Boat Rollers enable you to slide your boat onto the roof, making loading easier than pie. And when you add mako saddles securing your boat is easier than pie, tarts, donuts, cupcakes, or pretty much any form of pastry.

Load a boat easily to the top of a car with the Yakima(r) Hullyroller. It combines with any top of car rack for simple, quick, secure transportation of a boat. On the next boating trip be sure to use the Yakima(r) Hullyroller to make loading simple.

Yakima Hulley Rollers | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
I recently purchased a set of the Hulley Rollers for my kayak - a Wilderness Systems Pungo 140. I must say the rollers make loading and unloading much faster and enjoyable than the old way using the foam blocks. The yak is always centered on the bars. Cuts down the loading time to approx. 10 minutes from start to finish! The only downside is that the whole roller assembly tends to roll on the Yakima mounting bar regardless of how tight you torque the wing nuts down. I remedied the situation by wrapping the bar with black duct tape then placing the roller assembly over the tape. This gives the roller assembly something to "bite" into. No more moving around on the bar! Awesome product. Also great service - had the rollers w/in a couple of days from when the order was placed w/o any special shipping instructions. This is my second time ordering from BackcountryStore.com - I'll definitely be ordering again.

Bowdown and Rollers/Saddles together
| Rating: | ![]() |
Originally I purchased two sets of rollers and two sets of aero saddles. I have an Expedition and the two boats did not fit together up top (too wide). So, Plan B. We used one set of rollers and one set of saddles for the large fishing kayak (55 lbs). This made loading it on the roof rack REALLY EASY. Next we used the Yakima "Bowdown" for the regular size kayak (45 lbs). So we have one kayak flat and one kayak on its side. Both load easy and both work really well.Don't be afraid to mix and match your Yakima racks. I found the Yakima far superior to the Thule. Hope this review helps

Secure & Easy | |

| Got these after a set of the old style Hull Raisers failed on the highway in a bad thunderstorm. Kind of arse puckering when your yak is hanging down on the passengers side of your vehicle banging at 60mph in a torrential downpour on a multi-lane highway. Yakima was great, they warranteed it and offered to replace it with the new style Bowdown rack. There was no way my wife was going for another vertical style rack, so I opted for a set of Hull Rollers with a pair of Mako Saddles. Great setup if you don't need to carry multiple boats. | |

| It all started in high school. I got my first set of Yakima roof racks for my surfboards and the love affair is still going after 21 years! Yes my Yakimas have even outlasted my marriage. They haven't ever left me broke , depressed or high and dry! So when I decided to make my purchase here at Moosejaw I knew I was in for a quality product! The service was great! Now only if I could find a woman who could treat me as good as the folks at Yakima and Moosejaw? | |

Sounds like a name out of Guys and Dolls

I kinda laughed at the thought of these when I first saw them, but after I watched my girl try to put her boat on top of her dads Tahoe I understand their use. These things are great to help with ancient monster boats which seem to way more than solid lead, and they totally help the more petite bodies out there to throw their boats up on huge cars with ease. Theyre also super stable when you tie your boat down. A great idea built super functional.

| I recently made a 1300 mile trip from Carlsbad, NM to Moab, UT and back. I carried my kayak using a pair of Mako Saddles and Hully Rollers. Whether driving 75 mph into a 20 - 30 mph wind on Westbound I40 or doing 70 with a strong side wind on US 285, the kayak never budged. I could look through the sunroof see how stable it was. Great product. | |

Hully Rollers Float My Boat
| Rating: | ![]() |
This product makes loading and unloading a kayak by yourself very easy. I have two sets on my 4Runner with Landsharks on the front. Get the boat on the rollers and just roll it up on the roof. Works great, everytime. I'm never going back to saddles. I find you have to lube the roller bushings regularly with silicone based lube for best performance.

Thank goodness for these little devices! Now my husband doesn't have to help me position my boat on pads or rails on my car - I can roll the boat up there all by myself! Awesome!

HullyRollers Don't Roll
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I bought two pair of these for my parent's who can no longer lift boats over their heads. Unfortunately, the rollers rely on bushings instead of bearings, and most of the time don't roll with the kayak/canoe (they are used for both). I find it difficult to slide the kayak forward and back on the car owing to the rollers lack of roll. You're better off buying some Teflon blocks for your rack over these things. These will be getting swapped out for next season. The only positive I'd note is the rollers have universal joints allowing them to match the hull of the boat, and seem to be sold when supporting a 60lbs boat going down dirt roads. | |

Not as useful as I'd hoped.

| I have a 9' Ocean (43 lbs) and a 16' Wilderness Systems (54 lbs). I bought the Hullyrollers to use with the Mako Saddles so that it would be easier to put my boats on my Jeep. The saddles are fine, but the rollers are difficult to say the least. The rubber wheels seem to want to grip the boat rather than let it travel, and the boats' weights are apparently too much for the rollers, which will at some times not turn at all (yes, I made sure the locks were off) and torque my factory crossbar until I have to pick the boat up off of the rollers and let the saddles do all the work. I was happier with my [$] pads. So far, I'm a little dissappointed in this system after having invested so much money in it. | |

Nice for the solo boater or if you have to carry lots of boats.
| Rating: | ![]() |
| Nice if you have to load your boat by yourself or if you are loading a boat in the middle of the rack with other stuff on either side. For example, I used to sets of Hully Rollers with two sets of Makos and one set of Hullraisers to carry a total of three sea kayaks. Two people can easily just lift a kayak into place on the side of the car, but putting a kayak in the middle of the rack pretty much requires something like the Hully rollers. They're a bit of a pain to set up, so if you have to remove them from the rack or adjust them frequently, it's not so great. If you can leave them in place, or if you have to load the boat yourself, they're awesome! | |

Some cautions | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
We use these at the back with saddles in front for our sea kayaks. While they work well when loading, they do not secure the kayak as well as the saddles underway--especially in the wind. We make trips from Wisconsin to South Dakota and other western states and the wind is usually strong. In addition, they don't "mold" to the hull shape as well, and have caused a permanent indentation in the bottom of my wife's kayak. We're going to saddles front and rear. For shorter trips or where wind is not a problem these rollers are great.

Pros and Cons | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
My wife and I both have kayaks and use the rollers on the back and saddles on the front bars. Loading and unloading is the advantage, but the rollers can put a dent in your kayak if you leave it tied down on the rack too long. Rollers are NOT the thing to use on long trips in my opinion.
