Make Other Bike Mounts Jealous!

Rating:*****
First of all, using a roof rack beats the hell out of throwing my bike in the back of my little two-door sports coupe.

Second, this mount is fantastic. It's a bit of a pain to get it on the rack because it requires a lot of loosening, then a lot of tightening, but if you're not the type to randomly remove things from the places where they belong, then that shouldn't be a problem.

Once it's on the rack, it's awesome. Other, lesser bike mounts are envious of this mount because it's sleeker, the fork mounting system can be adjusted using only one hand, and it's rock solid once the bike is on. I mean it -- there's no doubt that the bike is going absolutely nowhere once you lock it in.

I haven't had any problems with fitting bikes on this mount. There's a cutaway near the fork mount that accommodates for most disc brake calipers, and I haven't yet mounted a bike that didn't fit.

Putting your bike on this mount will undeniably be the easiest part of your bike ride.

Nice Rack

Rating:*****

This is an excellent fork mounting rack for the money. I have one of these as well as a Yakima Copperhead and this is far superior. Installation is extremely simple and no tools are needed. The locking skewer is a great design to deter theft and using the SKS lock only makes it safer. The rack is extremely durable, like most of Yakima's products. I have had mine for over two years and it is in great shape. You won't regret picking this one up.

Solid bike mount with locking cabilities

Rating:****
I've had one of these mounted to my Honda Civic on and off for about 5 years and it's weathered well under the Texas sun. Though the red plastic pieces have faded, the integrity haven't been compromised.

Since it's lockable it's great if you leave your vehicle outside or you want to secure your bike during errands after a ride.

"Perfect if you have V-brakes"

Rating:*****
I moved up from the Raptor style mounts. BIG improvement. When you grab your bike and give it a shake with these bad boys, the whole car shakes with it. Plus it looks way less grandpa with the fork mounts. Make sure you get the lock cores, though; without 'em, unscrupulous sorts can make off with your bikes AND mounts.

"Essential - plus makes your car look much cooler"

Rating:****
Bought myself a pair of these and couldn't be happier. Mounts easily, very simple to use, and builds shoulder muscles slinging the bikes up on the roof of an old SUV. Highly recommend getting the SKS cores too or else you'll keep running to the window to check on your bikes while eating a post-ride lunch at the nearby cafe.

"Fantastic product, price, and shipping"

Rating:*****
THANKS FOR MAKING THIS PURCHASE EASY. THE PRICE WAS GREAT AND I DIDN'T HAVE TO WAIT LONG FOR MY NEW RACK TO ARRIVE. THE ONLY THING I COULD RECOMMEND IS THAT WITH THE YAKIMA CONFIGURATION TOOL YOU COULD MAKE IT EASIER TO BLOCKEDKEYWORDTHE COMPONENTS YOU DESIRE AND THEN PURCHASE FROM THERE INSTEAD OF HAVING TO HUNT THEM DOWN.
Bradley at Moosejaw on 05/04/2006

Easy to use, reliable, secure.

Rating:*****
Peace of mind. I've had the steelhead for 7 years. Once you mount and secure your bike, it will stay on the mount. No doubts. Easy to place on the rack system too. Wide deep channel for the rear tire provides stability for locating the fork onto the skewer. Excellent product. 4.73 stars!

"Would buy another"

Rating:*****
I bought Copperhead and loved it, but needed another mount. I saw that the steel head needed no tools to install. I put it on my car as soon as it arrived. This mount is very easy to install and I will probably buy another.

"Good option for an inexpensive rack mount."

Rating:****
Well made product. Can be somewhat difficult to get the fork into the skewer when working over your head on a rack. Fairly easy to install. Insanely fast shipping, arrived at my house before I got the tracking number in my email!
Matthew at Moosejaw on 05/27/2008

Solid locking and easy to use.

Rating:****
I know several people with Yakama systems and they had nothing but good things to say about them. I have had the Steelhead for a couple of years now and I have no complaints. Good solid construction and easy to use.

If you have two bikes...

Rating:***
I wouldn't categorize myself as an avid cyclist, but I have two bicycles: one road bike and one more-or-less hybrid. The rack is stable and seems durable. My only frustration is that the quick-release skewer is designed to adjust to the bike's front fork size, then clamp on with just a flick of the quick-release lever. Sounds super simple, unless you have two different forks with two different sizes. Then you have to adjust the skewer every time you switch. I don't entirely know what the solution is, but my friend has a Thule, and it isn't a problem when I put either one of my bikes on her rack.

not for all forks

Rating:***
i loved these bike racks until i got a new mtn. bike with disc brakes and a bigger fork: it wouldn't latch down. we took a simple fork mount and replaced the original one and now it works well. it doesn't do the nice locking thing though so we have made modifications in other ways.
