Even when it's loaded with bikes, the Yakima Swingdaddy 4 Bike Rack moves out of the way to allow access to the back of your car or SUV. Unlike other hitch racks that have to be unloaded and folded down to let you open the back of your rig, the Swingdaddy Bike Rack folds to the side much like a spare-tire rack. Thanks to this Yakima rack, you don't have to unload all of your bikes at a gas station when you realize two-hours into your trip that you left your iPod in the pack that's under everything else.

Positive Reviews:

The swing out feature works great!

Rating:****
Originally we weren't sure we wanted to spend the extra dollars to get a hitch rack with the swing out feature. After using it, we're glad we got that feature. It made accessing the back of our minivan much easier. Everything works smoothly, no creaky mechanism, exactly as advertised.

Negatives were relatively minor. The stowable lock cable wouldn't retract into the storage hole all the way. Not a big issue, we leave the cable out and lock it to the bike carrier arms for storage. Hope the lock cable storage hole doesn't trap rain and rust out the rack from within. Also, the wrenches that come with the rack aren't very good quality. Use your socket wrench instead.

Overall, easy to install, generally good quality parts, holds bike very securely. It's overkill for the level of our usage but I'd recommend it to anyone who will use their hitch rack often.

"Great product, great website, comedy for free"

Rating:*****
This bike trailer kicks ass ! I love being able to access the back of the minivan while all our gear remains loaded, a real lifesaver when traveling with kids. Also very easy to load and unload. The only downside is that the rubber straps have left some marks on our bikes from sunfading or something like that. I don't particularly care what the finish on the bikes looks like, and I doubt that most people do, but if it mattered to you I would put a washcloth or some other protective material between the straps and the bike frames. This was my first time shopping from moosejaw, and it was a great experience. Aside from having the lowest price around cheaper than any local merchant could

Easy To Set Up, Easy To Use

Rating:****
I did a bit of research first and, while I debated whether to pay the extra money, in the end, I'm fairly certain I made a good choice. The rack was actually much easier to install than I thought. It feels very solid and the liftgate of our GMC Acadia clears nicely when the rack is swung away. The integrated locking cable could be a bit longer. Also the four bike capacity is dependent on the size of the bikes but overall this claim is plausible. I would have to say I am, so far, pleased with this product.

this rack rocks

Rating:*****

I decided on the swingdaddy over the others because of its larger size and features. It was super easy to install and use. The rack does not sway on the road and moves out of the way when you need to get in the truck for your gear. I LOVE this rack and do recommend it to all the world. If you can get your hands one one of these baby's

Swingdaddy

Rating:*****

This is a great bike rack! Easy to mount, bikes are steady and the swinging feature is fabulous! So very glad we spent the extra money! We also ordered the deadlock and hitchlock which later we found out the rack already came with. Yipee! So those items we returned which, by the way, was a breeze! Thanks Backcountry!

Swing Daddy Baby!

Rating:*****

The rack is great exactly what I wanted. The only issue I have had is the chain straps somehow stained my Pearl paint on our road bikes. Maybe use a rag or towel in between if you have expensive paint! Otherwise it is awesome!!!!

Very Sturdy!

I am very impressed with the Swing Daddy. It is very functional and easy to use. The bikes are very stable when being transported, makes it so easy to travel with your bike or four bikes!

Negative Reviews:

Are you kidding me!!!

Rating:*
OK, this comment isn't about Yakima's innovative design, ease of use or the really cool features it possesses, like the bottle opener on the end of the support bar(that is pretty cool).
NO, this product comment is about the incredible short sightedness of design.
I own one of the most popular SUV's on the planet (Toyota 4Runner) and it has a spare tire mounted underneath the rear cargo space which happens to be close to the rear hitch. My factory trailer hitch mount fits perfectly (of course it would) and is acceptable to pull trailers & U-Hauls... but a bike a Yakima Swing Daddy bike rack? it does not line up and lock into place!
So, if you don't have a spare tire mounted underneath the cargo space OR if you have power tools which can cut through 1/8" steel ( which VOIDS the warranty), THIS MIGHT BE THE BIKE RACK FOR YOU!
I have had Yakima racks since the eary 1990's and have always thought them to be superior to all the other racks on the market but here they have come up short, WAY SHORT!

Not Women Bike Friendly

Rating:*

The SwingDaddy does not accommodate women bikes and bikes that do not have the straight frame that goes from the handle bar to the seat. Women bikes do not have gaps in between frames that most Men bikes have that will hang on to the SwingDaddy. You need to buy a $35 worth accessorry (SORRY) and I find that unfriendly at all. I had to buy 3 of those for my wife and 2 girls and you just can imagine the shock I had when upon purchasing the 4 bikes from a local bike store, the 3 women bikes wouldn't mount. The accessory should come free or at least built-in to the price or discounted when you buy the SwingDaddy.

Jeep Wrangler

Rating:**
I own a 2007 Jeep Wrangler and it does not fit with the swing away spare tire. Not only is the hitch insert too short, it is recommended not to be used with a hitch extender. Even if you decide to use a hitch extender, you still would not be able to open the swing away tailgate as the spare tire will also hit the top of the rack when extended. Thule fits fine and exchanged for the Thule Swing Away. Be careful with any swing away spare tire or tailgate.

Buy the less expensive model

Rating:**
Pretty easy to install, heavy construction, feels sturdy.
2 problems – when you swing the carrier to the side with bikes on it, it’s too heavy to secure again. You need to pull off all the bikes anyway, so buy a cheaper one!
Second problem is that with all the new frames on bikes, especially kids, some bikes will not securely fit on large support arms.

Not Exactly Women Bike Friendly

Rating:*

For those who have a wife and daughter(s) with Bikes, you will need an adapter ($40 each). It would have been nice if Yakima mentions this in any of its brochures or ads.

does not work on full suspension bikes

Learning curve

Rating:***

Great idea for getting the bikes out of the way, but not great for carrying unusual frames. If they made a Hold Up rack that swung out, that's the rack I'd get. Figure out how you're going to keep the tires from rotating on long trips (scrunchies on brake levers). Should come with a bag of bungies so you can keep the oversized frame tubes from walking out of the holders. Needed to remove the straps from the rack in order to get the inside bike on and off. Much more time consuming effort than the Hold Up. Worked well once I overcame these issues.
