ACR AquaLink View Personal Locator Beacon -

The ACR Electronics AquaLink View 406 personal locator beacon is the boater's edge in an emergency. In those frantic moments, AquaLink View provides the calm assurance that help is being summoned.

This Personal Locator Beacon should only be used in situations of grave and imminent danger, and only as a last resort when all means of self-rescue have been exhausted.

COSPAS-SARSAT is an international satellite system that provides distress alert and location data to assist Search and Rescue operations. It detects and locates the signals of beacons operating on 406 Megahertz (MHz). The position of the distress and other related information is forwarded to the appropriate Search and Rescue point of contact through the COSPAS-SARSAT mission control center network. The goal of the system is to support all organizations in the world with responsibility for SAR operations, whether at sea, in the air or on land. The COSPAS-SARSAT system provides distress alert and location data to rescue coordination centers for 406 MHz beacons activated anywhere in the world.
This personal locator beacon has been pre-programmed with the US country code. If your country of residence is outside the Unites States, you will need to have the beacon reprogrammed by a local dealer or service center, which may involve additional cost.

Please Note: This item contains a lithium battery and cannot be shipped to APO, FPO, U.S. Territories, international destinations or Hawaii, and are only available for in-store pickup in Alaska.

Made in USA.

This piece of equipment falls into a funny category. At 9.1 oz, it's heavy for gear that you may never use. If or when that time comes though, this little gadget is worth it's weight in gold. Picked this thing up when my employment for the NPS took me up to Alaska and have had it around ever since. Thankfully, I've never had to use it. The programmable messages are pretty neat as is the check in incase you decide to extend your adventure. The check in feature has also worked everywhere that I've cared to try it. I've tested other rescue devices for the Forest Service, and found that they rarely worked even on cloudless days on bald hill tops.
* Great piece of mind equipment. Whether for you or worried ones at home.
* Floats
* Should bring the calvary in no matter where you find yourself. Extremely reliable.
* Very easy to use, especially if you're in a barely conscious state. Brings in help in three easy steps. Unclip the antenna, flip it up, and press the red button.
* Not a toy. Purchase this PLB only for emergencies.
* Heavy as a lead brick until you need it. Then it's light as a feather for what it is capable of.
I would recommend this to only the most adventurous or the most prepared. In a perfect world, this thing would never be needed, but if you need it, this PLB will be there for you.

When all else fails

People say these are expensive. What is your life worth? In motorcycling we say "if you have a $10 head, wear a $10 helmet". If you read reviews of other devices like "SPOT" you will find many unhappy purchasers. There is no substitute for a device like this, except maybe a satellite phone. I have NOT used this in an emergency, however I have the subscription service that allows you to send a generic email letting friends know you are o.k. and it has worked very well. If you do a lot of remote travel alone like I do, you need this device (or the less expensive "no email" version) for the time you may really need it.

Learned the hard way...

After a nightmare of a day, falling and seriously injuring myself only to find that our cell phones were useless, had to hobble 4 miles in the dark. We got lucky, sometimes it doesn't work that way. This is a piece of equipment that most people don't think of getting till its too late. Don't fool around with the weak "Spot", the rescue pilots I know quickly convinced me that ACR was the way to go. There is no subscriptions for rescue, but one is available to send an "I'm OK" message to emails and phones with a link to show them on google maps where you are.

Great Product

I use this on my 17' inflatable when I am off shore. This provides a great piece of mind and the digital display lets you know exactly what is going on. I love that it floats and it is waterproof, because if I ever need it, the situation would be extreme. The price seems high, but you might be saving your life or the life of those on your boat. If you have enough money to afford a boat, as a responsible boat owner, you should not be without one. As it says on the box, it is your best last chance.

The Bang worth the buck

I take this everywhere. I hunt all over North America chasing bird dogs. Some times following dogs take you to places that can get dicey. With this I know help is 6 inches away. My wife likes that I can check in and out of the field even when I don't have cell service. Think of it as Onstar for the outdoorsmen. I bought mine at West Marine. The price was the best, the delivery was fast and I knew they would stand by this product if there were any issues. The salesmen helped me pick the unit best for me.

Piece of Mind

I bought the AqualInk View PLB for its portability and simplicity and it meets the requirements I have when I go float tubing. It's small enough to attach to my body without weighing me down or getting in the way. It could be a tad smaller however, but other than that, I'm highly satisfied with the product. Most importantly, it's made by ACR; the leader in PLB technology and innovation. Highly recommend the Aqualink to others!

Great item,, and it works for sure

This is a great item and it works for sure. I know this because one of my inspectors while inspecting it hit the signal button and in a very short time the police where looking for it, after homeland security called the police looking for the beacon / who was in distress.

This is no toy.....

Great product - Great bargain

Great PLB you can use on land or water. All the features of a EPIRB at about half the price. Reassuring test functions and update display so you know exactly what the unit is doing. Whether you're in the gulf stream or the brush, when you hit the button someone is coming to help.

Confident in my "best last chance"

I chose ACR due to their renowned reputation. This plb seems very easy to use and has met my initial expectations - hopefully I never have to deploy the beacon! The promotion was a plus - it never hurts to have another strobe and first aid/ survival kit on the boat...

Didn't Understand the Product

I use the product in my inflatable boat that I take out in the ocean. I had no idea when I bought the product that due to requiring a hit on two satellites and the high incidence of false alarms, rescue times could take a lot longer than I would be able to survive in the water. (6+ hours) It was my fault for not researching it better. For me, it would just be a corpse locator. If I had a bigger boat with a life boat, this would be just what I would need. There is nothing wrong with the product at all, just understand how it works and what kind of response time you can expect.
