Birchwood Casey Perma Blue Paste Gun Blue -
The longest-lasting finish, but slower to darken than the liquid blues. Easy-to-use PERMA BLUE Paste Gun Blue reacts slowly with the metal but builds up a denser                           finish that will outlast the liquid blues. Excellent for touch-up or complete reblueing. Metal must be clean and free of rust and sealed with Sheath® Rust Preventive to enhance and protect the finish. A dark blue color may require three or more applications of PERMA BLUE Paste, but each coat takes                           only 30 to 60 seconds to work. Apply with cotton swab. Complete instructions on each tube.
Perma Blue Paste reacts gradually with metal to create a deeper, denser finish than liquid blueing products. It takes longer to darken than other products – each coat takes between 30 and 60 seconds – but the results are undeniably superior. A dark blue color may require three or more applications. Ideal for touch-up work or complete reblueing. Apply with cotton swabs. Metal must be cleaned and rust-free before application, then sealed with a rust protectant. Complete instructions on tube. Weight 2 oz.

Positive Reviews:

A great small area refinishing kit...

Follow directions carefully. Throughly clean and degrease surfaces, and if the area to be reblued is larger than a square once or so, you can, with steel wool and metal polish get a passable blue job.
Since your method is different than the original, the blue may not match the original, but you can get close.

Product is good.

Not an "instant" blueing, need to go over the item to be blued several times but it gets the job done.

Negative Reviews:

Terrible, not as good as the liquid at all!

I have used the Birchwood Casey Perma Blue liquid, and I get decent results. Not as good as a hot blue job, or maybe some of the other cold blues, but It does work. I picked this up thinking it would work better, and I was WRONG. it leaves a very odd "bright" blue finish, more of a charcoal blue, and its VERY streaky. It should be called GEL, not paste, because that is what it really is. I'll get the Liquid Perma- Blue and finish my muzzle loader kit. This stuff got tossed, which is very rare for me. It might work OK for touch-ups, but I think the liquid is still better.
