K2 Rescue Shovel - The K2 Rescue shovel: You'll probably use this shovel most for digging snow pits with its hoe mode design, building tent platforms, base platform for your stove or even digging out your car. And most shovels will do an adequate job for these tasks. Unfortunately, because avalanche debris sets up so hard, a frighteningly large number of shovels can fail when called upon for their most critical function of excavating a buried friend. This is why K2 shovels are designed for durability and utility. The K2 Rescue shovel can also construct an emergency sled, build a dead man anchor, or provide a flat platform for your stove. Built the best way by welding a section of tube into the head of the shovel to for unparalleled strength and durability. Look around and see that is the best and only way to build a life saving shovel.

Sizing:

  • Collapsed Length - 41 cm (16")
  • Extended Length - 64 cm (25.25")

Webbing:

  • Blade has small holes that can be used to thread webbing or rope through in order to make a deadman's anchor or rescue sled (with skis)

Traction and Grip:

  • T-Grip handle shape gives you the most secure hold on your shovel and it's a shape that minimizes grip fatigue
  • Remove the shovel blade from the shaft and slide onto the long end of the t-grip handle to convert this shovel into a hoe for more efficient, powerful digging
  • Shaft uses a rectangular profile that's super strong and easy to grip when you're chopping or digging

Features:

  • Extendable shaft operates by unlocking the lower shaft via a small push-button that operates quickly and easily, even with gloves on
  • Rectangular blade shape tapers out at the end and the edge has a wavy shape to provide extra leverage against ice and dense debris
  • Rescue Kit slides inside the shovel shaft and includes four screws, four wing nuts, and a carry bag with assembly instructions for fashioning an evac sled by attaching your shovel to your K2 BackSide skis
  • Lightweight aluminum shaft and blade mean less weight on your back without sacrifice to strength or durability
  • Blade - 25 cm x 28 cm (9.5" x 11")

The K2 Rescue Shovel converts to a dead man anchor and a flat platform for your stove, and the included Rescue Kit has the hardware you need to fashion an emergency evac sled. K2 designed this versatile tool for backcountry skiers who rely on durability and ultimate utility from every piece of gear in their pack. You'll find other collapsible aluminum avalanche shovels on the market, but few, if any, offer this level of multi-functionality—it's truly greater than the sum of its parts.

The House

Every one of your touring partners will tell you the same thing: don't skimp on your shovel! A stout metal-bladed shovel in the hands of a trained rescuer might prove to be their best friend someday. The K2 Rescue Shovel is solidly made of 7075 Aluminum Alloy and has slots in the blade to allow its use as a Deadman Anchor. The modified "L" handle let you use the shovel as a hoe to drag snow away from a burial, sometimes the most efficient way of moving it.

K2 Rescue Shovel Reviews:

Reviews:

If you have K2 skis, then it makes sense to pair them up with this shovel. Then, no matter where you go, and what you do you will have a rescue sled with you. No brainer really. As far as shoveling and snow science are concerned, this shovel is rock solid and will cut smooth pit walls and dig out your friends with confidence and ease. A lot of thought went into this product from experienced people/guides and it shows!

the local powdercat skiing guides use these and rave about them, so i went off of their recommendation. lightweight, nice grip, and you can make a nice anchor out of it or a rescue sled.
