Osprey Kestrel 28 Reviews:

Love at first hike!

I tried on several packs before the hiking season began this year. I really liked the fit and features of the Kestrel 38 but the capacity was too large for day hiking. Tried the Talon 22 and found the lack of any sort of frame made the pack uncomfortable.

For myself, The Kestrel 28 was the best mid size option. Perfect for a mid to long day hike. I like the top loading access and the many pockets. adjustable torso length is very nice and allows you that custom fit. The external hydration access is nice but if the pack has hard items in it you still have to unload the pack to reinsert the bladder. I found the pack to be very comfortable even when fully loaded. There are lots of features making the Kestrel 28 a great buy. I only wish it was available in store so I did not have to wait to get it. REI is missing out on sales by not having it in store!

The only feature flaws I found were; First, the hip belt pockets were a little on the small side, which caused hard items in the pockets to rub. Second, the top pocket has elastic on the sides that cause the pocket to crunch when it is not loaded. Other than those two flaws I love this pack.

Great Day Pack

I bought this pack to augment an Osprey 24 Stratos that was a little cramped on some hikes. This has just the right amount of gear space, yet carries well, very comfy, and just works for me. Uses a unique placement for hydradion, placing the pocket behind the straps but outside the pack bag. But the design works. Organization is very good with lots of pockets. The included pack cover is a plus.

Great Pack For A Great Price

I needed a smaller pack for shorter hikes. I've had a Kestrel 48 for about 5 years and love it, so I took a gamble on the smaller version. It paid off. This pack fits exactly what I need for day hikes and I can wear it comfortably for hours.

Love this bag.

Just took this bag out for a couple day hikes and couldn't be happier. It fits great and is very comfortable. It's easy to organize and packs well with all different pockets.
